The Pez dispenser was initially shaped like a cigarette lighter, as it was initially invented as a device to help you stop smoking (ie: flick the 'lighter', but eat candy rather than smoking). However, as it became more popular the lighter image was dropped for more kid-friendly designs and voila, it is what it is today.

Hmm.... The locations in both Haruhi Suzumiya AND Lucky Star are all based on real locations, and are often considered part of an otaku, "pilgrimage." (i.e.: Hiiragi shrine is actually located in Washimiya)
