The problem with Contestshipping becoming so popular is because nearly all Contestshippers are Pokeshippers! Since Pokeshipping was unrivaled for so long, then along comes an awesome character like May who poses a genuine threat to their dreams of AshxMisty, causing May a bit unpopular. As AG progressed however, May gained a large fanbase. Then they bring in Drew... ugh... And Pokeshippers become Contestshippers because now they can dump May off onto Drew and AshxMisty can reign supreme again in their minds. I am not concerned however because if you really look at it, May and Ash have a very strong history together and a lot of similarities. And I'll bet everyone's favourite movie is 'Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea' the Ultimate Advanceshipping Movie. Ash and Misty? Pfft, when was the last time they travelled together? Johto? Who remembers that? And as for Drew and May? They're rivals. Nothing could break the bond Ash and May share, the terracotta ribbon is such an important symbol in Ash and May's relationship. If they didn't give Advanceshipping a little support, they wouldn't have even bothered to put it in there. If you want to spread the message of Advanceshipping, I'm not too sure, but places like FF.net, Deviantart and Youtube are good places to start.

Excellent point, I too have visited that thought.
The pokeshippers rely on contestshipping as a lifeline; without it, they would have faded away a while ago.

^^Wow, man. You are a GENIUS!!! I haven't realized it until now, but PokeShipping and ContestShipping are symbiotic shippings (LOL at the play on the quote from LATMOM). Without Contest, PokeShipping would be done, and without PokeShipping, AdvanceShipping is strong enough to take down Contest. But, there are some Advance turned into ContestShippers. I mean, look at CyberCubed/Scott85.

Hopefully, the tables will turn when May comes back without Drew.
Scott85/CyberCubed is not 100% contestshipper though, right? He's a multishipper, I might be wrong about it though.

Also keep in mind that a large number of Pokeshippers are not really into Pokemon shippings or anything of the sort, however they are simply nostalgics that don't know who May is and say "Hey, who dis beeyotch all up ni Misty's grill?" Hopefully, the tables will turn when May comes back without Drew. Scott85/CyberCubed is not 100% contestshipper though, right? He's a multishipper, I might be wrong about it though. When you write an NC-17 Advanceshipping fanfic you can never truly convert. He just laid back a bit.

There are people who will like a ship becaus4e they genuinely like it, contestshippers/Advanceshippers/Bouldershippers. But their relationship with each other is sorta like our bond with Orangeshipping. We think it's allright, but at the end of the day if we had to choose beetween the two, the choice is obvious. p.s. can some of you remember the last Hoenn contest, where that girl dreamed splitting a contestribbon in two with her boyfreind? a bit of forshadowing maybe? He still likes Advanceshipping abit , he just likes Contest alot more. and well there's nothing wrong with that, people like the ship they want, we don't need one other person to make our ship into a great ship, we already have some kewl shippers.

I remember that as well; it was when the girl was mad at May for being near her "boyfriend".
I forgot the episode name though.

anywayz, any concerns about the welfare of Advanceshipping?
Just remember that All that is needed is the fans, and it will never die, and I for one would stay with this ship.

Same here, and we will almost definitly stay a prominent shipping even if couples become truly cannon and ours isn;t one of them.
Really the only problem right now is that the growth of Advanceshippers has slowed due to the Advanced series being over and D&P is up. So any new watchers of Pokemon would more than likely become Pearlshippers.

um, excuse me? Where did you get this from? >> Pokeshippers haven't faded because they love their ship not because they rely on contestshipping as a 'lifeline' And a lot of them don't even consider May as a threat to their ship. And well, why should they? They have a lot of hints in their own right. And don't you support ships that are the "lifeline" to Advanceshipping? Any Dawn ships anyone? Hmm? Perhaps Penguin shipping to get Dawn out of the way for May and Ash? This idea is ridiculous, the writers don't listen to their viewers if they did, Misty would have come back to the main cast a long time ago

Dawn ships? I think Pearlshipping is awesome. *shrugs*
Anyway, sorry to say, but a lot of Pokeshippers did cling to Contestshipping as a way to keep May away from Ash. Not all Pokeshippers did, but it's still pretty much true for some of them. And that's not to say it's putting them down for it, but still, it isn't an absolutely false and unfounded accusation.

But not all of them, I know a lot of Pokeshippers who like Contestshipping because they simply like it, I think it has to do more with n00bs who do that, in other words, the smaller part of the fanbase, it isn't fair to say that they all cling on to contestshipping for said reason. It makes sense after all, for them to like contestshipping since both ships are very similar. Love/hate

And then, it isn't fair for you to say that we support "Lifelines". I personally despise PenguinShipping
