Sounds like an awesome idea to have Pokemon similar to World of Warcraft or some other MMORPG.
They just need to make the game more mature, and it will be great.
Thoughts on this?

My friend and I had an idea for the remakes of Gold and Silver to be like that. A full 3D MMORPG, on the Wii. I can't remember the specifics, as we came up with the idea over a year ago >.>

Personally, I think that it'd be a terrible idea to have the remakes be an MMORPG, or frankly, any version at all, be it Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Pearl, whatever else. Because that's not what the point of the game is. It's about personal accomplishments in training and going around and winning badges (and/or winning contests now too), it's not about training to level up in a WoW type setting.
But, if they made a new game (thinks of Pokemon Stadium from the N64) that was 3D, and navigational in a 3D setting where you could walk around from different areas, catching/training Pokemon to battle each other with via the capabilities of most MMORPG's, then that could be cool, sure. And maybe even scatter gyms throughout the place to battle at as well, and sure, you'd need Marts for items and Centers to heal, but don't make the game be like a normal Pokemon game, because trying to morph the concepts of each individuals quest into a game like that seems kinda ridiculous.
I don't know, I just keep imagining it being like trying to complete Pearl, and instead of whatever trainers are already there, it's just packed, with whoever happened to be online and in that part of the 'world' at the moment, filling up the screen and who knows how many would pester you for a battle when all you really care about is going to get to the next gym because you finally got your Pokemon all leveled up to beat the leader. Doesn't sound that appealing. At all.
But again, if it was an entirely new set up, new form of game (like there were the Pinball games/Puzzle games, and the Stadium/Colleseum games, and XD, and Ranger and Mystery Dungeon) that focuses on the MMORPG stuff of leveling up, then sure, go for it.

I think it'd be stupid. I refuse to pay subscription for a game, no matter how good it is.

Cascade - Like you said before, there can be a mix of both single-player and multi-player. It doesn't have to be absolutely focused on multi-player.
James - I don't like subscription-based games either; maybe WoW was a bad example. What I mean is that multi-player should be expanded upon - maybe have a town or two entirely devoted to multiplayer (actual people roaming around the place) and the rest of the towns (or cities) devoted to single-player (like the traditional games); sort of like those first-person-shooters that have great multiplayer at no cost.
