People, I have good and bad news. The good news is the karma system is back on. JB agreed to it but said and I quote "First sign of war, though, and it comes back off, got it?" So let's not start karma wars, 'cause war is bad.
Also, some of you might have noticed that we have now File Attachments. That means we can now use the forum to give images to each other and stuff like that. HOWEVER, we only have 100 MB worth of files to host here, so let's not flood the server, please.

To be honest, I'd actually prefer if we didn't use the attachment system at all. We've never had an issue about it before, so I don't see why we should start using it when it's offered to us on a silver platter. I say we should only use it when it is necessary; Photobucket, ImageShack, Tinypic and other such file uploading sites are there for a reason, so why not take advantage of that instead?

Ditto to the attachments. I've been using Photobucket here since the beginning so it's not entirely worth it to change just for that.
As for the karma it's an interesting thing as long as people don't abuse it so I'm happy to see it back. Though it kinda surprised me when I did see it.

^^ AA, what about beta reading? We can use the Attachments for that...

And emails can't do that?
Seriously Rob, I'm simply thinking rationally about this. If there's a time of crisis (what type of crisis it may be, I don't know) then I'm all for it; just because we've been given a new toy, doesn't mean we have to play with it. Our bandwidth is limited, so therefore we'll have to use it sparingly.
As you said, we definitely would not want to "flood the server", right?

I must agree with AA on this subject.

I'm actually for the attachments, because of the variety of file types that we can distribute. Imagine it, being able to distribute video in .mov format, which is one of the highest quality formats made. Because, as we know, YouTube standardizes videos in the sucky .flv format, which may be good if raw on Flash Player, but it sucks considering its probably been ripped SEVERAL times.

Yes, but what videos would be that important?
Besides, there's already tons of sites for uploading files for others to download.

Precisely what Spence's said.
And although .mov files are high in quality, they take up a bit of space (considering what we've been given already). Usually the standard three minute .mov files are around 10 MB, meaning that we'd only be able to post ten videos up on the site, which to me personally seems completely pointless.
Just my thoughts, though. /:
