That seems to be the better idea. Instead of constantly switching Pokemon, he could just use his old ones.

^ Though they are stronger, that has the potential to be boring too. I like it when he catches new Pokemon.
I would however like to see Bulbasaur, Totodile and Cyndaquil evolve.

That would be a nice sight.
But even when he catches a new Pokemon, he could train some of his old ones for a bit instead of just dumping them at his house when he goes to a new region.
