It's basically someone who is a senior in a similar field to yourself. If someone is a year above you in school, they're considered senpai. In the Pokemon world, Ash started his journey before both May and Dawn and can be considered their senpai.

Meh, I was close enough. Its just that sometimes its harder to explain things that English doesn't really use. I can get a perfect idea in my head of what one is, but when I try to explain it, thats when it gets hard.

Oh no, your explanation was good. I just wanted to add to it.

Thanks for clearing that up. ;D
...And yes, that is sort of how I see Ash and May.

Well if we ever use any terms that you don't recognize just ask. After the amount of Japanese that I have gone through and James has gone through just as much (if not more) we can sometimes forget that not everyone will know exactly what we are talking about. Although it does help in understanding anime with a little bit of a Japanese background. If you ever get the chance to study it I suggest that you take it.

hmm... you're right, now that i think of it.
but then, Satoshi (the creator) had to follow his 'Battle Frontier' for Emerald, and Dawn wasn't exactly created. Excepting Tracy from Orange Island. Isn't he not in them games?

Tracey was never in the games. they made him becoz of some raciail issues with Brock.
anyway i hope May gets to travel with Ash again at some time in the anime. we don't want to many girls with Ash now do we?

May is the ultimate girl for Ash. She likes him and shows it, Ash can teach her things because he's an experienced Trainer, he cares about her, I can go on forever but the grammar would suck if I used that style all the time.
Anyway, I hate Drew, I don't know Dawn that well, and Misty is too much of a big sister, rather than a love interest.
Ash and May all the way! (yes, it's a very cliche yell but I like it =D)
