James sneered at Dave, 'What I do with my Pokemon is none of your business! You don't think I know that Hippowdon are weak against Ice? All the more reason to expose it to such attacks! It's all about strength. I used superior types to face his Rock Pokemon, to be weakened by them is an insult. My Pokemon will throw back super effective attacks in their face and show them what real power is!' James looked at the Yanmega that hissed at him, 'I certainly hope you're not stupid enough to use that Yanmega against his Rock types. Otherwise the little bug will go squish.' He taunted. Dave had offered James an opportunity to see him face Roark. Even though he found Dave to be a pain, he agreed. 'Whatever. It just better not be a waste of my time. I do have seven more badges to get, and they sound like they're gonna be a breeze!'

Dave looked up at Yanmega, who continued hissing at James, though not as loudly as before. "Oh, it won't be a waste of time. I'll show you a battle like no other! My Pokemon may not have had to endure their weaknesses, but that doesn't mean that they can't counter them!" Dave smirked, confident in his Pokemon's abilities.
"Just because Rock attacks hurt Yanmega, that doesn't mean anything if they can't hit her. She has ways of dealing with Rock-Type Pokemon, you'll see."

'Say that after you face the Gym Leader and not before.' James said, 'He's got a few Pokemon that could catch yours.' James walked past Dave, with his back still turned to him he decided to say one last thing, 'Think of it as some 'help' since you look like you need it.' James walked upstairs to sleep for the night.

"Oh yeah?! Well, I'll show you that I don't need your help!" Dave shouted after James as he walked up the stairs. The aggravated trainer turned back to Manda, clearly seething at his rival's comments. "Can you beleive that guy? Judging Pokemon purely based on their weaknesses... it makes me sick..."

"Yeah," Manda replied, a bit of a frown on her face as she idly patted her Croagunk atop it's head with one hand, her opposite shoulder busy occupying a jovial-as-ever Sableye. "It's very sick. I can barely stomach the thought myself."

Dave breathed heavily, still shaking with anger at how someone could treat their Pokemon like that, before calming down, a slight smirk coming to his face. "Well, I'll just have to show him what having trust in a Pokemon's ability to counter its weaknesses looks like!" he said, enthuiastically.
Yanmega chirped in agreement at this. Dave smiled, reaching up to rub her smooth exoskeleton, elicting a coo from the large Bug. "We've faced Rock-types before, and won. This time won't be any different!"

"That's right! I know you can do it!"
Standing up, pumping one fist enthusiastically into the air as she did so, Manda smiled, before adding, "Rock types smrock types!"
However, her enthusiasm was cut a bit short when Yanmega buzzed angrily at her suddenly, a result of her nearing too close to the insect's beloved trainer.

Dave patted Yanmega again, calming the Ogre Darner down. "Come on Yanmega, leave her alone. You don't have to treat everyone like a threat." He reassured her, smiling, before turning back to Manda.
"Well, if I'm gonna be taking on the Gym Leader tomorrow, then I'd best get a good night's sleep. Shall we?" He asked his girlfriend, gesturing to the stairs that lead to the bedroooms for travelling trainers.

James had opened his Pokedex and scrolled through the list of his available Pokemon. He the touched the bottom screen a few times to upload information regarding his next challenge. 'Gardenia...' He said quietly, '...Grass types eh?' He then read the information about her. He went through his list of Pokemon. He had a few that were fairly effective against Grass Pokemon. 'Infernape will be a good choice early on, then I guess I'll switch to... ' He paused. He had let his Vaporeon out to rest on the floor, she got up and purred. 'What is it? What?' James asked. She made some clicks, chirps and barks. 'I guess so, if you really want to. Don't screw it up though, I got enough training to do with Hippowdon tomorrow. Don't make me waste my time with you as well.' Vaporeon barked in affirmation of her master's gruff orders. 'One exposure to a multitude of Frenzy Plant attacks whilst seeded should've been enough for you anyway.' James said, ' Now I need to pick other Pokemon and get them sent over from home.' He scrolled through his list of his available Pokemon once more and smiled, 'Of course... perfect!' He switched off his Pokedex and went to sleep. Vaporeon did the same.

"This is a good breakfast we've got here," Manda said the following morning, as she ate some of the grapefruit before her, while sneaking bits of toast to Crogaunk and Sableye.
Looking across the table at Dave, who had barely touched his own meal of eggs, sausage and beans, she asked him, a slight hint of concern in her voice,
"So, how are you feeling today? Nervous? Excited?"

Dave looked blankly at his plate, before the sound of his girlfriends voice snapped him out of it.
"Huh? Oh! You bet I'm excited, baby! This'll be the first gym I've challenged since we were back in Hoenn!" He said, perking up instantly. "I'll show the Gym leader what me, and my Pokemon, are made of!"
While he was outwardly enthusiastic, inside Dave was anxious about that battle. Not only did he want to do well, but he also wanted to prove Manda how good of a trainer he'd become. And, of course, extra pressure came from the trainer he'd recently crossed paths with again. He'd have to show James what working with Pokemon as friends could accomplish....
Shaking it off, the brown-haird trainer smiled back Manda. "Best get my strength up, eh? No idea how many Pokemon I can use in the gym...." He said, before starting to dig into his fry-up.

'It's three on three...' a voice said. Dave and Miranda turned to see who it was. It was James and his Vaporeon. James had that same intimidating glare in his eyes, however they appeared to say something to Dave, as if to say, 'Show me'. He had his Pokedex in hand, it was a model unique to the Tohoku Region, where he was from. Tohoku was located directly south of Sinnoh and directly north of Kanto. James scanned the Sableye and Croagunk at the table, the Pokedex gave him data, after reading the data and exhaling dismissively he put the Pokedex away.

Dave managed to finish the rest of his breakfast, not noticing the Pokedex in the other trainers hand, before standing up.
"Three on three, huh? Well then.... the choice is: Do I chose types strong against Rock to make it easy, or types weak to Rock for suprise factor, and give them a bit more of a workout..." The bespectacled trainer pondered. Part of his decision was made for him, however, with the sound of an opening Pokeball, a flash of blue light, and the sudden obscurity of his vision as Yanmega materialised atop his head.
Dave chuckled slightly. "So, guess that means you wanna battle in the gym, huh?" He asked, feeling the great insect nod in agreement. "Ok then, that's one team member decided. I'll choose the others when I get to the Gym, and see what I'm up against..."
Dave then turned to Manda, who had finished her breakfast by now. "Ready to go, sweetie?" He asked her.

James remembered Roark's Aerodactyl and Tyranitar before looking at Dave's Yanmega. He shook his head dismissively and pocketed his Pokedex. 'Let's go. I don't want to waste too much time if I'm going to head to Eterna City.' James and his Vaporeon walked on ahead to the Oreburgh Gym, he was not keen on walking with Dave and Miranda. James' Vaporeon barked and chirped at James as they walked. 'I don't care if he does or doesn't. He won't be able to reach me, ever.' James replied.

"Yep, I'm ready to, sweetie," Manda replied, standing up and linking her arms with Dave's, Croagunk and Sabeleye, holding hands for some bizarre reason, following on after them.
