I feel sort of happy.
In AP US History, we discussed the Lewis & Clark expedition, sex, and Native Americans.
In fact, the general question we had to answer was...
..."What was the nature of sexual relations between men [in Lewis & Clark's expedition] and Native Americans?"
The answer was that it runs very deeply. The Native Americans (some tribes) believed that sex was like a pipeline transmiting powers or abilities from one person to another. Young wives of young, inexperienced buffalo hunters would have sex with more experienced hunters to receive the transfer of their abilities, and have sex with their husbands to give them the hunting abilities they received. This was supported by the husbands of these young wives.
Sex was also used in business, such as sealing a trade agreement. Instead of signing names or shaking hands, in the words of a friend, "they shake different hands." It wasn't taken as racist because it was an education about another culture.
Lewis and Clark's journey had about 50 young, unmarried men and no women when they started. They traveled for 3 years without women, so you know how they "are". When they met some Native Americans, prostitution took place, and many times tools (hammers, knives...) were traded for the favors.
Lewis and Clark prepared for this, so they brought supplies such as genital syringes and Venereal salve.
Why do I tell you this? Because I don't want anyone to get wrong ideas about Lewis and Clark's trip, sex, and Native Americans when we discussed it in my history class.

I'm really bored today, what a dull and uneventful birthday this was, just like every other day of my life. And school starts tomarrow as well.
