Yeah, but it also said that in the same article that they switch the main girls for "eye candy", they won't make the same girl come back twice. "He stated that they like to switch up the girls because it gives the boys some new eye candy every once in a while. He also said girls are more customizable and you can change their outfits, like when they are in their bathing suits (yes, he specifically said that). He also said Ken Sugimori designs a new girl with each generation and that gives them another excuse to switch the girl, though I reminded him that there is also a new boy with each generation too, and it wouldn't hurt to use them." The article never said anything about this, so that's why I asked to see if any of you knew what article she was referring to.

But apparently the guy did say that, coz they had a major fight about it over on Bulbaforums, the dude calling the girls eye candy. It was, supposedly, mentioned in the same interview.

I find it hard to believe that the guy would call the girls "eye candy" in an interview.

But he more or less did, or else the majority of ppl at Bulbaforums are blatant liars. He said that they like to make the girl protagonists attractive looking, no joke.

Well until we see the original write up of what they actually said we don't have any proof either way. Its just all heresay at the moment.

So there it is. I can't believe that he actually said that in an interview, I mean they obviously think it but to say it like that.
Either way, not really the best news for any of the primary Ash-shippers. This means that every season there is a good chance that the old girl will be ditched and a new one will take her place. In shipping sense that also means that a new Ash-shipping will come to be to try and vie for power against the giants. But he did specifically say that May has a far better chance of visiting than Misty would ever have.

Yeah, that's why it caused a big argument over at Bulbaforums, because some of the members took his remarks to be sexist, while others tried to argue that it's Anime, so attractive girls are to be expected.
Either way, I wasn't personally offended by it, but it did kind of bother me in the sense that he makes it almost seem like the main girls are nothing but eye candy, and that any type of emotional attatchment that the fanbase might have developed for them as characters and for their individual stories is unimportant. And yeah, I kind of felt a little sad when it came to applying the news to shipping, because it's almost like putting a lot of time and energy and hope into something, only to have it wisp away to nothing over and over again. But at least May does still have a fairly great chance of reappearing. That's good anyway.

But, you have to think, the more girls there are, the smaller the fanbase will be, and theoretically, the smaller they will start as too.

When Cascade mentioned the article that said Misty would never return as a main character, I knew that May would probably be axed as a main character.
The way I see it, that is good and bad news.
Good news:
1. May isn't completely axed; she can make more appearances because she is a coordinator.
2. Contestshippers aren't going to get any hints either because the only appearances May would make is if she is with Ash.
3. If May ends up traveling with Drew again, then we can use what interview revealed as a reason.
Bad news:
1. We will not see Ash and May together as often as we would like.
2. The rate that we receive hints will not be as high as when May traveled with Ash.

I'd believe that. And I can believe it was said, it makes a lot of sense in a non-conventional sort of way, but it is exciting to have new cast members. I agree females are more interesting from a creative standpoint, so I can sort of get what they mean by changing their appearances and offering fan service (which Pokemon does, believe it or not). Whether or not Dawn's successor will be a coordinator or not is up in the air. However, it is probable fact that if a new girl were to be introduced, she would be pretty and would offer mild fan service. It is the way of anime, and it happens in an enormous number of them.

And it's probably worth betting that the new girl will have a short skirt.

Or short shorts, or an ample chest, or is just plain adorable in some way or another. A megane girl would also be probable with the Japanese.

I think it will be a while before we find another companion travelling alongside Ash, instead of Dawn.
