-Ah, finally, I can get back to writing what I love best: the battles! So, expect this episode to be a long one, especially compared to the previous.
-So, uh... You guys positive that Tsuki(can't find an English equivalent) is a girl's name?
MH13: Storm in a Battle Part I
"Sir, the boy has been spotted in Sector C-4," an MiB reported to Mask, inside his large bedroom quarters. "Shall we move in and apprehend him and his allies?"
"No. Let them be. I want to see how much he can do against one of my gym leaders."
"But sir-"
"I said, 'Leave them be'! Is that clear to you, soldier?"
"Y- Yes, Sir!"
"Then leave me." The MiB left the room, and Mask stood up from his throne. "Now I can see if he has improved his skills. Only after then will he be complete." Mask left the room, for completely unknown reasons, especially in the middle of the night.
---
Ash still has the Amplifier in his one hand, and the Terracotta ribbon with the other. All his senses were lost for a moment, pondering on the two items. He couldn't even hear his friends calling out to him, even though they were just a few feet away.
What is the Amplifier doing there? Did Giovanni put it in? Why did the ribbon glow like that? Does it have something to do with the Amplifier as well? And what about the illusions he's seen?
"Ash! HEY, ASH!" Dawn practically shouted the latter two words, trying to get her friend back to his senses, but to no avail. "Pikachu, help us here," she muttered to the Electric Mouse.
Pikachu nodded, and literally jolted Ash back to his senses, frying him, momentarily motionless on the ground. "YOW! Pikachu! What'd you do that for?"
"We thought you lost it, Ash, so we had to wake you up with Pikachu," Max explained.
Ash sat back up, the items still in hand. Dawn pointed to the Amplifier. "What is that, Ash? I've never seen that object before..."
"This?" Ash waved the device for everyone to see. "It is a part of Giovanni's invention that increases a badge's abilities. I-"
"Abilities? I didn't know badges have-" Max began, but Ash cut him off.
"It's a long story, and I'll tell you all about it later. But right now all I can tell is, I think that was why the masked man was after the gym leaders. As for Giovanni, he was also being hunted for this thing..." Ash looked at the device like some sort of puzzle. "Why is it in my bag? Did he lave it there? If he wanted me to get it, why didn't he just give it to me personally?"
To quickly break an incoming silence, since no one could apparently give Ash an answer, James spoke up. "Why don't you Twerps find a place to rest, and tackle the gym later, while we make repairs to the boat?"
No one objected to this idea. Ash, after all the training plus the weird happenings on their way here, felt like he hadn't slept in a week. Ash put the Amplifier back in his bckpack, but the ribbon he pinned inside his shirt, without anyone looking. Then the "Twerp Troop" trudged out of the harbor and into Route 25, heading for the main part of Cerulean City.
Getting a place to stay was the hard part. Unaware of the time, the city is cloaked in twilight, like every other place the gang visited. "Think we'll find an open inn here somewhere?" Max asked, as he eyed a shop nearby, which was closed down, with the windows and doors boarded up.
"Maybe, maybe not," Ash said slowly. If only Misty were around, then they would get to sty at the gym with her sisters. Only, of course, that wasn't the case, or else they wouldn't be in that situation right now.
Speaking of which, they managed to get in proximity of the Cerulean Gym. However, unlike the other buildings around it, the majestic Pokemon gym looks "lived in". NOW it was easy to tell-
"Let me guess," Dawn muttered. "That's where the new gym is as well?"
No sooner than they approached did bright light flowed from the gym, illuminating the trio and blinding them momentarily in the night-like darkness. From the direction of the light, a sweet voice rang out. "I was told you'd be coming...
"What're you waiting for? Come in." They couldn't make out the speaker, but they still silently followed. Ash braced himself, ready to grab his Pokeballs, just in case they are walking into an ambush.
However, it never came. Pretty soon they were in the interior of the gym, just in front of the large pool that quadruples as the Sensational Sisters' acrobat medium, the gym's main arena and the aquarium habitat of their Pokemon.
Still adjusting their eyes to the brightness, Ash craned his vision, trying to find the person who brought them in. All they found was a girl, way on the other side of the pool, her feet dipped in the water, splashing around playfully. She was no older than even Max, and sports sky-blue hair that reaches down to her shoulders. She also wears a blue one-piece, under a small white beach robe. Pinned to the left side of the robe is a badge. This badge is shaped like a teardrop falling into a splash of water. The same symbol is on the wall of the gym behind the girl.
"So, you must be Ash Ketchum," the girl said cheerfully. They recognized her voice as the one who welcomed them into the gym. "The Boss has told us about you. He's also taken quite an interest in you; don't know, don't care. All I want is to have some fun.
"The name's Tsuki, the 'Rising Tide of Talents'. I am the new leader of the Cerulean City Gym, and holder of the Tide Badge. If you want to compete in my Boss's new league, you have to go through me first. Now, are you here to battle me or not?"
Max and Dawn looked at Ash, and the latter took this as a cue, and walked forward. Smiling with glee, Tsuki jumped to her feet. Immediately, a circular, red platform appeared in front of her, coming from the bottom of the pool. A similar platform also resurfaced, right next to Ash, only this was green. Tsuki jumped to her platform, and Ash and Pikachu followed her example. A third, also circular, only larger, platform appeared in between.
"Over here, Max," Dawn said, pointing to a couple of bleacher seats in the sidelines. Just as they sat down, a trap door suddenly opened up beside them. From beneath the trapdoor was a weird, box-like contraption, blinking profusely. It started to speak, in a tin voice, reciting the standard gym battle rules:
Trainers are allowed three Pokemon per battle. Leaders are not allowed to switch out their Pokemon, but the challenger can. The battle is won when all Pokemon on one side are defeated. Let the battle commence!
Ash readied himself, only to realize that when he moved, so did the platform. Only then he found out that the platforms are unstable, especially when he's shifting his weight.
"What's wrong?" Tsuki asked. She is now tossing one Pokeball from one hand to the other. It was quite obvious that her platform was also unsteady, but she manages to maintain her balance unlike Ash. "You afraid you gonna fall?" she taunted.
"We'll see 'bout that," Ash muttered. "Pikachu, you go first."
Pikachu nodded, and jumped from the first platform into the other. "Hmph," Tsuki grunted. "An electric-type. How predictable. For this I choose, Mantine!" The gym leader responded by tossing her Pokeball into the air, releasing the Kite Pokemon. He hovered in the air for a short while before landing in the water.
Mantine vs. Pikachu. BEGIN!
"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
The Electric Mouse charged himself up, then released a powerful bolt of electricity, aiming right for Mantine. "Whirlpool, Mantine, and combine it with Steel Wing!"
Like a ship's propeller in the water, Mantine began spinning rapidly, creating an enormous whirlpool around him. The whirlpool suddenly covered the entire expanse of the pool, and the three platforms are affected. Ash found himself outbalanced again. MKeanwhile, Pikachu's Thunderbolt hit Mantine at the center of the vortex, but wasn't affected! Instead, the Thunderbolt rebounded, right back at Pikachu!
"Pikachu, quick, dodge it!" Pikachu only escaped his own reflected attack in a mere half-second. However, the Pokemon also lost his balance, and couldn't stop himself from the rapids of the whirlpool!

Cerulean City's code mentioned at the beginning is a direct reference: C for, of course, Cerulean City, and 4 stands for it being the 4th town visited.

Don't worry Dryuu, Tsuki is perfectly fine as a girls name. If you don't trust me I'd be willing to bet that James would back me up on this.
And we've already told you what it actually means in English, tsuki means moon. The moon controls the tides, it works just fine. Just worry about making the coming battles high quality like your others.

^Oh, so that's a relief then. -Might be a bit rusty, since the last Pokemon battles I ever scripted were large-scale, minus one in a "flashback".
-Hoo, longer than expected delay. Sorry 'bout that, Final Fantasy 1-6 got through to me.
MH14: Storm in a Battle Part II
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail to cling back to the platform!" Ash shouted. Tail shining, Pikachu slammed it into the platform, creating a sort of anchor. He swung himself back to safety, but still trying to maintain balance. Ash breathed a sigh of relief.
"Quick thinking, but how long will that last?" Tsuki playfully called from across the arena. Ash couldn't help but glare at her. "We'll see 'bout that... Mantine, Hydro Pump!"
Mantine appeared from in front of Pikachu, and fired Hydro Pump straight at him. Pikachu needn't warning from Ash, as he quickly released his anchor, then jumped backwards. Mantine, however, continued his powerful spray of water whilst in the air, folloing Pikachu wherever he goes on the main platform.
"Pikachu, quick, while he's still in the air," Ash suggested, "Thunder!" Pikachu agreed, and fired a second Thunderbolt at Mantine. However, the latter proved to be too fast, and quickly spun around rapidly once again, sort of a Whirlpool in mid-air. Once again, Pikachu's Thunderbolt rebounded, and it was then that Max realized the tactic.
"Ash!" the young pre-trainer called from the stands. "Mantine is using his Steel Wings like a mirror to reflect Pikachu's electric attacks! It-"
"Very smart," Tsuki said, nodding her head in Max's direction, interrupting him as well. "But, I'm not just using that combination as a defensive measure. Show them, Mantine!"
Still spinning, Mantine suddenly dived downwards to Pikachu! The latter managed to dodge the attack, barely, but Mantine's Whirlpool spin, combined with Steel Wing, tore through the platform, nearly dividing it in half!
Once again, Pikachu was thrown off-balance. Mantine soared back up, before diving towards him again. "Pikachu, brace yourself. Use Iron Tail at the head before he hits you!"
Tsuki smirked, accompanied by a lopsided smile. At this gesture, Ash thought that she was wondering herself if that was such a bright idea. Pikachu spun his entire body around, whirling the tail forward, at Mantine.
Recoil from the collision of the two attacks knocked both combatants backward; Mantine safely back in the water, while Pikachu remained in the broken platform. Ash noticed that, when Pikachu fell backward, the platform was getting more unstable at the moment.
Mantine, underwater, reformed his Whirlpool, sending the platforms into peril again. Still, Tsuki remained calm in directing her orders. "Mantine, use Hydro Pump from all around the pool!"
With Whirlpool around them, it was hard to predict where the powerful projectile attack will come from. Pikachu found himself being fired at from different random angles around the pool, at different times.
For a moment there, Ash saw a shadow beneath the water dart past him, but it was too fast. Pikachu's taking damage, fast, and the battle might be over soon, if Ash doesn't think fast again.
"Mantine, use Steel Wing to slice through Pikachu," Tsuki said. From a distance, Mantine's wing is seen rising above the water, like a Sharpedo's fin racing to a prey. He's approaching a trapped Pikachu, and fast.
"Pikachu, to your left!"
The Electric Mouse turned in that direction, but it was a close shave, literally. Mantine's Steel Wing sliced the entire platform in half, barely missing his target! Since the weight of the platform has shifted, Pikachu's lost balance again. He used Iron Tail to brace himself on the platform again, regaining his balance. He aimed a Thunderbolt at Mantine, but the latter only jumped out of the water at the last moment, barely avoiding the electric current the water experienced.
Ash realized that Mantine now couldn't get back into the water, and saw it as his chance. "Pikachu, spring through the air, with Volt Tackle!"
Pikachu used Iron tail to propel himself upwards, charging his whole body up in the process. Mantine sensed the incoming approach, and folded his wings forward to intercept the Volt Tackle with Steel Wing. The two attacks met, and both have received powerful recoil, falling into the water afterwards.
"Pikachu!"
"Mantine!" Both combatants barely managed to float in the surface of the water, before finally succumbing to their injuries. Neither trainer attempted to wade the water, since it might still be electrified, although Ash had a sudden impulse at first.
Both Pikachu and Mantine are unable to battle. The first round is a draw.
Minutes later, Pikachu is being nursed back to health by Dawn and Max. Times like this, Ash wished that Brock was still around with them. Meanwhile, the pool water returned to normal, and the shattered platform earlier replaced.
"Aw," Tsuki said, throwing a pout and near-tantrum reminiscent of girls her age, as she recalled her Mantine, "you beat my Mantine!" She said this, without even considering that Pikachu also lost the match, hence the draw. "I have to admit, you're good. But, you'll pay for that! Go, Walrein!"
The Ice Break Pokemon appeared. It slammed his large front appendages, mocking a Seel clapping, creating a very loud noise.
"An ice- and water-type," Ash muttered, eyeing the large Pokemon apprehensively. "Without Pikachu, that's going to be hard to counter. But, I have to continue. So, I choose you, Floatzel!"
Ash's Sea Weasel Pokemon appeared, and sneered apprehensively at his opponent. Walrein, unfazed by the stare, returned it with a glare of his own. Walrein vs. Floatzel. BEGIN!
"Ice Ball, Walrein," Tsuki commanded. Using icy breath from his mouth, Walrein created an Ice Ball in his hand, which he tossed, hard, to Floatzel. The latter easily evaded the slowly-executed attack, but the Ice Ball hit where Floatzel used to stand, creating a large, gaping hole.
'Uh-oh,' Ash thought. 'That Ice Ball may be harder than I thought.' "Floatsel, Aqua Jet!" he shouted. Floatzel dived into the water, but quickly resurfaced, his body covered by a coat of water as he tackled Walrein.
Walrein, however, wasn't about to be taken down by such an attack, and instead clamped down his opponent with his large flippers! "Use Strength, Walrein." Walrein managed to lift Floatsel over his head, then tossed the latter hard on the ground with Strength.
Floatzel has barely managed to recover when Walrein hurled another, stronger Ice Ball at him, smashing it on his back. Ash's pokemon is on the verge of knocking himself out, so Ash had no choice.
"Return, Floatsel!" Ash said, recalling the Pokemon into his Pokeball.
Tsuki had a smirk on her face again. "Oh, now that's no fun," she pouted. "Now, which Pokemon are you going to call next?"
Ash clenched his fists. All of his remaining Pokemon have a clear disadvantage at Walrein's type combination. Then, he remembered something told to him a while ago: Never rely on the strengths and weaknesses of your Pokemon's type. It is a rule that everyone's used to, and therefore easy to predict by others. Find your way around your Pokemon's own weaknesses, and it will be easy to get the upper hand in battles.
'I must be crazy if I'm going to use this, but I have no choice now,' Ash thought. "Go, Monferno!" The Playful Pokemon appeared, holding his tail out and waving it menacingly at Walrein.
It wasn't just Ash who remembered the Rocket Boss' advice. Dawn and Max recounted the tip when they saw Ash call out the fire-type Pokemon. "I sure hope Ash knows what he's doing," Max muttered.
"Blame it on you-know-who," Dawn replied.
---
"HA-CHOO!" Giovanni sneezed loudly, wiping his nose. For a moment there he was half-expecting Wobbuffet to race into the room, then remembered that the not-so-lovable blue blob is gone.

^See, that's what I get when people don't even read this here. I'll change the badge right away. DISCLAIMER(do I have to do this every time I make certain references?): R2-D2 belongs to George Lucas, and Luke Skywalker, of Star Wars, not mine.
MH15: Storm in a Battle Part III
Walrein vs. Monferno. BEGIN!
"Walrein, Crunch attack!" Walrein slid through the platform straight at Monferno, his large fangs bared. However, before he could take a large bite out of his opponent, Monferno dived out of the way, and slapped Walrein with his tail in the process.
"Monferno, Fire Spin," Ash ordered. Monferno jumped a little distance away from Walrein, then breathed fire, which circled Walrein, trapping him in a fiery tornado.
However, Walrein countered Fire Spin with Water Sport. This was done by the Ice Break Pokemon spraying water from his mouth upwards, to the open vortex of Monferno's Fire Spin. The water not only coated Walrein, like the move was supposed to, but it also created thick steam with the fire.
The steam started to cover the entire battlefield, from the platforms to the edge of the pool. Ash shielded his eyes and mouth from the steam, and coughed out, "Monferno, don't let your guard down, Walrein could attack from anywhere!"
As if a response, Walrein appeared from Monferno's left. He fired Water Gun at point-blank range, and the force of the water nearly drove the fire-type over the edge, literally. Monferno, with both hands, clawed the platform's surface, trying to prevent himself from falling over into the water.
"Water Pulse, Walrein!" A sphere of water formed in front of Walrein, which he then fired in the direction Monferno's supposedly in. The latter barely avoided it by inches, and the force of Water Pulse was enough to leave a crater in the wall where it hit.
Even through all the puffy steam, Ash could see the crater from where he was standing. He didn't want to imagine what would happen if Monferno was hit with that...
Suddenly, Walrein, with surprising elevation, appeared from high above, ready to Body Slam Monferno flat. The latter was able to evade the attack, but Walrein's impact with the platform caused a shockwave, knocking Monferno off-balance again.
Ash still couldn't see, but he could feel the shockwave the Body Slam caused, and worried for his Pokemon. "Monferno!" he shouted. "Use Flame Wheel to clear the steam out of the arena!"
Monferno, making sure he's a good distance from his opponent, folded in the middle, and grabbed his feet. With his tail on the borders of the "wheel", he caught fire, and started spinning rapidly right on the spot. Monferno's spin managed to suck in the air around it, clearing the area of steam.
At that exact moment Ash saw Walrein sliding towards Monferno at dangerous speeds. "Monferno, quick, get out of the way!" The Flame Pokemon quickly broke out of Flame Wheel, and sidestepped Walrein, making the latter miss by mere inches. "Now, use Seismic Toss!"
For two Pokemon relative to size like that of Monferno and Walrein, the former was able to lift the latter by the tail. With all his strength, Monferno spun Walrein around with tremendous force, before releasing him, sending him flying right at the wall out of the arena!
"Walrein!" Tsuki shouted. Her Pokemon, however, couldn't answer. It doesn't matter, since the robot referee has made the decision. Walrein is unable to battle.
Once again, Tsuki pouted. "Hmph, our Boss was right to say that you're something to watch out for," she muttered. "But, your challenge ends here and now! GO, Empoleon!" Empoleon, the Pokemon fashioned both after Napoleon and the Greek deity Poseidon(slightly), appeared, giving an imposing appearance to Monferno.
Empoleon vs. Monferno. BEGIN!
"Monferno, don't want to pressure you, but we have to end this, fast! Try another Seismic Toss!"
"Oh, no you don't. Empoleon, Metal Claw!" Three sharp protrusions from beneath each of Empoleon's wings appeared, lengthened in size, and shone brightly. The water-/steel-type used them like swords, slashing and stabbing at Monferno. The latter dodged them with ease, and then lashed around with his tail again.
However, Empoleon grabbed the tail in midswing, and left an opening on Monferno's part. Empoleon utilized this, slashing at the latter's back. It doesn't stop there, and Empoleon, holding his dazed opponent upwards, fired a powerful Hydro Pump. Monferno rose high, before falling, dangerously fast, downwards.
Ash, thinking(or maybe not) quickly, dived forward, and caught Monferno in mid-air before the latter could fall into the water. This action sent the robo-ref haywire that sparks were flying, literally, and Max and Dawn nearby had to duck away.
Interception, INTERCEPTION! The challenger has assisted his Pokemon, resulting in immediate disqualification!
"HEY!" both Max and Dawn shouted in rage. "Ash saved his Pokemon from what may be a watery grave, you know!" the former added.
The referee rounded on them. Interception is still interception! The challenger is disqualified!
Ash stood up, an unconscious Monferno in his arms. He fixed a piercing glare at Empoleon in front of him, not knowing that Tsuki was watching him with interest.
"Ref," the gym leader said softly and slowly, "I'm nullifying the disqualification..."
"What?"
What?
"I said, I'm nulling Ash's disqualification," Tsuki repeated. "He saved his Pokemon, that's something in my book."
But-
"No buts. Ash has one Pokemon left, doesn't he? It's just one battle left. What do you say, Ash?"
"I- I guess..." Why was the girl being lenient? Ash didn't have time to fathom this; he recalled Monferno back into his Pokeball, and jumped back onto his own platform. Wondering if his third Pokemon is up for one more battle, he called out, "Floatsel!"
The Sea Weasel Pokemon is still weakened from his brief stint with Walrein earlier, but he stood strong. After some hesitation, the robo-ref announced the start of the last round. Final round. Empoleon vs. FLoatzel. BEGIN!
Empoleon quickly rounded on Floatzel, slashing and stabbing with Metal Claw again. The latter, still weakened, could barely manage to avoid the attacks.
"Floatzel, Sonicboom!" The Sea Weasel jumped into the air, and spun around, his tail causing the soundwave-like attack. Empoleon blocked it with his wings, but the Sonicboom caused some cracks to appear beneath and around his feet.
This didn't faze Empoleon. In fact, just as Floatzel landed on the ground, Empoleon sprinted towards him. His head is low and horns facing forward, towards Floatzel, but it's no Headbutt. It was a "just as deadly" Drill Peck!
Floatzel winced in pain, when the horns stabbed his furry skin. Empoleon raised him upwards, like what he did with Monferno earlier, and indeed used the same tactic. Floatzel was flying in the air, courtesy of Empoleon's Hydro Pump. Try as Ash might want to, he couldn't jump in like last time, and Floatzel landed with a large SPLASH! in the water.
When the Sea Weasel resurfaced, he was completely out of breath, and clutching the part where Empoleon stabbed him. The latter Pokemon dived into the pool after him, and an intense underwater chase begins. So that they could see what's going on, the robo-ref provided a hologram view of underwater, a 'la R2-D2.
"Surf, Empoleon!" Water currents around Empoleon rapidly increased, and he directed them to Floatzel.
"Sonicboom, FLoatzel!" Floatzel lashed his tail in front of him 180 degrees, creating the Sonicboom.
The two attacks met in mid-underwater, and sent the two Pokemon reeling backwards in recoil. They hit the pool walls with their backs, but they still managed to get back in, even Floatzel! The two Pokemon circled each other, trading Hydro Pumps and SonicBooms.
"Another Drill Peck, Empoleon!" Empoleon swam fast, his horns protruding forward again.
But, this time, both Floatzel and Ash are ready. "Brick Break!" Floatzel's hands glowed white, and drives them at Empoleon just as they collided.
The momentum of Empoleon, coupled with the super-effectiveness of Brick Break, was enough. As a finisher, Floatzel delivered an uppercut to Empoleon, sending him up and out of the water. The Emperor Pokemon landed on the platform with a loud crunch, completely knocked out.
Empoleon is unable to battle. Victory goes to Ash and Floatzel!
"Yes!" Ash shouted. He ran to the side of his platform, where his Pokemon surfaced. He and Floatzel, even in the latter's weak state, exchanged hi-fives to celebrate.
Contrary to what they expected from her, Tsuki took her defeat lightly. She and Ash met on the center left side, and shook hands. "That was quite a battle. I never expected you to have Brick Break with your Floatzel."
"Thanks."
Tsuki sighed ruefully, then took off the badge pinned to her robe, and handed it to Ash. "Here's the Tide Badge, trophy of the New Cerulean Gym. You deserve it."
And, as usual, Ash held the badge proudly, high above him. "I won the Tide Badge!" His friends, and Tsuki as well, applauded him.
Tsuki looked at Ash's Floatzel, who was barely standing next to his trainer, and Pikachu, in Dawn's arms. "Your Pokemon must be completely worn out. Why don't you stay for a while and rest up while they recover?"
Her three soon-to-be guests looked at each other. After a second, Max said, "How do we know that this isn't a trap?"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Don't play dumb with us," Dawn added. "Badges and League or not, we're still on the run, you know."
"Oh, that, don't worry about it. Mask, as we'd like to call him, gives us free rein in our areas of jurisdiction. As long as I'm around, his goons will never touch you."
"That's reassuring," Dawn muttered, a tone of sarcasm in her voice.
But, at that moment, Ash's, Dawn's and Max's stomachs rumbled in unison, indicating their hunger. The gym battle made them easily lose track of the time. "Well, you have no other place to stay around, so I expect you in the dining room in a few minutes," Tsuki said, pointing to the door leading to the living quarters of the gym.
Without even waiting for an answer, she ran off. Over her shoulder, Tsuki added, cheerfully, and a wink in Ash's direction, "My cooking is, as they say, out of this world, so you have to try it out!"
Dawn easily saw how Tsuki was being kind to Ash. "Uh-oh. That can't be good..."
"You mean about this might be a trap?" Max asked.
"No, that may be the lesser of two evils, especially considering him," Dawn muttered, jerking a thumb at Ash in front of them. The latter didn't even notice, since his mind is now fixated on the thought of a free meal.
"Yeah, you're right," Max agreed. "Especially if her cooking's better, or worse, than you-know-who," Max added.
---
"Ha-CHOO!" May sneezed. A moment earlier, she was rubbing cheeks with Pichu, which is why Misty arrived at this conclusion:
"May, I think it's about time Pichu had a bath..."
"Yeah, you're right. Sorry, Pichu..." Pichu turned to the 4th wall, lips quivering. I doubt that this Pichu likes baths very much...

Heat disperses water molecules, causing them to separate from being dense mist into something more visible.
Cold has an adverse effect and can cause molecules to move closer together forming a liquid (water) and then a solid (ice).

^My explanation is that the vortex created in the center of Monferno's Flame Wheel creates a vaccuum that sucks in the air, and the mist. But, James' explanation works well too. ;D
-The reference to May last episode was NOT bashing. I'm pretty sure she wasn't a good cook, evidenced, although debatable, in the AG episode "Berry, Berry Interesting". Plus don't forget that the statement is from Max's point of view.
-I'll reveal Tsuki's real name here, and be using it onwards. Water-type reference or not, it's not right to call her by a Japanese name. I only felt this AFTER War of Legends' first episode was published.
MH16: Hospitality
While the Twerps challenged the Cerulean Gym, the Rockets were busy themselves, repairing the dingy. Well, actually, Meowth and James are the ones working, while Jessie, unknown to the other two, is just relaxing in the bridge.
"Hey, Jess," Meowth complained, over the roar of the boat's steam engine, "how's about giving us a hand over? We're fighting a losing battle here!"
"Settle down Meowth, I am busy myself, trying to make this place look lived in when the Twerps return."
"Yeah, right," James muttered, wiping sweat and oil off his brow. "What do-"
His complaint was interrupted by the boat's transistor, which was signaling that a message is coming. All three scrambled into the radio room below deck, to intercept the message. It was from their Boss, Giovanni. The message was barely heard throughout the static.
"... Leave... Ash... Head... Sinnoh... Meet... Cyrus..."
Giovanni signed off, even before his subordinates could reply. "What was that about?" James asked rhetorically, scratching his head.
"And who is this Cyrus fellow that the Boss wants us to meet?" Meowth added.
---
Earlier, Giovanni received a phone call from Professor Oak. From the latter, he learned of the weird readings that seem to occur in the Johto-Kanto mainland that Oak was researching on during his tenure in the Sevii Islands. Further research and investigation that the disturbances are caused by ruptures in time and space.
Giovanni also learned that Mask had nothing to do with the disturbance, since, according to Cielo, it all began even before the masked man took over. "If there's anyone I know who's an expert on time and space, it's Cyrus," he told himself.
"After that headcase's attempt at recreating the universe in his image years ago, he is a good source of knowledge on this matter. As much as I don't want them to leave Ash 'unattended', this seems more important a matter.
"I just hope those three bunglers don't screw this up like most times."
---
Dinner provided by Tsuki was surprisingly delightful. This, plus the fact that Ash's Pokemon are resting well, made the group's tone more lighthearted. Taste-wise, one could say that the meal was fit for a king. During the meal, Tsuki told her backstory to her guests.
"My real name's Ariel. Mask gave me the alias because it means 'moon' in a foreign language.
"I was accepted to Pokemon Tech down south when I was just seven. Graduated, just a few weeks ago, after two years, then Mask found me, and recruited me into his League. Not long after, I was assigned to this gym. Sorry, but I don't know what happened to the previous leaders."
"It's okay," Ash said, through a mouthful of rice. "Tell us more about this Mask you're working for."
Tsuki, er, I mean, Ariel, just shrugged. "He's as much of a mystery as that covered face of his. Neither I nor the other Leaders know who he is."
Max leaned back on his seat, massaging his tummy. Ash wasn't the only one to Grumpig out on Ariel's meal. "Well, I don't have anything, not even on a mystery, on my mind right now but to sleep."
"I already had two rooms ready for you to stay in," Ariel said. She stood up, and cleared the table, and balancing dirty plates on her hands. "Feel free to go to them; I'm going to clean all this up."
Max yawned and followed the directions. Ash went to the recovery room to check on his Pokemon. Dawn, meanwhile, volunteered to help Ariel with the dishes.
While her hands are scrubbing dirt off a plate, Ariel asked, "Tell me, are you- Ash's girlfriend?"
Dawn reacted by choking, and nearly dropping the platter Ariel handed to her. "Gi- girlfriend?" she repeated, in a stammering voice. "Of course not! He's more like a brother to me."
Ariel looked relieved. It must be apparent in her face, since Dawn quickly added, "But I do believe there is someone else who is very close to him."
"Oh." Ariel's voice faltered. "Where is she then? Is she the same friend you guys were looking for when you came to this gym?"
"Well, we were looking for that friend, but she's not the one." This remark left Ariel confused, blinking. "What I mean is, that the girl I'm talking about, isn't the same one from this gym. She's Max's older sister."
"Oh," Ariel said again. Her first impression on Max's sister would be another "nerdy type", then immediately wondered if Ash is into those types of girls.
---
In the recovery room, Ash is completely unaware that the girls are talking about him. Instead, he was sitting next to the makeshift bed of Pikachu(all three of his Pokemon used have one each), right beside Dawn's Buneary. Both Dawn's and Ariel's Pokemon were in the same room as well. Earlier, there was a one-sided animosity on Empoleon by Floatzel, but was immediately subsided by Ash's arrival.
"Get well you guys," he said, with pep like that of a major league game coach. "We're still not out of this yet..." His Pokemon nodded their agreement. Ash stood up, yawned, and headed for the door. "By the way; I'm not saying that I don't trust Ariel," his voice directed at the subject's Pokemon, "but I think it would be safe to keep on your toes, you guys. We can't take any chances."
---
Next morning, Ash nearly fell off his bunk bed. Lucky that he was on bottom bunk, or else he would have more than just a bump. Rubbing the back of his head where he landed, and Ash stood up, carefully making his way out of the room without waking Max.
In the hall outside, Dawn just passed him, towel and soap in hand, already on her way to the bathroom. They looked at each other knowingly for a moment, then, started racing for the said room.
"No way, Ash! Ladies first!" Dawn shouted throughout their race in the hall.
"HAH! Don't worry, Dawn, I'll be quick, unlike you, Ms. 1 Hour is not Enough! I need to go first!"
"We'll see about that."
Ariel opened the door of her room just in time to see the race, almost being run over by Ash in the process. "I hope this isn't his take on 'sweeping me off my feet'," she muttered just as she got back up.
Unfortunately, Dawn's light body contributed her agility, and she got to the bathroom before Ash. As a final insult, Dawn stuck out her tongue at Ash before closing the door. The latter slapped his head and groaned.
"This gym wouldn't have a second bathroom by any chance?" Ash asked, in between a leg jingle, when Ariel neared.
"Downstairs," the young gym leader replied, raising an eyebrow at Ash's jingle. "It's to the left of the pool, facing the main door." Without even a single word, Ash sped for the other bathroom. "Are they always like this?" she asked rhetorically.
Max, who just turned up, much to Ariel's surprise, said, "Dunno; maybe..."
---
After another hearty breakfast, our heroes are ready to head on their way. It was just 8:00 AM, but the morning sky is still in twilight as ever. But, Ash and his friends are far used to it by now to care.
Other than goodbye, Ariel gave them directions for their next destination. "Lita of Saffron City down south is a tricky customer. Her gym is closest, but you'd better take on that one last. However, Armand of Lavender Town is just past Saffron, and I suggest going to him next instead."
"Is he going to be-" Dawn began, but Ariel cut her off with a wave of her hand.
"Like I said before, I saw what Mask sees in you, but I think he sees more," she told Ash. "However, do not underestimate the other New Leaders. It's lucky that you got to fight me first I'm arguably the easiest of the bunch."
"We'll keep that in mind," Ash said, nodding his gratitude.
Max had a question he's been meaning to ask since they arrived, but he completely forgot about it until now. "Tell us; how many more trainers were able to tackle your gym?"
"A hundred few, but even less on those who managed to beat us. I swear, the New League will be smaller compared to the other Leagues you've been into." Turning back to Ash, she added, "Good luck, and, uh-" Ariel turned red. Ash didn't know what this meant, but Max and Dawn did, of course, and sighed and rolled their eyes in unison.
"What was all that about?" Ash asked out loud once they left the proximity of the gym.
"That's for her to know and you to find out, later," Max answered.

Right, James's Expalnation makes sense, it's just the way that you described the scene that made me feel as if it was a bit off. But that's just moi.

-(continued from Commitment) NO ONE even cares if I continue here, or in this site for that matter, right? My opinions always tend to get ignored, anyway. DISCLAIMER: The concept that I will reveal here(see the title) is based on the one in Final Fantasy V. In other words, it doesn't belong to me.
MH17: Strange Void
Route 5 is easily reached by Ash and friends, south of Cerulean City. The area is dark in tone, not just because of the twilight atmosphere, but also to the mounting tension that could be felt by Ash and his friends when they passed fellow travellers.
"This is really getting repetitive," Dawn remarked, as they passed unsavory characters who started whispering behind their backs, "and creepy."
"I'm with you," Max agreed. "'Go to Lavender Town', she says. I heard that the town is supposed to be haunted-" Dawn gulped at this remark. "-and I don't want to see what the town is like with that ever present dark sky above us..."
"It can't get any worse, you two," Ash said, trying to console them. "Plus, we really can't help it. Lavender Town is where one of the New Leaders is stationed; we're bound to have to go there sooner or later. Or would you rather return to Sinnoh with the Rockets? I'm not."
"But Ash, the Rockets left without a word, didn't they? We tried checking up on them earlier, only to find out that they and that stupid boat of theirs gone."
Of course, Ash does remember that fact. He also remembered something else, and he stated it out loud for the others to hear: I remember Jessie saying 'it's against the criminal code to openly cooperate with do-gooders like yourselves'. I'll bet that they're still just around here somewhere, keeping an eye on us, as usual."
---
However, quite contrary from what Ash believed, Team Rocket is not keeping an eye on them anymore. As a matter of fact, they're not even in Kanto at all! The trio of mischief-makers are now on their way back to Sinnoh, upon the new orders from Giovanni.
Still, something kept weighing at the backs of each Rocket's heads when they stopped the dingy for a short break. Thing is, Giovanni didn't exactly tell them where to find Cyrus, and before he could, Jessie accidentally broken the transistor!
"Great," James said. He was sulking, his hands dangling over the railing and close to the water. He looked like someone who was seasick right now. "How are we going to find this Cyrus now?"
Meowth, who was in a similar position as James beside him, jerked an accusing finger in Jessie's direction. "Blame it on Ms. Klutz of the Month over there."
"Hey, don't blame me! Who in their right mind put that transistor right next to the sink anyway?" No answer. "I thought so. Anyway, maybe I have an idea where we can find this Cyrus character anyway, without even asking the Boss."
"How?" both her cohorts asked in unison.
Jessie slapped them in the back of their heads. "Try to remember, you morons. Who is Cyrus? He's the leader of Team Galactic, remember?!"
"Oh, yeah," James said, rubbing the part of his head where Jessie hit him. "But, where does that leave us? Galactic was long since disbanded; we helped the Twerps bring them down, remember?"
Jessie slapped him at the back again. "Then think back to when they were still in power! What do we know about them then, huh?" She sighed when she saw that getting the answer from them was too much. She literally spelled it out for them. "V. E. I. L. S. T. O. N. E. Veilstone City, you two! Team Galactic's headquarters are in Veilstone City!"
"Oh." Again Jessie's companions said this with a tone that she wasn't quite fond of. "But I'm pretty sure that their headquarters would long be abandoned, right?" James added.
"But that would be a good place to start looking for clues, right?" Jessie pointed out.
Reinvigorated, Meowth literally sprang out of his depressed stupor. "Then what are we waiting for?" he shouted, sprinting back to the bridge. The dingy quickly started up with a loud BANG! "Onwards, to Sinnoh!"
---
May is seen sitting on a comfortable chair in the balcony of her room. Pichu, on her lap, is playing around with its two toys, May's original red bandana, and the half-ribbon. The panorama of the landscape below from that viewpoint was quite spectacular, that May kept wondering where they really are now.
Pichu, earlier, has already noticed that something had happened to the ribbon earlier. He tried showing the peculiarity to May, but to no avail. May was already preoccupied about the ribbon as well, only on another thought.
'I never did ask him where he keeps his half of his ribbon,' May thought, heaving a deep sigh. "Or maybe, he doesn't even keep it with him at all...' She removed a portion of the bandana on Pichu's head, which, earlier, was obstructing the little Pokemon's view.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, then Mask's voice could be heard. "May, could I have your audience? I have something to show you."
When May, Pichu in her arms, stepped outside to meet Mask, she found out that he wasn't the only one there. Brock and Misty were as well, both sharing the same puzzled expressions she had.
Mask, without a word, walked ahead of them, and May and her friends have no choice but to follow him. As they walked through the castle corridors, Misty asked, "Where are you taking us?"
Without turning around to address her, Mask said, "You'll see soon enough. I assure you it will be quite a treat."
The route the masked man seems to be taking was leading them lower and lower into the depths of the castle. However, May remembered the paths they are taking. This is the same route that May accidentally stumbled upon, leading to the Pokemon captive in the castle.
Sure enough, Mask has indeed taken them to the large underground arena-like room where the Pokemon were. The latter group were completely overjoyed at the sight of familiar faces. Likewise, May, Brock and Misty were ecstatic to see them once again, as well.
Mask blended into the background, so as not to hinder the reunion. He was intercepted by a guard, however. "Sir, you think it wise to let them see their Pokemon?" he whispered, but still with an air of respect.
"As long as the Pokemon wear the Limiter Bands, they are as powerless as a newborn infant," Mask pointed out. He didn't even bother to lower his voice. "They do not pose a threat. And those devices cannot be removed so easily.
"Now, tell me. How is the progress on our project?"
The guard again spoke in a low voice. May couldn't help but watch them, speaking in low monotones. However, it was only she who noticed; Brock and Misty were preoccupied at the moment. After a while, the guard led Mask through another door, leaving the trainers and Pokemon alone in the arena.
Brock knew better than to try removing the Bands himself, so instead he let them stay the way they were. But, still he couldn't help but bring himself close to tears when reunited with his Pokemon. Not just his team from Sinnoh, but the Pokemon he left behind at the Pewter City gym. Even Croagunk was a sight for sore(?) eyes for him.
Misty, likewise, was ecstatic to find her Pokemon as well. As a sign of good faith, perhaps, there was a pool off to the side to provide a temporary niche for them, especially for those who cannot survive on land, like Gyarados.
May, however, without even realizing what she was doing, has followed Mask and the guard into the second room. Upon going through the door, she was met with a very, very powerful breeze. And then, a hand held her back, and Pichu was quickly grabbed as well, so the Pokemon won't be blown away. May opened her eyes, trying to brave them through the gale, and was astonished to what she saw.
The room she just entered, even much larger than the one she came from, was completely circular. The ceiling is curved, giving the impression of a dome. May also found herself standing on merely a narrow platform, lining the room's walls. Beyond that, taking the rest of the "floor", was in fact a very large hole. From the depths of that hole, was a black vortex, which created the powerful winds May met earlier.
"She isn't supposed to be here!" the guard shouted. Even though he was at the top of his lungs, the roar of the vortex nearly drowned it out.
Mask nodded, and heralded May back into the previous room. However, it didn't take long, and May is now back in her room; Mask is in front of her. "What was that thing?"
"A phenomenon I like to call, Void," was the curt reply. "It is a result of tampering with time and space for so long. The incident from Los Alamos Town; Team Galactic's attempt to recreate a new universe a little while ago; those are just a few of the causes why the Void came into existence. You could say it exists only because it is there. There is, as implied in the name, complete nothingness in the Void.
"From this moment onwards, I am allowing you to visit your Pokemon any time you want. However, the Void, completely dangerous as it is, is off-limits to you and your friends. Do you understand?"
May silently nodded. Mask turned to leave, but May stopped him with her last question. "What are you planning to do with the Void?"
Mask stopped in his tracks. His answer was completely cryptic, and cannot be understood. "I merely plan to tame it, and that is all."

-Do I have to ask who even reads this anymore?
MH18: Time Out
When they made their way to the outskirts of Saffron City, Ash's group was not quite surprised that the surrounding area is blocked off. Instead of a checkpoint, the north entrance is completely barricaded
"Where are we supposed to go then if we want to enter the city?" one traveler, from behind Ash, asked.
"I am sorry, but you cannot enter Saffron City from this exit," one of the barricade's guards replied. "There has been an unfortunate accident earlier in this area.
"I suggest that you head to another point of entry."
There was a collective groan amongst the crowd, and Ash and his friends were no exception. The crowd was soon dispersed, leaving our heroes alone in front of the barricade, with the guards.
"Well, we certainly won't be going anywhere," Ash spoke up after a while, "so we may as well set up camp somewhere. It's getting late."
"How can you tell?" Max quipped, as the trio of friends walked away from the blockade. The guards followed them with their eyes, not sure whether the group has given up or not. "We're trapped in everlasting twilight, remember?"
While most of the other travellers returned all the way back to Cerulean City, Ash and his friends set up camp a little distance from the barricade. They also released their Pokemon for a while, so the latter could take some time to stretch their legs and also get a little exercise.
"Tell me, Ash," Dawn spoke up, once they are around a small campfire, "why didn't we go back to Cerulean City like everyone else?"
"I'd rather we camp out because it would make us look rugged," was the grinning reply.
Dawn rolled her eyes. Then, Max muttered, "I remember that the last time when YOU 'were the most experienced' in our group, we could've starved to death, if Brock didn't come in at the nick of time..."
"Hey, that was a long time ago, 'kay?" Ash retorted, quite offended. To save himself from further embarrassment, he rummaged in his backpack again. He found what he was looking for a second later: the badge amplifier.
"What're you doing?" Mas asked, who just laid out his sleeping bag.
Ash took out his badge case; one holding his Sinnoh badges, which he held onto even though the Sinnoh League is over; and the other is another, only newer, badge case. The latter was given to him by Ariel earlier to hold his New League Badges.
The single occupant of the NL case, the Tide Badge, sat at the very center of the container. Ash slowly put the amplifier next to the badge. However, nothing's happened. "That's weird," Ash said finally.
"What's weird?" Dawn repeated his words, now sitting up on her own sleeping bag.
"Nothing's happening when I put the Tide badge next to the amplifier, yet-" Ash took out another badge, this time it's the Coal Badge, he added, "When I put the Tide Badge right next to the other badges, it starts to glow. Why is that?"
Max and Dawn looked at each other. "I don't know the answer for that one," the former put in. "Hey, you never even told us why you had that thing in the first place anyway."
"Yeah," Dawn agreed. "Whatever that thingamajig is, what does Giovanni think you plan on using it on?"
Ash shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe it'll all be clearer tomorrow. Good night, everyone." He turned over in his sleeping bag, and seconds later the others could hear his snores.
Max and Dawn also retired into sleep, but, Ash, however, was in fact still awake. He was still staring at the badges in his possession, and the amplifier. And, even though Giovanni wasn't there, he asked, "What do you want me to do with this?"
---
A day after finding the Void, May spent the entire morning with her Pokemon. Her friends are no different. It was only then that the former recounted her experiences the day before. They couldn't get past the message with Mask's cryptic remark and all that.
Brock prepared a special meal for his Pokemon. He doesn't quite trust the type of food their captors are serving their Pokemon. However, a compromise was reached before things got hairy: that Brock would prepare the food, but there has to be a guard keeping watch on him while doing so.
"What is he planning to do with that Void thing, anyway?" Brock asked to no one in particular. He was mulling his thoughts while bottle-feeding Happiny. "What will he gain from controlling something like that?"
"I've got a feeling he's one of those guys," Misty muttered. She made a circular motion with her finger, right next to her ear, indicating her opinion on Mask's state of mind.
With all the time in the world, Pichu is quite enthusiastic about meeting other, "new", Pokemon. However, the little Pokemon seems more enthused at meeting Ash's, more so than the others, for some reason.
Pichu ran around the Pokemon crowd, comprising mostly of Ash's Pokemon. He stopped right in front of the sleeping Snorlax, which, by comparison, is a (no apparent exaggeration) hundred times larger than Pichu right now. The latter Pokemon marvelled at the sheer size of Snorlax, even just those whose feet of his were larger than Pichu.
Swellow and Corphish, nearby, both raised an eyebrow in Pichu's direction. The latter didn't even notice them; instead the little Pokemon began its climb on Snorlax.
On the "summit", which is the top of Snorax's massive gut, the bounciness Pichu felt gave him an idea. A second later, the fun-seeker is now bouncing up and down with Snorlax acting like a trampoline. The Pokemon followed his bounce with their eyes, up and down and up and down, etc., etc...
May, from where she stood, watched Pichu. "That Pichu always loves to play around," she said ruefully, smiling. Pichu, catching a glimpse of May while bouncing, waved at her in mid-leaps.
"Someday that would lead him, and probably all of us for that matter, into trouble," Brock muttered.
As the day wore on, Brock's prediction came true. By now Pichu has unwittingly caused the following mishaps: Glalie accidentally froze the entire floor, and a rolled up Donpahn as well; Swellow is seen having collided with Corphish, the latter's crown causing Swellow considerable pain in the rear; Muk is flattened terribly by a still-asleep Snorlax; smoke from Torkoal everywhere, and Torkoal himself hiding in his shell. Just a tip of the iceberg from all of the overall mishaps, but I refuse to divulge the rest...
Yet, in the midst of all the "chaos and destruction", Pichu was only sitting still. Ah, the joy and privilege of pure innocence, not knowing what he has done.
"I think," May muttered, sidestepping a little over a shivering Torkoal shell to pick Pichu up, "that we had enough excitement for today, eh, Pichu?"
