Then maybe the Japanese considers it to be a form of art?
Male Europeans, during the times of Shakespeare, cross dressed as women during plays because women weren't allowed to act.

Same thing in Japan, so it was more of a gender status issue than art.

I would like to see Gary become Ash's traveling companion. Maybe if Brock leaves the group... I dunno...

Gary could become the new brock only everytime Dawn reacts out of extreme jealously.

Except I see Gary closer to Drew (except without the pretty boy attitude), so I don't think that he would act like Brock. But if it did happen the "control" would be even better because they would have true feelings for each other and not just trying to protect the girls.

Despite his extroverted nature, I think Gary is the type to keep is romantic inclinations to himself. He'd probably approach Dawn when no one else was watching. Dawn is more likely the type that would display affection publicly.

This makes a big difference between those two. Gary has certainly improved his personality ever since we first saw him. He is not as arrogant as he was; if you watch the shieldon episode. He is nicer and more modest. This, alone, makes a worldly difference between Gary and Drew. Despite his extroverted nature, I think Gary is the type to keep is romantic inclinations to himself. He'd probably approach Dawn when no one else was watching. Dawn is more likely the type that would display affection publicly. Which contributes to why Gary > Drew. Unlike Gary, Drew hands out roses to girls to convince them to sleep in bed with him. (He has the personality to do that)

Actually I was referring to the comparison of Gary to Brock at first. Guess I should have quoted wolf when I made that one. And yes I agree with you that Gary has changed for the better since the days of traveling around with his cheerleaders.

That is proof that some people grow up for the better. Also Gary would make a good guy to knock Paul around in a battle. Remember he doesn't start fresh in each new region like Ash does.

I doubt Drew will change, though. Even if he does, he will still remain shallow.

Drew change? Hell will freeze over and Bill gates will wind up in the poor house long before that will happen

Totally siding with Wolfy here. Pearlshippers believe since there was little intereaction in the Hunter J episode that Gary has no intrest. But we all know thats a lie, The episode was pretty intense and Gary really had no time to worry about hitting on Dawn. Especially since those Shieldon were in danger of being captured.
Gary is a ladiesman, but he seems to be sorting out his priorities after its pretty obvious to even him that he's taking Oaks place soon in the family buisness. That makes the big Gap between Drew and Gary. Drew's gonna be like a guy Paris Hilton or whatever since his parents are rich people in LaRousse.
This is why I enjoy reading "Project Arceus" so much.

*pictures Drew saying "That's hot" and snorts*
But more on topic, I'm sorry to say that the episode that Gary was in didn't actually have all that many hints (at least, in my opinion). In fact, the only two things that I might consider a one-sided hint would be when Dawn (A) seemed hesitant about wanting Gary to go help fight and when she (B) wished HIM good luck, and not Ash. Aside from that, there really was nothing. If anything, Dawn seems most infatuated with Pokemon poetry itself, and not who happens to write it. That said, I have nothing *against* this ship, I just don't think it has as much potential as other Dawn ships.
