This is Lucas' new outfit. The rival's outfit hasn't changed much. Just longer sleeves.

Is Xmas a big thing in Japan? Just out of curiosity. I'd imagine not, but then, it has little Christian symbolism any more. Its fairly big, but its more for the gifts and the romance aspects of the holiday, not so much for the religious parts.

Shaymins new form NO JOKE! I hate the long sleeves (i dress fall like almost all year round [tee shirt and pants]) the long sleeves look ugly and they literally butchered Lucas now. Dawns is more winter like and i respect the design but i really hate the new look for Lucas an Damian.

Instead New Years is a big deal. I get 1 weeks holiday from December 29th to January 4th for New Years.

Cheers for the clear-up guys. I didn't think it would be celebrated in Japan.
Apparently, the climate has gone cold in Sinnoh, hence the winter clothes for Dawn, Lucas and Pearl.
Oh, and Sky Forme is Grass/Flying. What a great type matchup...

Sinnoh is based on Hokkaido, an island north of Honshu (the largest island of Japan). The weather is very cold up there, so it makes sense. It also has the largest peat marsh in Japan (to reflect this Pastoria City in Sinnoh has the Great Marsh). So the cold weather outfits suit the terrain.
Sky Forme of Shaymin... Well, it's all right. I don't really mind it, it has a bad typing, but hey, Grass is hard to dual type.

True about the weather if Hokkaido but Sinnoh has various things that keep it warm, one legend is based around Heatran if I remember correctly. So if they do make it closer to what it actually is they would have a few things changed.
And Hokkaido's weather is very similar to what I experience up here in Minnesota, partially because its at about the same latitude that I'm at. It can get cold in the winter but the weather isn't bad at all overall. Then again all my friends call me crazy for the fact that I can usually stand much colder temps than they do. The temperature must just seem a lot colder for someone from a warmer climate because to me 40-500F (4-100C) is easily comfortable enough to wear shorts and short sleeves as long as there is little to no wind.

Who knows? Maybe Heatran will also have a bigger role in the storyline. With all the legendaries introduced in Diamond and Pearl, who's to say? Most of them even had their own side-stories, except for Uxie, Azelf, Regigas and Giratina, though it's being rectified in Platinum (obviously!).
Heatran didn't get much of a story either, for something so cool. There was the whole "magma rock" (I think) thing, but that's not a lot.
As I said, who knows?

^ It's hard to come up with a plot with all the legendaries introduced in Diamond and Pearl.
