^ Well there's always Kangaskhan. It's not a Kangaroo, but it does carry its baby in a pouch like a Kangaroo, so that isn't that far out of an idea actually.
And I just randomly had another thought: what about a Zebra-based Pokemon?

^ How about the baby Kangaskhan be a Pokemon?
Kangaskhan are all Female, so maybe a male only Kangaroo Pokemon? Also, a pre-evolved form of Tauros and Miltank, if it's male it evolves into Tauros, if it's female it evolves into Miltank. A wolf pokemon would be cool. A Platypus too. I do agree more mammalian water pokemon would be good.

Platypus? Well I doubt that they would use that one but heck if you wanted to go a bit more unique you can actually make the males and females different type combination with the male being part poison and the female not. A nice twist that would makes things a bit more interesting. Especially for the people not knowing why they could do that at first.
And James Poochyena and Mightyena could be considered wolf Pokemon. Or at least the closest to them.
But in the end there will no doubt be new Pokemon under the category of "pre-evolution". Tauros and Miltank are a very likely pair to get one considering that the latter was originally introduced in Gen II.

^ Though Psyduck and Golduck are the closest things to the Platypus in a Pokemon game. Mightyena and Poochyena I consider Hyenas, but yeah, I know what you mean.
I know what I want now, I want a Water type Gorilla Pokemon!
