Some advanceshippers (Like Xaotl, Matkin, Elite4james, etc.) like to have an epic storyline with the shipping at their pace. But some advanceshippers won't read those kind of fics because they wish the shipping would come sooner.
So...
What would Advanceshippers like to see in the first chapter or so that would grab their attention?

Hrm, I don't really know. To tell you the truth if it says Advanceshipping I will usually read it. Unless by some odd chance I miss it. ((Even though I haven't been reviewing anything lately.))

I like to see build up, it makes it more exciting to read.

I like to see build up, it makes it more exciting to read. I'll have to agree with you on that one. the suspense makes me wanna read more. if everything happens all at once it leaves me hanging and kinda disappointed.

Amen to that.
Personally, as a reader of both of you, i think you guys have a good balance in your fics.
James alternates nicely between shippyness one chapter and action the next (think i mentioned this in a review)
QT, hmm, well, you don't tend to write a lot of chapter stories. but i really liked 'A different kind of rivalry' as it stretched out the story really well (in a good way), even though I don't usually read AU stories.
Generally I like fics that are going to keep me interested, and preferably containing pokemon battling as well, e.g. 'May's Crush' and Xaotl's GS, but there are exceptions. A good one is cascade88. Her fics tend to be full of shippyness (some a bit/lot darker than most) and leave out pokemon, but i like them, mainly due to them being aimed at mature readers.
As far a first chap goes, I like it when a major story point starts turning, and invites you to keep reading to see where it goes (e.g. GS, MC, Final Challenge, Project Arceus)
Plus I have a lot of free time at uni, so i spend a lot of it reading, either online or trawling slowly through the Discworld series.
God, I am so crap with words....

I want something to grab my attention with rich detail. I don't want; A kid named Ash got out of bed. I want: Just as the sun rose over the horizon, a kid of about (whatever) got out of bed and sleepily rubbed his eyes. He got up and stuffed his red cap on his head full of hair as black as the deepest night,

^ Same here.
Cichawk does a great job of buildup. He doesn't let Ash and May meet until very late in his story.
I like stories that use the plot to advance Advanceshipping. The story that is saturated in Advanceshipping will get my attention.

Well, I am a bit more of the Epic reader, I don't really know why but it just seem that the Advanceshipping fluff fics are AU, or don't have much of a storyline. Two things I don't usually like in a fic. Exceptions to this are A different kind of raivalry (read half way, and don't seem to have the time to finish it off ) and Zeavees fic (the one where Drew and Misty come to try and split them up) but Zeavees fic hasn't been updated in a while But I really do miss all of those fics that came out when Advanceshipping was still young. The only bad thing about many of them is that they wern't finished just as they got good, like the one that listed their side adventures. Or the one where Dawn and Ash are in a new reigon, and then Max and May are also there, altough neither partie knew of the others position in the reigon. Then there's Super Sayan Max's fics.

^ We should invite Super Sayan Max to this forum, so that we are, at least, reassured that he didn't abandon us or something. Think of it as a way to keep in touch.

I'm not usually very good at writing shorter stories; I tend to have too many ideas and overcomplicate everything, leading to a mess of a story. Plus, when reading I tend to prefer novels over short stories or novella. For me, novels are a passion beyond most else. That's why, when I tend to write, it usually involves a longer storyline.

I wish I could write a longer story but my ideas just aren't expandable like that. I can get a few chapters in and thats about it.

I wish I could write stories. Period.
I have this problem where I have a great idea floating around in my brain, but when I try to put it into words, It gets jumbled up on the way to my mouth / fingers, meaning it makes no sense when I try to write it.
I hate my brain.
