From BulbaNews: "Nintendo has confirmed a 2009 release for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, DS remakes of the principal Generation II Pokémon games, Gold and Silver, which were originally released for the Game Boy Color in 1999 in Japan. Speculated by fans to be in development since the release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the remakes will take gamers back to the Johto region, found west of Kanto — this time as Generation IV games. The games will most likely be able to link to Diamond, Pearl and Platinum as shown by game data. HeartGold and SoulSilver will be released in Japan this fall, possibly on or near Nov. 21, the 10th anniversary of the original release of their namesakes. International releases will likely come in mid-2010. " Obviously, this is huge news and of course our speculation has come true. I thought we'd make this official and discuss the game and its new features here as they unfold.

Sorry James, you got beat. Manda posted this earlier: Yahoo! Japan NewsPokemon.Co.JpI don't know Japanese, and I found these on a thread at Bulbagarden forums, but I see honestly no reason to think this is a joke/hoax/prank. Yahoo news, eh, BUT, the official Pokemon site? I think we're getting our remakes, folks. Also.

Either way, it still wins hard. I think I'll be looking forward to this, too.

Rather than post it in the thread that was based on speculation, it deserved it's own thread, wouldn't you say?

You say this but you'll buy it and you know it.
Something interesting, most of which is obvious.
Heart Gold's emblem is Ho-Oh with it's wings spread into the shape of a Heart.
Soul Silver's emblem is Lugia, twisted into the shape of a Magatama (勾玉). For those that don't know what a Magatama is, it's a comma shaped bead usually carved from Jade. The shape is meant to represent the human spirit (Hitodama - 人魂). The two kanji that are at the base of each logo mean Gold (Kin) and Silver (Gin) respectively.

^ thanks for explaining about Lugia's shape. I was wondering what exactly they shape had to do with a 'soul', considering Ho-Oh's was obviously a heart shape.

Well that explains a few things. And thanks for the definitions on the Lugia shape James. Although to me since I haven't seen that one before I am currently thinking towards 人(ひと) or even 入る (はえる).
No real surprise that this would be the next ones out. I might be tempted to get the Japanese version to test myself. Thanks for the notification to both Miranda and James.

Some gaming footage from HG/SS.
Is it possible that your partner pokemon can now walk around outside it's Pokeball all the time? I hope you'll be able to do this with most Pokemon, not just starters and cute Pokemon (like Amity Square).

^ I wish the same thing too.
But other than that, what else stands out in these games?

^ That remains to be seen, but I reckon we will battle Red. That video's not new (but still, thanks), and I called that months ago. What's your point? Let's discuss things as they develop not worry about who gets credit for what. Excuse the size, but here's a scan from Coro-Coro as found on Bulbapedia. What do people think about the girl character redesign? I gotta try and find this magazine. I don't think they sell it at 7Eleven.
