Right, at the rate my writing is progressing, I will be needing to post on ff.net soon. I have a profile, as those of you I have reviewed will know, but need some advice on posting docs on the site.
e.g. Do I have to copy and paste? or upload a whole word document? In either of these cases, do I have to re-edit for italics / bold / underlining like this site? Do the ***** page breaks copy onto it?
These are all I can think of for now, so you seasoned ff.net authors, please help!
Dave

You need to upload the documents, and no, you don't need to re-edit them.
After uploading, you can create story.

Its real easy Dave. If its a Word document all you need to do is go under the Documents tab in your account page and add the document from your hard drive (you might have to agree to terms of use stuff, but thats almost to be expected).
Then you go to the stories tab and hit New Story.
It should be self explanatory form there. Just make sure that you check the document you uploaded before posting it in the new story section to make sure its what you want to put up (adding pagebreaks is the main thing I do during that check).

Alright, cheers guys. My one niggle is, you know when you but ****** and then go to a new line, it turns into a dotted page break. Does this carry onto ff.net? That's the only thing i need to know now.
EDIT: Oh yeah! Full memberness! Rock on!

Well concongrats on the member promotion.
There is a page break icon in the edit document feature. The page breaks that I usually use in Word don't carry over to the uploaded document, so I need to add them afterwards. I'm not sure if thats what you were asking about but I hope that it answers your question

Ok, if it's a feature then I'll be alright. Basically, in the document i put in a line of ******* to denote page break, and when I hit enter, it turned into a dotted page break thing.
But I think i'll be ok now. Thanks a lot again!

Here's a little tidbit: After adding the Document into the documents section, you can use that "document" over and over again, even after submitting a new story/chapter. You don't need to delete it; just clear the contents inside and you can type on it all over again. I've been using that for a while now(one document is marked "41", indicating the episode number of ToE4, in fact, ;D).

Just remember: Your word document makes things look longer than they appear on FF.net. Also you can't use >,<, *, @, #, $, %, ^, & (I think), =, +, and I think thats all you cant use on the documents. (Trust me, I have an MSN fic for KND up and I have to limit myself on smilies.XP)

It also depends on what program you use to type up your stories. Until recently, FF.net didn't accept Microsoft Works (my preferred program) and so when I wrote a chapter I had to transfer it to NotePad and then upload. That creates a bunch of format issues as you then have to go through the document on FF.net because quotation marks, apostrophes and ellipses are replaced by weird symbols.
On the plus side, having to do that really helps with proofreading!

OK, cheers. I'm using Word, so i don't think I'll have to much trouble.
One more question though. I see some of you guys like writing author's notes at the start and/or end of a chapter. Do you get a chance to add these as you post a chapter, or do you have to add them before you upload the document?
Right, I'm off to write some more. Free Week! Yay!

I usually add author notes after I have written the chapter but before I post the chapter onto FF.net

I type up my story, then add the notes, then I upload my story.

It doesn't take <> either? Man, guess my update will be delayed another day of two. I replaced the {} with <>
Oh, and if you write everything in one doc like used to, remember to edit out the chapters that you don't want up at the time. Look at my Lost in a Forest and you'll see what I mean.
