Dave smiled back at Miranda, before suddenly being knocked over, as Yanmega had flown straight into his face, chattering excitedly at her victory. Struggling to his feet, the trainer managed to remove the Ogre Darner, reaching into his bag for some potion. Spraying her down, he released the struggling Bug-type, who promptly took up her favourite perch on Dave's head.
Sighing at his Pokemon's antics, Dave walked across the makeshift battlefield, to where the Hiker had recalled his Graveler.
"That was a great battle. I really thought you had me with that Rollout at the start there." He said, outstretching his hand. "I was just lucky that Yanmega managed to get her act together and outmanuver your Graveler."
The Hiker looked at Dave for a moment, before stepping forward and taking his hand, shaking it. "Thanks, kid." he replied, "I just let myself get overconfident. Type match-up and all that. Well, at least you know that you should do well against the Oreburgh Gym Leader. He's a Rock-type specialist too. Of course, he's a lot stronger than me. Well, I'd best be off. See you kids later!"
"Thanks again for the match!" called Dave, as the Hiker went the way they'd come. He then walked over to Miranda, who was watching Croagunk and Sableye suspiciously. He kissed her on the cheek, "Apparently that's the Oreburgh exit of this cave." he said, pointing at a large opening a little way ahead, where sunlight was streaming into the cave. "Wanna go? We could be in the city in a little while...."

"Sure," Miranda replied, taking hold of Dave's hand. "We can head that way." "Come on then," she said to Croagunk, who shrugged a sleeping Sableye off of her shoulders, quickly turning to catch her. After sparing another suspicious glance at her two Pokemon, Miranda continued on walking on with her boyfriend on to the exit of the cave.

About half-an-hour later......
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well, here we are!" said Dave, as he and Miranda looked around the buildings of Oreburgh City. The male trainer then coughed harshly, "Shame about the smog though...... Meh, that's what coal mines and power plants do to the environment." The poor air quality had forced Dave to recall Yanmega to her Net Ball, despite the Bug-type's protests.
Dave looked at his girlfriend, relieved to see that her two Pokemon weren't feeling the ill effects of the air as much as his had. Looking at his Poketch, he saw that it was getting late, the sun was starting to set as well.
"Come on, let's get to the Pokemon Centre. Maybe the air will be cleaner in there." he said, taking Miranda by the hand, following the signs that read 'Pokemon Centre'.

Upon being led by the hand, Miranda followed Dave to the Pokemon Center, immediately taking a deep breath of fresher, cleaner air the moment they were inside said building. "Croagunk?" Hearing her Pokemon 'speak', the blonde-haired trainer glanced down to see her poision type look at Sableye with concern, the tone in her croak seeming to say 'are you okay?' "Sableye..." the big-eyed, purple Pokemon replied, grinning, although, as with before with Croagunk, Miranda could have sworn that the little dark type seemed to have an air of wanting to blush about it. However, Miranda was brought out of her reverie when she felt her boyfriend give a slight squeeze to her hand. Turning to look at him, she had a thought, "You must be hungry, yeah? I bet the Pokemon are, too. Should we go get a quick bite to eat in the cafeteria? We can feed the Pokemon there, too."

Dave smiled back at Miranda. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." he replied. "I know I'm hungry, and I'm sure the Pokemon will be to-"
The male trainer was suddenly cut off by a blinding flash of light blue, which was swiftly replaced by the familiar weight of Yanmega on his head, who had been summoned by the clean air and talk about food.
Sighing, Dave looked up at his Pokemon, before looking back at his girlfriend, leading her to where the cafeteria was. "Ok, let's go get some food...."

"This salad looks awesome," Miranda noted as she sat down at one of the tables in the cafeteria, sitting down across from her boyfriend, who seemed to have cheese pizza on his tray.
Glancing over to see that the Pokemon were all eating happily as well, Miranda took a bite of her salad, before adding, "It is good."
Looking up and across at her boyfriend, she asked, "So what's next on the agenda, honey?"

Taking a bite of his Pizza, Dave looked back at Miranda.
"Well, I think we should get to bed soon, and then get up early to go to the Gym. I really want that badge!" He said, enthusiasticlaly.
"Mega!" chimed in Yanmega, echoing her trainer's mood as she looked up from the floor, where she ate with Croagunk and Sableye.
Dave smiled back at his Pokemon. Yanmega would definately be useful at the Gym. The Leader would probaly never expect someone to go into a Rock-type Gym with a Bug-and-Flying type. As long as she could dodge the attacks, she'd be fine, and hit them hard.
Croagunk and Sableye were sat next to each other, across from the winged giant, taking more interest in each other than their food.
Dave turned back to his girlfriend. "Say, aren't some of your other Pokemon hungry? I don't think i've seen some of them for a while."

"You know, you're probably right...." Miranda replied, getting up from her seat as she began to take out some of her Pokeballs.
Tossing three of them into the air, the blonde trainer took a step back as their appeared before her an Eevee, a Breloom and a shiny Roselia.
"Hey guys," she said affectionately, smiling down at her Pokemon as she knelt down to pat them each in turn. "Guess you're all pretty hungry, huh? Let me go get you some food. Oh, and Eevee, I know you tend to be spunky, but, try to just stay calm while I go get the food, okay?"
"Eevee-Eev!" the small, furry Pokemon replied, waiting for her trainer to walk out of sight, before immediately scampering over to a nearby table, where someone's bag was hanging haphazardly from atop one of the lunch tables.
Hopping up, and simultaneously swiping her paw, the normal type successfully pulled down the bag, emptying out it's contents as they spilled over the floor.
"Eevee!" Miranda scoled, now hurrying back into room balancing three dishes of Pokemon food. "Stop that!"
"Eevee!" the Pokemon replied, before freezing in place as her paw stepped upon a small, vermillion-colored stone.
Nearly dropped the food dishes, Miranda audibally gasped as she hurried a few steps forward to see that it was nothing other than a thunder stone that her Pokemon had stepped upon.
"Well..." the presumed owner of the bag said as he hurried on over to his trashed bag to begin picking up his belongings. "Congratulations..."
Still wide-eyed, Miranda watched as her small, brown Pokemon transformed into a rather spiky, yellow-colored one.
"...you now have a Jolteon...." the owner of the bag announced, before lastly retrieving said thunder stone and leaving the room.

Dave and the other Pokemon watched in amazement as the glow enveloping Eevee faded, revealing a newly-evolved Jolteon. Dave fumbled in his back pocket, retreiving his Pokedex and pointed it at the spiky Pokemon. The machine whirred, a detailed image of a Jolteon appearing on the screen, and then spoke in a deep, male, computerised voice.
"Jolteon, the Lightning Pokemon. Its cells generate weak power that is amplified by its fur's static electricity to drop thunderbolts. The bristling fur is made of electrically charged needles. It excites easily and uses electricity to instantly erect all of its fur without exception."
Dave clicked the Pokedex shut, slipping it back into his pocket, before walking over to where Miranda was now playing with the Electric-Type, who was getting used to her new form. "Well, that was unexpected, eh?" he said, laughing slightly, as he bent down to pet Jolteon, who nuzzled against his hand.

"Yeah..." Manda agreed, still feeling quite astonished as she looked down at her newly evolved Pokemon. "This was unexpected, but, no matter. We should still just all eat and then head to bed and get some rest."

It was late, but there were two people who were still awake in Oreburgh City. Loud noises emanated from the Oreburgh Gym as a battle for a badge was taking place. "Tyranitar! Ice Fang!" The Gym Leader, Roark called out. James looked on as best he could as the turbulent Sandstorm raged on, it was always the case when Tyranitar battled, however it was double the strength because James' Pokemon also had the ability Sandstream. James could just see Tyranitar charge at his Hippowdon. The Armor Pokemon and the Heavyweight Pokemon collided as the Gym Leader's last Pokemon attempted to take down James' Ground type. Ice began to cover Hippowdon. 'Now! Earthquake!' James ordered. Hippowdon roared and sank into the sand of the Battle Arena. The ground began to shake violently. The Ice that coated Hippowdon's back cracked with the vibrations and shattered. The pseudo-legendary Tyranitar took the full brunt of a powerful tremor. The Heavyweight Pokemon resurfaced and rammed the Armor Pokemon with all of it's strength, causing the Gym Leader's last Pokemon to faint. The Sandstorm subsided as the battle ended. 'I lost...' Roark said. 'Hmm.' James recalled his Hippowdon, 'Adequate.' He said emotionlessly. Roark looked at the young man. He had a saddened look on his face. He quickly smiled again and presented the Coal Badge to James. 'Thank you very much.' James said as he accepted the badge. 'Good luck on the rest of your journey.' Roark said. 'Thanks, but I don't need luck.' He replied. And with that he left the Oreburgh Gym. 'I'll need to sleep before I head of to Eterna City.' James said to himself. He looked at the nearby Pokemon Center, 'Perfect.' He grinned.

Dave finished his Pizza, smiling as he did so. "Good pizza. I think I detected......... five different kinds of cheese!" He said, enthusiastically. If there was anything that came close to his love of battling and his girlfriend, then it would be food. "Let's get going then, I want a nice long rest before the battle tomorrow."
He waited for Miranda to recall the rest of her Pokemon, before taking her by the arm, Yanmega fluttering back to his head, and starting to walk out of the cafeteria, towards the lobby.

John was walking back to Oreburgh, figuring that with some major training, he was ready for anything. 'Now, the problem is finding that cheeky son of a -' He paused in thought as he saw James, heading towards what he assumed to be the Pokemon Center. "Well, then, I'm guessing I'll wait for tomorrow. As for those two..." John said as he began walking to the Pokemon Center.

James entered the Pokemon Center. It was late, but there were still people moving about the halls. He gave three of his six pokeballs to the Nurse Joy and decided to look around whilst he waited. James recognized one of the people in the center, who had just entered the lobby from the cafeteria. 'Ah!' Dave said in disbelief. 'You again!?' James said in disgust. 'What are you doing here?' Dave demanded. 'Not like it's any of your business, but I just cleaned out the Oreburg Gym and got the Coal Badge.' James said condescendingly, 'Honestly, I thought that Gym Leader would be harder. Guess I was wrong to get my hopes up. Guess I'll just have to see how strong the next Gym Leader is in Eterna City.' Nurse Joy approached Dave and James. She handed the three Pokeballs back to James. 'Here you are James, your Hippowdon, Vaporeon and Infernape are fighting fit. Although your Hippowdon needed extra attention due to those Ice injuries. It should be fine though, but I recommend you let it rest.' 'Thanks.' James said bluntly. Nurse Joy left and James looked at the Pokeball that contained his Hippowdon. 'I guess it needs even more exposure to ice attacks.' He said, 'That Tyranitar was nothing, I will not have average Pokemon on my team.'

Dave seethed inwardly. He hadn't been expecting to see the trainer who had belittled him again, so soon. To learn James had reached and beaten the gym before him was one thing, but seeing him not even be thankful to the Pokemon who had helped him in his victory was another, much more serious issue.
"But, Hippowdon are weak to Ice-type attacks. Not so much physical moves, like Ice Fang and Ice Punch, but you can't expect it to take too much, even then." He explained, trying to reason as to why James should respect his Pokemon. "I wouldn't feel any resentment to my Sceptile for being injured from a Fire attack, or Feraligatr or Relicanth feeling fatigued after taking a Grass-type attack."
Yanmega, sensing her trainers frustration, buzzed her wings, hissing angrily at James.
"If you come and watch my match at the Oreburgh Gym, I'll show you that a Pokemon is defined by more than its weaknesses!" said Dave, determined to prove that Pokemon were to be respected.
