I got the idea from serebii which is a good question for me. so i decided i might as well share it with you guys.
Anyway i will post on what i said on serebii.
How do i say this. *thinks hard*
At Kanto, we started off with a hot head, a want-to-be pokemon master who still hasn't got near that dream and a wannabe pokemon breeder. in Johto it was pretty much the same except they just added a rival/friend Richie. In Hoenn they dumped Misty back into her little gym and to be never seen until futher notice again and put in May and gave her the rivals and forgot about poor little Ash's rivals. in Sinnoh they said bye bye to May and hello miss 'i like your skirt' Dawn who is just like May and her little group of rivals and gave Ash a new rival with more 'rival personailty' who is now called Paul.
To sum the paragraph above. thoughout Kanto to Johto was the same old dull group. Hoenn to Sinnoh pretty much like Hoeen except the writers gave a new "friend" for Ash.
Most of my friends perfer Kanto-Johto. me? i perfer Hoenn-Sinnoh. Hoenn did lose most of its old pokemon fans since the voices changed halfway though BF and DP rose with a click of the finger. i don't know how this happen. either it was the game itself, the new young pokemon fans growing or that they revived the old touch of pokemon once again.
Okay nearly done. pokemon's touch was big in Kanto, slightly lost in Johto (eg. GS ball) Hoenn just lost it and nearly died. (tell that to the shippers) and DP gained it and might be better then Kanto itself.
So in other words pokemon is like a yo-yo.its gains it touch and loses it and gains it again and you know what i mean.
So, what are your opinions?

Meh, I loved Kanto. Johto had it's moments. Hoen was a good change of pace. And Sinnoh's boring as hell imo.
So is it losing it's touch? Yeah, I think it is. But it's Pokemon, and it seems like it is like a rollercoaster, the stock market, or even a yo-yo like Midnight said. Basically, if Sinnoh is the new Kanto, then gen V will be the new Johto. -kills fillers-

I'd like to think it's cause we're growing out of it. It's like DBZ. When you're ten you think it's the greatest thing in the world. Then you get older, begin to understand more 'meaty' shows and all of a sudden it's not the greatest thing in the world anymore.
If anything Hoenn was when the show began to rebiuld. No one gave a toss about Johto. May was the figure that gave a new lifeline to an otherwise dead show. Now on D/P things are just getting all that much stronger.
So No. If anything the show's just getting stronger. IT's just that we're not the same people we were 6 years ago.

You guys are in the wrong countries. Pokemon is still massively popular in Japan. I agree and say that it's gotten better in a lot of respects. There appears to be a lot more character development and a bit more plot than just going around getting badges. Sinnoh has not been disappointing at all. In fact, I'm rather enjoying it more than the Kanto series.
I would order Pokemon this way from best to worst.
1. Sinnoh (Interesting character dynamics, a decent team, good subplot and better battles). 2. Hoenn & Battle Frontier (A nice change of pace with a refreshing new cast.) 3. Kanto & Orange Isles (Was good, then jammed with filler, then rushed in the end). 4. Johto (Crammed with filler, utterly pathetic).
Dawn has had a lot of character development in the series, more than both May and Misty had ever had. Whilst she brings nothing new to the table, she has had some interesting moments during her time in the series. Ash's rivalry with Paul is better than any other rivalry he's had in the entire series, from their differing personalities to their choices of Pokemon to their methods and beliefs. There are a lot of Pokemon in the cast with a developed personality. It is safe to say all six of Ash's current Pokemon have some sort of unique personality trait that has made them interesting Pokemon. Monferno is absolutely fantastic. We know it's origin, it's fears, it's personality and everything. Pikachu has developed overtime and is not as overexposed as it was in Johto and Kanto. Grotle has also had an interesting development from being a fast Pokemon to a slow and steady Pokemon adjusting to it's newfound size. Unlike Pidgeot and Noctowl, Staraptor has developed into a major battler and has a good personality to match. It has been involved in humor and as more than just a searcher. I like it better than Ash's Swellow, though Swellow is a fantastic Pokemon in itself. Gligar was seen as a useless catch when it was fist caught, but it had a quirky and interesting personality and evolved into a fan favorite. It is both strong and provides comic relief, which is great in my mind. Lastly Buizel is a bit similar to Ash's Sceptile, but had the best Gym Battle ever in the history of Pokemon when it battled Maylene's Lucario. Absolutely brilliant. Lastly the Team Galactic subplot is one of the best stories so far. It hasn't been rushed like the Groudon/Kyogre/Aqua/Magma storyline and it's certainly brought an interesting group of characters in the series, Pokemon Hunter J, Cyrus and Cynthia. The series has new ideas that haven't been done before. A trade that actually stuck (unlike Ash's Butterfree/Raticate trade). He even got a Pokemon his rival used to own, which has never been done. And some unpredictable teammates (Dawn's Mamoswine). A darker rival who is not a rip-off of Ash. Face it, Richie was the worst rival Ash has ever had. Blatant and boring rip-off. Gary was good, but was not developed enough to be considered interesting. Though the Johto battle between the two of them at Silver Conference was great. And there was NO recurring rival for Ash during his Hoenn trip. Paul is a great and interesting character.
For people to say Sinnoh is just Hoenn with a new friend, is a very shallow and poorly thought out statement. Though it's not without it's downsides, I think it's great.
I don't think Pokemon has fallen flat at all, in fact, I would argue that it has only gotten better.

Yeah. Kanto was one of the best ones. Sinnoh just dosn't have that edge that Kanto had.

^James after reading your point
Maybe this is why I've been leaning to becoming (if i cared really for pokemon outside of mapping now) more of a pearlshipper than I am an advance. Oh well, back to Halo.

I still support the idea of Advanceshipping. I just don't actively pursue it as much as I used to.

Okay before we get off topic Johto sucked major (Long strand of cursing not suitable for children like Xaotl lol jk.)
Kanto was when Jesse James and Meowth seemed cool and had semi-believeable attempts (where the heck do they get this money now? God?) at capturing pokemon and pikachu. Battle frontier annoyed me because it seemed like they shoved a squeaky toy down may's throat and For ash he dropped his balls so quick they hurt while going down.
Sinnoh although a good series i have to say just seems to repeat. You think by now they would stop relying on team rocket so much for plot devices and go onto more in depth season long plots.
Yet still Satoshi Tajiri still thinks making idiot 6 year olds watch Team Rocket blast off into the sky is amuzing.
Also considering the fact that most of the time they run into a pokemon having problems, they work through the episode to help. Team rocket shows up, Ash's bird pokemon pops the balloon and when they're smart enough to reinforce it the pokemon they're helping takes out team rocket by conquering what they've been trying to work on and then Ash, Brock, and the token girl/eye candy go walking off in the poor animation of a dirt path made in the gap of trees.
>To be continued
^ as it would show in the episode
Now if I was writing the series I would have everything seem fine at first. For a little while, your also get a couple glimpses what the badguys are up to. There would be a sense of mystery trhoughout the season to then learn that Team Whatever is up to a way to Seize power by the mistreatment of pokemon in some way. Like a movie but with a lot more plot twists. People they thought were their friends but instead were working for the enemy. Destruction of whole towns, so on so forth. Like what most good fanfics do.

Being that the show is around 12 years Old I'd have to say yes. Hoenn kinda gained Pokemon a bit of strength but so far I rarely watch diamond and Pearl. It could be that after 12 years I just think Pokemon got stale. But part of me also thinks that D&P is just a rehash of Hoenn with a new rival. Honestly I think hoenn was the best IMO but Battle frontier wasted all the progress it made in helping the show gain popularity. The rest of the shows once considerable strength and Fanbase has been depleteing because D&P doesn't have the magic the shows prior story arcs had.
