Oh perfect opportunity to post a couple bi-products of my advanceshipping pic discovery yesterday. The first one is just funny and the second one is actually a part of a set of season pics, where each season represents one of Dawn's shipping (penguin, pearl, appeal, ikari). I'm not sure exactly what this says except that one of the Kanji means woman. And a quick discussion of the pairing, its a nice dream for a lot of people but unless Paul changes his attitude there will be no shipping between him or any character. But when he's OOC in fics people do make them into a nice couple.

Yeah, the only Paul will be shipped is if he acts all OOCish or a miracle conversion occurs. Still, I don't get why its so popular!!! Why is that so?!!!

Not sure, I guess because they were both introduced as the new characters from D&P.

Remember this ship started early on in the Diamond Pearl series. Back then we did not know just how cruel Paul's personality was. His lack of sympathy for Chimchar demonstrated how cold and uncaring Paul could be. I think some people, mainly girls, like the idea of changing a rough, harsh male into a softie. I seriously doubt Paul will change, he's just too perfect a rival for Ash right now in the story. I hope he stays a jerk for a long time to come.
Brock: You see Ash, Paul is like an onion. Ash: He stinks? Brock: ...No. Ash: He makes you cry? Brock: NO! Ash: He goes great on a hamburger? Brock: Aughhh! He has layers! Paul has layers! Onions have layers! Man! No wonder I lost the Advanceshipping Pool! Ash: What are you talking about? Brock: Nevermind.

Great quote elite4. But you do have a good point, it probably is mostly girls wanting to tame the so called handsome tough guy.

I don't seeing this happen. for several reasons. He is too cruel and she seemed to show some interest in Gary.

Actually, I think I know why ikarishipping is so popular. I put a lot of thought into it. It is simple, it is likely that the contestshippers started this. They support the pairing of May and Drew, which is a pairing between a main character and a rival. When Diamond and Pearl started, the contestshippers took that concept and applied it to Dawn and Paul. They figured that since May and Drew were meant to be couples, the same would go for Dawn and Paul; a pairing between a main character and a rival.

Its a good possibility. We may never know in the end.

...Or pokeshippers created ikarishippers to find someway to dump Dawn with another person; the same way they did with May.
They dumped May with Drew to create contestshipping, and they dumped Dawn with the first rival she saw, Paul, to create ikarishipping.

Dawn: Hi Ash! I'm Dawn and I'll be the token girl in your group this season. Ash: Hey Dawn, nice to meet you. Pokeshippers: Oh noes! Another girl!!! (enter Paul) Paul: 'Sup. Pokeshippers: OMG Perfect! This guy is gonna hook up with Dawn, Misty is safe again! Paul: WTF?!

Yes, this is a neutral ship. There's hostile, neutral and support ships. AAMayL has a few support ships, but also two main hostile ones in my opinion. Unfortunately our two main hostiles are also two of the largest, Poke and Contest, which also happen to support each other. I dont see them as threatening though, just a pain in the butt.

James, your first quote reminds me of the first Shrek movie, I wonder why, . I never said it out loud before, but here goes. I am an Ikarishipper. However, thing is, I never was able to fit in two ships into one story(e.g.: The second most prominent ship in my fics, after Advance, is Ikari, yet their hints there are "vairy dull"). One thing that turned me in this direction was something out of Bulbapedia saying that Paul seems interested in Dawn. I doubt that's from official sources, but still it got me hooked. \ EDIT: Oh, man, this is the second time I am post #13 in this board! Holy Crap!

^ Well yes, it's based off of the Shrek one. I thought it would be fun! ;D
I personally prefer Cavaliershipping to Ikarishipping, if Paul's attitude changes or something, I might warm to it a little more though. Who doesn't like shippings between two dynamic opposites?
