I'm sticking with Ash being around 14. my theory for this is just based off the fact that it takes about a year for each of the leagues and that Battle Frontier and Orange islands combined took another year. Kanto: starts 10 ends 11 Orange starts 11 ends 11.5 Johto starts 11.5 ends 12.5 Hoenn starts 12.5 ends 13.5 BF starts 13.5 ends 14

Ninja44, what makes you think that Misty is 14? Wouldn't Paul be the same age as Ash because he participated in almost as much leagues as Ash did? (Kanto, Hoenn, Johto, and currently Sinnoh) Cause I was thinking that Misty is 1 year older than Ash, and Paul is also 1 year older than Ash. (Presumably that he already went through Sinnoh, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and he's back in Sinnoh again.) Actually, as strange as it may sound, Paul never said he participated in the Sinnoh league, so he traveled to as many leagues as Ash has, except for Orange Islands and Battle Frontier. If Paul had been through the Sinnoh league before, he would not need to battle the Gym leaders for badges again; he would use the ones he earned from battling them before. Cichawk - actually girls begin puberty much earlier than boys, at around 9 years old. Boys begin puberty at around 13. There's Dawn flirting with Kenny despite the fact that she is 10.

^Paul could've lost to all the gym leaders, therefore he would've spent a year competing but not winning.=3

Actually I believe that nlike in the games the badges expire after 2 or 3 years meaning that he would need to earn the badges all over again as they probably lost validity after a few years and it is said he competed in the league before just not by him

Actually Wolf said unlike the games. A little bit of a typo.
It would make sense that he would need to get the badges all over again after a couple of years, but knowing pretty much what the gym leader would use would make the gyms quite a bit easier.

That's why, unlike the games, they have about 20 different Pokemon to choose form.

If Paul had battled the gym leaders, wouldn't they have recognized him when he is battling them the second time?

That's right, NN. Speaking of that, can't wait until the Veilstone arc. It'll be interesting to see how Dawn and Maylene develop together.

If Paul had battled the gym leaders, wouldn't they have recognized him when he is battling them the second time? Not necessarily, considering how many challengers that they probably get they would only remember a vague few that made them completely consider everything. Like I would say that there's almost no doubt that Surge remembers Ash and Pikachu. But Falkner would have no real reason to remember Ash in particular, it was just another gym battle. So unless Paul made that much of an impression on the leader there's no reason for them to remember him.

I don't think Paul actually DID compete in the Sinnoh League before. He said he travelled through the Kanto, Johto and Hoenn Leagues, but didn't win any of them. He never mentioned competing in the Sinnoh League. Odd, I know, but still....

^That statement makes me wonder, why would you get a pokemon from one region but start in a completly different one when you have one right in front of you?

there r two times ash quotes about a year but both take place in Kanto and early johto. The first was "I can't believe its been a year since we've been here" and the other was in the pikachu special in Pokemon 3 when they celebrated the day Ash and Pikachu first met which was also HIS BIRTHDAY (or if it already passed most likely). So that would mean he'd be twelve in early johto. Assuming that time shares its same speed as it always does Ash is most likely about fourteen
So that most likely means he was twelve when he entered Hoenn and met a strikingly beautiful girl who was a two year apart difference than him. Since the Battle frontier was only one american season its safe to say that it had no real signifigance on his age so he was probably 13 still when he left for Sinnoh soon to be 14 (probably by movie 11 he'll be fourteen)
