His elite roster.... yeah, you're right. But what is Ash's elite roster? Right now, I'm thinking Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile, Noctowl, Squirtle, and... I guess Snorlax.

I think Buizel would soon replace Squirtle as Ash's top water type, even though he's still fairly new to Ash's team and the series in general. So I would say Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile, Swellow, Buizel and Snorlax. And if not Buizel I'd put Donphan. Even still Paul said that Torterra is his strongest and I'd bet that Charizard is stronger still. He would probably be able to single handedly take out most of Paul's team. So even if Paul was able to take it out, the damage would have already been done. And if Ash was using his elite roster then the chance of Paul coming back would be slim. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Paul's Torterra is more than likely going to be portrayed as a major tank, unmovable and with some serious firepower. Even if Ash used his best, I think Paul will be Ash's toughest challenge yet. It is hard to really say that though because we don't know what his full roster is. We know Paul has the following: Torterra, Electabuzz, Weavile, Honchkrow, Ursaring, Gliscor and Magmar. If his Electabuzz and Magmar reach their final stages, Paul will be a serious powerhouse. And this is just from his known roster. No matter who Ash uses, a battle against Paul is going to be hard.

I would have to agree that would be the line up, except that last place of Buizel would be more of a wild card more than anything. But the other five are definitly his top pokemon, its just that sixth one that will elude for a while. Who knows, maybe Turtwig or Chimchar might turn up to be eligible for the spot by the end of Sinnoh. Not to mention that (if you go by game rules) Buizel and Chimchar will have a high growth potential because Ash wasn't their original trainer. It happened with Charizard so it might happen again. Still wish he would have gotten something better than Gligar for his last Sinnoh pokemon though. Oh ya, he has a more powerful team than Gary or Richie thats for sure. And with his training regime they aren't going to be pushovers. But Ash's pokemon aren't either. Two of them have even defeated legendary pokemon, I doubt any of Paul's can boast that one. And James, you might want to watch the double posting. The mods don't like it too much.

He might send a Pokemon to Professor Oak's. Oh ya, he has a more powerful team than Gary or Richie thats for sure. And with his training regime they aren't going to be pushovers. But Ash's pokemon aren't either. Two of them have even defeated legendary pokemon, I doubt any of Paul's can boast that one. His current Sinnoh team I don't think it would fare well against Paul's current team. If Turtwig, Chimchar, Buizel and Staravia evolved, then definitely. Richie had a potentially powerful team, if it ever fully evolved, it would have a Raichu, Charizard, Swellow and Tyranitar. But then again, Drew had a Flygon and that wasn't that crash hot... But he's not a rival of Ash's (well not in that respect ) And James, you might want to watch the double posting. The mods don't like it too much. Yeah, sorry about that. Fixed it.

True but if you look at Ash's track record, after he's gotten 6 pokemon on his team only twice has he capured another one. (Tauros and Krabby) Thats about all we can hope for right now though.

^ Don't forget he had Primeape and Muk as well.
There was a lot of chopping and changing of his team in the Johto saga. He added to his team (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile and Noctowl) and had three departures (Charizard, Squirtle and Bulbasaur), and moved Heracross to Oaks lab and obtained Phanpy. The only constant throughout was Pikachu.

Very true, but when he caught Primeape he didn't have Butterfree so it still went to six. And as for Muk, all I remember is that as soon as Ash caught him he sent him to Prof. Oak. I don't know if he had six or not at that point, but it didn't teleport instantly.
And I forgot about Phanphy's egg. So you're right again. It could still happen.

We should be posting Youtube videos here, which I am doing now, but to the matter of "Charizard pawns all", here's a perfect video for it. Clips are first series only, though: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhX4dUGOPSoThis thread is for posting awesome Youtube videos. Quoted just so I won't get into trouble. This awesome video refers to the current "song inspiration" that I have to my current project. Awesome in the fact that the video plays out like general action anime OPs; first the line-up of main characters, then the line-up of villains, and then the chorus shows the whole "story" in non-spoiler summary: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xXGk-zwDUo You can ignore 1:49 onwards though, that's another story, literally.

Its easy to get off topic. And that was a nice video, still think that his battle with Magmar was his best. Probably because I still somewhat remember how excited I was when it first came on TV.

That is the series first I was talking about: the first time a Legendary was defeated in a one-on-one battle, signifying Charizard's potential. But, still, let's not forget about a classic "rival's starter is stronger against protagonist's starter" confrontation. They really knew what they were doing making Charizard Ash's only fully-evolved starter at the time. PS: Ironically, in the battle after the Ash vs. Gary one, Charizard was bested by a Pokemon he's supposed to have an advantage against, .

Personally I'd say Ash's elite lineup would be something like Pikachu Charizard Buizel Pidgeot Sceptile Snorlax
