To actually answer the question, maybe a stray comment from Brock and/or Max about the two would be Advanceshippy.
Or during their routines, the bonding that exists between the two because they are living together is Advanceshippy.

Why do I need to think of all the question?
Um... do you really think that the ribbon is TAT important? (Yes)

You aren't the only one that comes up with questions....
And is the ribbon that important? I think so. It's something that ties the both of them together. It might not be the most romantic of things, but it does tie them together.

Better than a cheap, easily optained rose at least!

And its more symbolic than either the roses or Misty's Lure. Sure they can represent something but no matter how you look at them they are still just a gift from one person to another.
But the ribbon isn't just a gift, its two parts of a whole that they share and won together. May even said that the ribbon reminds her of her travels with Ash (and others just to be specific for all those antagonists for the Sinnoh ribbon scene). So with the knowledge of her journeys and of who owns the other half its nearly impossible for her to forget Ash whenever she looks at it.

Yes, Matt answered it well.
Okay Fiddler, I'll ask the next question.
If Drew became very possessive of May and she was afraid to speak out against it, and Ash was convinced that they are a couple, then what would happen or who would do what to repel Drew's possessiveness? Assume that only May and Drew knows about what's going on; no other character knows what May is under.
Tricky question, I know...

Well... maybe Max would pick up on the brother/sister worry vibes?

Maybe someone would see Drew's possessiveness and tell Ash or confront Drew about it.

I'd have to agree with Fiddler for the most part. Without anyone knowing about what was going on there wouldn't be much action from anybody, let alone Ash. And if Ash had it in his mind that they were a couple, he would only see her every so often unless he was dedicated to try and win her over.
So in the end the people that are naturally close to her would be the ones to find out. People like her parents and Ash. If Norman found out Drew would be screwed, but if Max found out Ash would probably be the first that he told. Only after this point would anyone really start to take action.
Or of course it could all start if May actually tells someone about it, either way it probably wouldn't be a quick resolution.

Good answers.
To be honest, I had no idea how to answer my own question, so I posted it here hoping I would get answers.

Here's one:
What would Ash do if May was blatantly ignoring him for whatever reason?

I think it would drive Ash nuts, and he probably wouldn't leave her alone until he finally got her to tell him why she was giving him the cold shoulder in the first place.

^Fits Ash in a nutshell. He's stubborn, and this is an example of it.
