Hello everybody.
Well here’s a Two shot. I’ll say that this fic is a response to a challenge put before me by Elite4James. The aim was to write a one, or Two shot portraying how Ash and May will act as parents. That’s what I started the fic as...
Then it went to heck. Now I have no clue about what to put it up as, in a summary. If I feel that it should be put up on FF.net.
I DO NOT OWN POKEMON.
and this will be rated a T
And now, I finally begin...

Out of Diamonds

Chapter I – The End
The sky stretched on forever, as light fluffy clouds appeared in front of the baby blue backdrop. Even higher, the planes would have cast up chalky lines in the sky. But the planes noise was not heard.
Not here.
For this place was care free, in comparison the daily runs that weighed down the rest of the world. Some would call it paradise, one person did.
The stars looked down with their eyes that were made out of diamonds to the last piece of paradise upon the ravaged Earth.
The lush green fields stretched on for as long as they could go until they reached the many other Pokémon preserves, one for every type of Pokémon that remained in the corral, so that none may feel out of place inside of it. But eventually the fields, the forest, and the hills were blocked off by a fence, just in case any poachers or Pokémon hunters would try and get in. Even if they would try to steal the Pokémon that were not theirs, they would face off against some of the most powerful Pokémon in the world.
A gravel pathway flowed from a gate in the fence into the fields, swaying with the land. It was not a man made structure that cut across the land, it flowed and became a piece of the landscape. On either side of the road, tall trees stood up, with their tops coned up as it seemed that they were reaching towards the sky, with their bright green leaves, and blossoming white flowers that sparkled in the light of the sun. Occasionally Butterfree, and Beautifly would come and suck the nectar of the flowers filling the road with many colours, that it could be said to rival those of a rainbow. The road travelled looking among the vast fields of grass, where all assortments of Pokémon lived, from the stampeding Tauros that made their way across the landscape, to the Peaceful Torterria that basked in the radiant glow of the sun.
The gravel road continued as it suddenly stopped curving with the landscape, and began to grow up a hill, and the trees continued on either side of it.
Slowly the grass turned into bright flowers that gave off a calm Purple glow and the scent of Lavender would come up the noses of anyone who would walk up the path. In the midst of the flowers Bulbasaur and Ivysaurs would play as they were watched by two peaceful Venasaur that slept side by side. Basking in the glow of the sun, as they were perfectly content by the company of each other. At the end of the path stood a house, not all that large with only one floor. Its walls were a plain white that clearly reflected off of the sun, and its doors were wide open welcoming all and any friends inside.
The sound of happy Pokémon was herd near to the house, as beside it was a large pond of water filled with Pokémon both inside of it and by its side, taking in their fill.
It wasn’t small by any means, as in its depths A Milotic and Garados swam, alongside their baby Feebas, and Magikarp. By the water’s edge a whole range of Pokémon happily drank their fill, occasionally being surprised by a pesky Feraligatr, who would jump out and surprise all of them in good humour. The Pokémon had become accustomed to the pranksters’ jokes, unless he would go too far and then they would show it. All approved of each other, and if anything would go wrong the magnificent Meganium that stood watch would step in and break up any quarrelling. Taking up the responsibility after the Veanasaur had decided that it would rather stay with his family.
In the distance a large mountain with a halo like cloud surrounding its peak could be seen in the distance, but it wasn’t an ordinary mountain, it was an island. One that belonged to the three guardians of Fire, Thunder, and Ice.
This piece of paradise had more than the purpose of looking nice. It was there to make sure that nothing was amiss, and if anything was. The problem would be solved as soon as possible.
But the calm atmosphere was quickly cut up as sounds of excitement, came from nearby.
The cause
Came from a scene of two young children, just about to have a Pokémon battle.
“Go Nidoqueen” a young trainer said in a determined voice as her Pokémon took up a defensive stance upon the battlefield.
“Right, I not gonna lose this one Katie” her opponent said, with an equal amount of determination in his voice. He called his Ghastly out onto the field from its position besides him.
“ly” it said as it looked onto the Nidoqueen.
“Well Sammy, you won’t win against me, especially after I won the Orange league” she said, frustrating the boy with her playful nickname.
“ARGH, its Sam” he said, pulling on his unruly black hair, which bore a resemblance to that of his fathers.
“Sammy” a playful voice pitched in from the sidelines.
“noooo” he said as he fell to his knees, with more and more people calling him by his dreaded nickname. The owner of the voice was a Five year old girl who stood with her parents on either side of her.
“Well” the older man pitched in, “I guess we’ll just have to call you Sammy from now on” he said jokingly, as the young girl giggled at her father’s comment. Sam just gave his father a disappointed stare and then he looked back over to the field, as he changed his poise to get ready for the oncoming battle.
He looked over to his older sister who still had a small smirk upon her face, from the recent string of jokes at his expense, no matter how playful.
“You better get ready; I’ve been training with Ghastly like crazy” he commented, “You may have won the Orange league, but I’m gonna win this match” he said, with the fire of determination running through his veins.
“well” Kate said with grin, “I won’t be all too sure about that” and with that the two just waited.
“Are you guys going to start?” the mother of the two said as she watched from the sidelines.
“I thought you were gonna referee mom?” Sam said, as which the Brunette mother just looked towards her husband.
“Ash?”
“He’s right you know” her husband replied. She then looked down to her youngest daughter Natasha, who just nodded agreeing with her father.
“Ah- well” she said scratching her head in slight embarrassment.
“Come on Mom. You promised” Sam said exaggerating the word ‘promised’.
“Well, I just”
“Come on mom” Katie added on.
“Just ask your Dad” May said piling up responsibility on her other half.
“No” Sam said as if it was a natural reaction, “YOU promised”
“Well” she said feeling defeated by her children. “Alright then” she said, still looking a bit nervous. The two siblings looked away from their mother, who had absolutely no experience as a referee. As they looked towards each other. Although their mother still felt a bit nervous about her first ever attempt, as well as the possibility of looking like a fool in front of her children caused another hazard.
She looked towards her eldest Daughter, who preferred to be called by her nickname, Kate. She had long black hair that took after that of her father, although wasn’t nearly as unruly. Her skin was tanned, as it would be from living in the Orange islands. Then to her second child, and only son. His name was Samuel, after her husband Ash had named him after one of the most influential figures in his life. He was a splitting image of his father, only younger.
But she then felt a comforting hand upon one of her shoulders, “You’ll do great” her husband whispered into her ear, almost as if he could read the thoughts that were going through her mind.
“thanks” she whispered back, then gave a clear “BEGIN” to start the battle
“Night Shade” Samuel commanded trying to get the first hit upon his opponent, as a purple aura flew from Ghastly, in the direction of Nidoqueen.
“Doge” Kate said, and her Pokémon dropped flat on her face. The Night shade passed over as Nidoqueen pushed her arms down to the dirt as if she was doing push ups and gave one big push to get her back upon her feet. “Now scratch!” she commanded, as the Pokémon rushed towards her opponent.
Sam did nothing, as Nidoqueens claw went straight through the ghost Pokémon.
“Nido!” the Pokémon panicked, as Ghastly just smirked in return.
“Now Ghastly, use Lick!” Sam replied, as the Ghost type licked his opponent, much to Nidoqueens dismay. The Pokémon took a few steps away from Ghastly who had just licked her, as Sam spoke.
“Told you I’d got ready for this match” he said.
“Well it doesn’t mean I’m a gonna lose” Kate replied
“The field says something different” Sam replied in a cocky voice, forcing Kate to make a move. Although Kate decided that taunts wouldn’t turn the tables of this battle
“Ice beam” She called, as her Pokémon fired a bright blue beam out of her mouth. The beam missed the Ghost type after the Pokémon quickly dodged to the left, “Again” she called, as her Pokémon let loose a beam even more powerful than the last one, the Ghost type dodged it in the nick of time repeating the same technique that it had utilised previously.
“What” the young boy gasped, at the sheer speed at which his sister was calling her attacks.
“Charge” she called out, As Nidoqueens fist began to glow a bright white, as the Pokémon came in for a ferocious charge towards the Ghastly that stood still in shock. Once in range Nidoqueen struck her mega punch towards the Ghost type, only to have it dodge at the last moment.
“Again” she called out, as Nidoqueens other fist began to glow.
“Dodge” the young boy called out to his Ghastly as the Ghost Pokémon moved backwards in order to dodge the other attack by its opponent.
“Again” she called as Nidoqueens opponent didn’t have enough time to doge, let alone have its trainer order a dodge. As her powerful strike struck, and went straight through the Ghost type Pokémon, causing all parties to stop at the completely pointless actions that had just passed recently.
But Kate had noticed how some of the Ghost Pokémon’s surrounding Gases had moved away after the series of punches and doges, and inspiration struck.
“Ghastly use” Sam commanded but was cut off by an order made by his older sister.
“Blow him away Nidoqueen!” Katie ordered as the Pokémon blew with all of her might at the Pokémon made mostly of gas, as its central core attempted to push closer to Nidoqueen as the gases surrounding the Pokémon were slowly being taken away bit by bit by Nidoqueens breath.
The Ghost types surrounding aura ebbed away, draining away its strength, as its trainer’s orders to “hang in there” fell upon deaf ears by the Pokémon, as all that passed past its ears was the gushing sound of its ethereal aura being blown away bit by bit. The ethereal aura that was necessary for a Spirit of his kind to retain a certain amount of consciousness in the world of the living. In order to be considered Sentient.
So the inevitable occurred and Ghastly fell upon the Earth, so that it could regenerate its protective gases, and the mother of the two called.
“Ghastly has fainted, Nidoqueen is the winner” Nidoqueen as well as her trainer cheered in triumph.
“Told you Sammy” Kate replied with a triumphant smile upon her face, “I didn’t win the Orange league with pure luck” she gloated towards her little brother who had just approached his Ghastly that slowly regained consciousness, he crouched down to the Ghost Pokémon, whispering the words of encourage many trainers speak towards their Pokémon once they have tried their hardest in a battle and lost.
“Sammy” she said once more with her playful nickname towards her little brother “You’ve gotta work a lot harder if you ever want to beat me” she said but as her smaller brother looked up his facial expressions weren’t as they normally were, happy and joyful. Instead they seemed as if he was about to burst into tears as the elder sibling realised that she may have hurt her little brother inside, as she said “Are you alright??” in a more concerned tone of voice.
He didn’t reply to her question instead he attempted to scoop up his exhausted Pokémon in his arms. But he couldn’t as Ghastly just passed through his finger tips, and in the knowledge that he couldn’t do much the young boy just ran back into the house. Running past his parents and younger sister who were left in wonder at what happened to him. Believing that he took the outcome of the battle in the wrong way.
“I’ll talk to him” Ash said to his wife as she nodded in acknowledgement. Ash walked away in order to follow his only son, in order to find out what may be wrong. May decided not to follow him, but instead talk to her daughter who had just won, even though her recent victory was one of the last things on her mind. In comparison to the effects that it led upon her smaller brother.
“Mom? What” she began to ask, but was stopped when she received a reply.
“Don’t worry; I’m sure he’ll get over it, after all. Your dad has gone to talk to him already.” She said, as she then turned towards her youngest child besides her who had a look of worry upon her face. “Don’t worry, he’ll be fine” she said, assuring her daughter.
Knowing that all of her possible questions were going to have similar answers, she decided to ask them anyway. But the young girl was stopped by the appearance of her father who had just returned from inside of the house on his own. The person who was once a Pokémon trainer decided to take a place besides his wife as she looked into his eyes, speaking in a silent language the their children had not been able to decipher.
May looked into Ash’s eyes with a look of concern in them, wondering if he had been able to make sure that Sam was all right, but his reply was spoken in the words, “He’ll be fine” but with her other parent now present Kate decided to ask him instead.
“Dad, What did I do wrong?” she asked, taking advantage of her father’s slightly more direct personality to his kids, in comparison to that of her mothers.
“Well” he began in comparison to her mother who would comfort her saying that there was nothing to worry about. “You did nothing wrong.” He said, stumping his daughter, as his answer was very similar to that of her moms.
And with that Ash walked away, knowing that he would have to think about something.
----
Ash remembered events that had previously, even though he didn’t know the whole story because he had left prematurely.
He had gone into the house, in search for his son, and he had a feeling of his whereabouts, and the banging of a door had just confirmed it, as he walked through the hallway of his house. As the father of three walked, he perked the attention of a small electric Pokémon that had been sleeping peacefully, as age had caught up with it, and it seemed that it required sleep more and more often as they days went by.
As Ash reached the shut door that opened up into his son’s bedroom he saw Pikachu walk up to the door as well, but Ash didn’t talk to his Pokémon in the knowledge that he had to talk to his only son first.
He leaned in closer to the door, “Sam” he said in a calm voice, in an attempt to get his son to talk, but all he heard was a loud thud upon the door that shook it gently, and with that he knew that Sam would probably not even consider that Ash was there if he did go in. But the father still attempted to open the door Finding that it was locked shut. Ash then recalled how he was against putting locks in the doors that were inside of the house, although he wasn’t at home long enough to enforce that rule.
His job took a load of his time.
“Pika” Pikachu said, signalling through his connexion with Ash that everything would be alright, and to let it sort everything out.
Ash nodded in return, as Pikachu jolted, probably knowing another way into the room that only it could reach. Ash guessed...
The father of three looked towards the door. Maybe, maybe he should put his ear to it? Find out what’s wrong.
Just like any other father.
‘No’ He thought as he instead turned his head around and took the decision to walk away from the door. Making the decision to respect his son’s privacy.
----
Ash sat down, upon the grass as he looked upon all of the Pokémon that lived free in the coral. He sighed as his Pikachu ran towards his side, with an expression upon its face that showed how the Pokémon wondered about what was wrong. Even though it knew inside what was amiss.
Ash sighed as the father let his troubles stir inside of himself.
He knew what was wrong, and yet at the same time Ash had no clue.
“Don’t tell me Pikachu” Ash said to his Pokémon, whilst maintaining a look upon the vast corral, that was not overly extravagant for a man in his position, but necessary for someone in his sort o position. It wasn’t like being a Gym leader. A gym leader would have a dozen Pokémon, and have a modest area for them to stay. Ash on the other hand, was one of the last nine, in this world where a scene of beauty was a rare sight.
He had his Pokémon, those of his wife. The children and grand children of both. His first child’s Pokémon as she made her way as on her own Pokémon journey no matter how unsafe it was for her. In addition to the many wild Pokémon who wished to stay within its protective walls, searching for a safe place to raise their own children. That is where the advantage of being on an island comes into play, the amount of refugees aren’t that strong in number, than if it was on the mainland.
They needed a vast area to stay. After all over a hundred Pokémon, with the inclusion of 50 Tauros couldn’t stay in a small back garden. The only options were either a Corral of a famous Professor such as Professor Oak. But they weren’t secure enough. Ash’s position would cause many raids to occur onto the Professors corral, and even though the Pokémon of the father were experienced enough to defend themselves from capture, it just wouldn’t be practical.
So Ash was funded, and given the land to make his own preserve.
A preserve that soon became known as one of the few pieces of paradise in the world.
People in some of the worst off places such as Ore would dream of a place like this. Parents would speak of it to their children, speaking of it like the paradise that Ash knew it was, the paradise that he fought tooth and claw to keep from the hands of those who would want to destroy it. For Ash had heard about the dreams that children had, learning from the stories that their parents told them. Tales of how the smell of the many flowers would give a person eternal happiness, stories of how the sky was made of diamonds.
Ash looked up to the sky, filled with peaceful clouds floating through the breeze, looking as the chalky blue sky. Thinking, Knowing that ‘the Sky IS made of Diamonds’
“Ash” A distant voice called out as Ash continued to look in his gaze.
“Pika, Pi” The trainers Pokémon alerted him to the person who drew closer to him.
“Huh?” Ash said as he snapped out of his little daydream.
“Ash” the person called out once more. The Kanto native turned his head around as he smiled at the person who grew quite close, calling his name in an attempt to gain his attention.
“May” he said as she sat down on the lush grass beside him.
“Hey Ash” she said as she kissed her husband, “I was wondering where you went”
“Well here I am, sorry about walking away. I just needed some time to think.” He admitted.
“About what?” she asked.
“Sam”
“Why, what happened?”
“I don’t know, Pikachu talked to him” Ash admitted.
“Well he’s alright now” May said, “Is there anything wrong?”She asked knowing the answer before it was told.
“I have to go again” he admitted, “There’s some trouble near Cerulean city.”
“Oh” May sighed; it always seemed as if her husband was called for something, “well, when are you going?”
“They asked me as soon as possible. The thing is I don’t know if I should” He admitted, to the shock of his spouse.
“Why?”
“Because, I never stay at home anymore” he admitted, and saw in Mays eyes that he was right, “And you know it. The kids don’t even have a proper dad anymore” he sighed.
“Ash, if you didn’t do what you do where would we be” she asked, to which he just shrugged. “She told me what happened everywhere else, and we live in the Orange islands. I can’t imagine what happened in Kanto, and Johto.”
“People look up to you everywhere.” She said
“and my kids? Do they have a father?”
“Ash, even they look up to you. They understand what you have to do. If you have to go to Cerulean City.”
“Thanks May. I guess I’ll say bye to the kids. Misty will be waiting in Cerulean” he said.
“Misty?” she said remembering about the Hot tempered Gym leader.
“Yeah, she’s the gym leader there... wait, you’re not jealous or anything?”
“No” she said simply.
“I know I’m just jokin’ he chuckled. Even though May didn’t laugh.
“I’ll see you soon. Alright?” May Asked, as the two stood up.
“Yeah, of course you’ll see me soon” he replied kissing his wife as he made his way home to say goodbye to his children.
----
Ash flew upon the back of his Charizard as he neared Cerulean city. He flew above the fields, and scattered houses in the countryside, as he witnessed all of them burning, forcing a pitch black cloud to form overhead. He continued to near the city as his Charizard continued to flap its mighty wings continuing to speed up as the city grew closer and closer.
Pikachu didn’t accompany the trainer as the yellow Pokémon just didn’t feel up to another exhausting Mission.
Gradually the city grew closer and closer, as Buildings that were half wrecked, marked with signs of explosions, and scarred with the blood of innocents, all became more and more clear.
“What happened here Charizard?” the trainer asked rhetorically.
Because he knew all about it.
It was just after his assimilation as a member of the Elite Four. All crime activities seemed to vanish in an instant, and with a year of extremely low crime, the elites lessened their watchful eye upon the legendaries. The Pokémon Rangers were not needed and faded into myth. All seemed right with the world. All the regions were entering their own Golden ages, as prosperity and wealth began to blossom for the people.
Then it came, a subtle message at first. A small symbol in graffiti put onto street corners, it was in the image of a black star. But in its new peaceful state the league or the Elite four didn’t do anything.
Then, before they even knew it they were all assassinated. Riots broke out in all the major cities, as they made war amongst each other. Being led by the gym leaders of each individual city.
Each city became its own state, led only by the leader of the gym situated there. Each Gym made war between opposing Gyms, and therefore the two cities, on occasion treaties were formed. Like the situation was between the Pewter and Cerulean gyms. A treaty that was only made because the leaders knew each other very well from their journeys. But this was one peace in the face of many individual wars.
Many died in these wars, but it wasn’t the end.
Soon a new power emerged, taking over gym after gym. City after city. The Sinnoh region was under their grasp, and So was the majority of Hoenn. They enslaved the innocent people; their soldiers would occasionally beat the citizens, or poison the water supply for the fun of it. They called themselves the Iris.
But there was a force ready to stop them. Out of the entire, former Pokémon league only nine remained alive, escaping assassination. These nine managed to gather the few remaining cities together. As they fought off this threat.
The Nine became heroes in the eyes of the free people. Their saviours, ready to fight for them at every turn the people gave them the name: The Sentinels. Guards, those who looked out for the people. Ready to do what was best for them, and that was the legend.
The only place that seemed to be safe from the Iris were the few regions without Pokémon leagues such as Fiore, and the islands such as the Sevii islands, and the Orange islands such as the island where Ash had made his home, and raised his family along with the other natives, that weren’t as focused upon gyms as the major regions. They managed to remain safe, mostly.
That is what happened. As those that fought the Iris, fought for the people, they found more and more difficulty with every turn in their own lives.
Ash continued to look on as the buildings of Cerulean city grew larger and larger. A cry came from behind of him as two birds cawed as they continued to follow him. The Sentinel along with his ride turned their heads noticing Two Pigeots flying up behind of them. Ash focused his eyes as he saw that they both had riders.
Ash focused his grip upon his Charizard as the Dragon got ready to strike the birds down, as they flew at full speed in order to catch up with the one in front of them.
Ash focused his gaze upon the riders as he noticed how they were both wearing Pale blue helmets. ‘Some of Misty’s men, just here to help’. Ash loosened his tense grip upon his Pokémon as Charizard instantly knew that a battle wasn’t coming yet. The fire type continued on its course at a slower pace to allow the two riders to catch up.
“Looks like they’re expecting us” Ash said to his Charizard, as the other two Pokémon and their riders flew up on either side of Ash. The man to his right made a hand gesture to Ash, signalling for him to follow, as they went up ahead and further into the city.
Charizard followed, as they swooped lower into the spaces in between the skyscrapers in the centre of the city. Down below they saw nothing but the eyes of suffering. No life, only death.
The roads were filled with the dead shells of cars, put in lines through the centre to form makeshift barricades. The shops were looted; the once pristine windows of the many skyscrapers had been smashed.
The Pigeot turned to the right, as they began to head westward, and away from the more built up areas of the city. Slowly they made their way towards the deserted suburbs, and a large building made its mark in the horizon.
A building that Ash had remembered clearly, even if it had gone through severe changes, The Cerulean gym. The pilots of the two Pigeot signalled for the trainer to land whilst they continued on their patrol so Ash complied. His Charizard slowly descended, finding the area next to the Gym to be in a completely different state to that of the city as a whole.
The place was packed full of people, Pokémon. A makeshift runway had been made in the middle of the road. Many tents were set up on the pavement. People and Pokémon rushed around the camp. Setting up Barricades away from the city, and preparing their defences.
Two Enormous turrets with evident battle scars were set up on either side of the camp. Worn out, and aged. But a terrifying sight nevertheless.
In the runway three people arrived as they all looked up towards the Charizard that hovered above the camp.
“Down there” Ash signalled as his fire type descended towards the landing area that had been cleared out. Charizard descended, flapping his wings as the area in between him and the ground underneath diminished. Once he landed Ash got off of his Pokémon, as the three people walked up to him. He recognised them in an instant.
“Guys” he called out as Brock, Misty and another one of his acquaintances came and greeted the father of three.
“Ash” Brock said, shaking Ash’s hand in a way that Brock had once never done. By gripping his friends hand tightly, as if he was trying to break it. But Ash was strong enough to endure, as he squeezed back, causing Brock to hold his hand to numb the pain, once they stopped.
‘They’ve changed a lot’ he thought, as Misty decided to skip the greetings altogether.
“It took you long enough to get here, Sentinel” she said referring to his official position, rather than as a friend, “They’ve already attacked, but with your friend here we’ve managed to hold ourselves. But they’ll be back. You better be ready.” She said as she just turned around and walked away from him.
“Right, thanks Mist” He said sarcastically, whilst she chose not to hear him. “You gonna be alright Brock?”
“Yeah... I’ll just get some ice” the once breeder said as he went in the same direction as Misty.
“riiiight” Ash said as he turned around to the last person on the strip. “Hey, what’s up with them?”
“I don’t know.” The man replied casually. He wore Black jeans, in addition to a black hooded jacket. Where the hood was let down so his face could clearly be seen. He had a light Brown skin colour as well as Dark brown eyes, in addition to pitch black hair as Ash said to him.
“There was a time when he was like my bigger brother, and she had a crush on me” Ash sighed.
“Well they’re married now” the other said casually.
“You’re joking, aren’t you?”
“No, didn’t you know?”
“No. I thought she was married to Tracy?” Ash blurted out in amazement, “What happened to... oh” he said realising what was the most likely possibility, and what would have caused such a sense of distance in one of his closest friends.
“It was a month ago” the other person informed Ash
“I- I didn’t know. She didn’t say.” He mumbled in amazement.
“Get used to it. After today, half the people here won’t be alive anymore.”
“Right” Ash said putting his duties up as one of his major priorities. “So what’s going on?”
“Iris attacked earlier, nothing much, just a light skirmish. Since then we have these baby’s put up.” He said pointing to the enormous turrets. “That and Brock has called a load of people over from Pewter to help us out.”
“Ash” the man said.
“Yeah, Mark?”
“We might live in safety. But these people live in this world every day. Things aren’t as peachy for this lot” he said looking at the men, women and even children that worked with the many Pokémon to prepare for the next attack.
“I know, I just forget a lot of the time. So where are the others?”
“The others, they’re trying to settle this thing once and for all. They’re trying to break a deal with the Iris.”
“It won’t work” Ash replied in an instant. “It’s like making a deal with Darkrai, I won’t let them”
‘I knew you’d say that’ Mark thought, “That’s why they did it without you.”
“But I have equal.”
“Shut up. Don’t you get it?” Mark shouted, feeling sorry for what was coming to his friend. “Every day, these people work tooth and nail. Hoping that they’d see tomorrow. They just want all of this to end.” He said noticing how oblivious his friend was to the plight of these people, “Isn’t it worth it, to make a deal with Darkrai if we can help all of these people?” he explained as the other Sentinel just diverted his gaze towards the ground.
“It’ll just come back to bite us in the back” Ash muttered.
“What, you just don’t get it” Mark sighed, ‘I’m sorry you’ve sealed your own fate.’, “we’re both Sentinels, have you forgotten what it means?”
All a sudden an alarm went off, as all the beings began to move in a rush, Men, women, and Children grabbing any weapons that they could use. Pokémon and humans all made their way towards the east as the large mechanical turrets sprung into action, with large grinding of gears.
“Let’s go let’s go let’s go” Mark shouted, as he took out a Pokéball and released his own Charizard. The two both got onto their respective Charizards as they lifted off with the sound of explosions filling the air.
The two flew side by side, as Mark and his Charizard took a sudden dip down. Ash wondered why, but found out once he began to hear a loud screeching sound from behind of him, the father turned around to see a bright orange sphere flying behind of him, as he signalled for Charizard to also duck down, just avoiding the shell. After they missed it they watched as it continued on its course, landing in the distance with an earth shattering explosion. As it exploded covering a vast area in destruction.
“Watch out for the shells” Mark spoke as he sped past, without giving a second thought.
‘Could have told me earlier’ Ash pouted as he and his Charizard also sped into action. The fire type went at full speed, flying relatively close to the ground as Ash could see the countless beings: human and Pokémon pass by in one endless blur. Charizard Swerved to the left, slowing down slightly as he reached the area where no man’s land began. Bullets continued to fly from either side endlessly as on the other side, trained Iris soldiers fired, maintaining their formation. And on the other civilians used any weapons that they could in order to save their own way of life.
Charizard took a sharp turn to the right, pointing his head to the troops, and launching a powerful Flamethrower, striking a dozen. Ash could feel the Gravity increase as Charizard took a sharp turn towards the right, and away from the enemy. Ash heard several distinctive pops, as he turned his head to find three rockets closing up behind of them, taking advantage of their severely reduced speed.
“Go, Go, Go” Ash shouted as Charizard took a huge push of its wings, sending the blood to the back of the trainers’ brain. The two were launched at supersonic speeds as they made their way deeper into the heart of the city and near to the sky scrapers. Charizard turned, changing its angle to make dodge, after dodge in the thick concrete jungle. Ash turned around finding the rockets smash into a large building, as it collapsed, begging to fall onto its side, but the trainer couldn’t take in the entire scene as his Pokémon made another sharp turn, almost knocking him off of his sitting position.
Charizard continued as two friendly Pigeots with the same mounts as those that guided them into the city took up supporting positions behind of Ash, as they made a Triangle with Ash leading.
He looked down onto the city streets, finding no individual target to strike as Gunfire, and Elimental Beams were fired in every street. He looked seeing both people and Pokémon use the barriers previously created from the shells of cars in a desperate plea find some cover in this massacre.
As the trainer looked up he found a large Comanche helicopter flying as it shot down the defenders of the city one by one, occasionally firing a rocket whenever a strong Pokémon such as a Steelix, or Tyranitar came into its path. The copter stopped firing and turned its attention to the flying formation that closed in.
It aimed, as it fired two rockets towards the leader of the group.
Seeing the strike Charizard dodged by spinning by the nose, as Ash continued to hold on feeling the G forces tear him off. But the spinning move served its purpose as the rockets just passed Charizard, missing the Fire type by inches. But striking the two Pigeot behind of them as the two birds burst into flames, and crashed into the ground, killing all four lives in an instant.
Charizard remained at a ninety degree angle as it used a Steel wing in order to cut open the under belly of the Comanche, causing a large explosion, as its pieces began to crumble to the concrete earth.
Ash smirked as Charizard continued to fly, around the city, turning itself around in order to reach where the main battle was.
Charizard continued to fly finding the streets mainly deserted, apart from the abundance of dead bodies littering the ground. Bodies of both human and Pokémon.
Charizard continued as it came back into the view of the gym, where the continuous rattle of gunfire grew inside of the ears of the Fire type and its rider. One after another a pop, followed by the large screeching sounds showed the continuous fire of the deadly turrets that protected the gym.
A large illumination occurred in the distance where the shells had exploded, probably killing all forms of life in its range.
Ash began to hear the whirring of engines as he turned his head to see a Raptor fighter jet, following them by the tail, as it gradually closed the distance in between them.
The trainer pulled Charizard up as the jet followed closely behind, maintaining the velocity that its prey had. Charizard continued to pull as it passed going vertically, and began to fly in the opposite direction back to the sky scrapers, upside down.
It spun so that it was flying with its head level, as Ash looked back to find the jet continuing to follow, as it let loose a melee of rockets.
The Pokémon blasted its wings in a burst of strength as it flew for its life, knowing that it was almost impossible to dodge the rockets as the Raptor continued to pursue its prey.
The Pokémon maintained its heading towards the skyscrapers, slowly descending as it went on and the Raptor continued to gain as it let its engines work harder and harder. Growing faster and faster, in order to catch up with its important quarry.
But Charizard exhausted its energy, as it kept its wings flapping, in an order to reach the cover of the skyscrapers before they got hit by the rockets.
Ash kept his head low onto his Pokémon, in order to create less drag, as he could hear his Charizard’s heart thrashing and hammering. As it began to respire hysterically.
Ash looked back, and found that the aircraft was close enough to rip them to shreds, even despite the fact that the rockets were closer, as Ash looked forward once more, and struck inspiration. He squeezed his legs signalling for Charizard to not turn, as it began to head for a sky scraper, not able to turn at the speeds that it was going.
“Flame thrower!” Ash shouted with all the breath in his voice hoping that his Pokémon could hear, from the speeds that they were flying at.
Charizard did hear, due to their close positions as it opened its mouth, and let loose bright orange flames, that began to surround the Pokémon as it grew and grew in speed, allowing the flames to surround, yet not harm it. Due to the extreme velocity, the flames enveloping the Pokémon appeared as if a meteor was flying in the sky as it continued and continued.
Ash began to feel some heat regardless, as unlike his Pokémon he wasn’t a Fire typ. But he continued to hang on as he could see the skyscraper just beyond the inferno, and in an instant it was right in front of him.
The two hurtled into the glass and concrete structure, pushing through it; as the intense blaze melted straight through it, in addition to shelter the two souls that held on for dear life. The rockets crashed into the structure exploding on collision.
The Raptor chose to not take such an extreme course of action as it pulled up, beginning to skim the structure, as it began to collapse in front of it. It struck the plane as the metal underbelly of the craft, began to be stripped apart from the collapsing building.
Ash looked behind as Charizard came to a complete halt in order to catch his breath. Ash saw that the craft had been taken care of but there was still more to do. Charizard leapt into action as it went closer to the Cerulean gym where the main battle was being held.
He grew closer and closer as he found that the guns seemed to stop firing. The deafening explosions stopped. Charizard continued as he still saw a bunch of troops walking around as if everything had stopped. He could tell from how they didn’t walk in formation that they didn’t work for the Iris.
All of the People and Pokémon looked up to the Charizard that flew high up above.
Ash looked down onto their faces, that showed defeat, desperation.
‘What happened?’ Ash thought as the Pokémon began to fire a melee of beams and ranged attacks towards the Fire type.
Charizard in panic began to ascend, in an attempt to maintain the safety of itself and that of its trainer.
The two then heard a large screeching sound as they found two intensely shimmering shells heading in their direction, Charizard ascended once more in an attempt to dodge them. Which it managed to do as its tail felt the strength of the strikes once the shells had just passed underneath of it.
The Pokémon sank slightly as it missed them. They watched, the shells explode directly underneath of them, engulfing all of the Pokémon and their human master, that had fired upon the Sentinel.
As the bright light of the explosion dimmed. It became replaced by the smoke of burning bodies that rose upwards, as the two coughed the smoke in and out of their lungs. The scent of death began to strangle their throats as they couldn’t find a way to escape its grasp.
Suddenly Charizard became struck in the side by another force that caused a burning sensation in its body. A flame thrower?
The Pokémon found that it couldn’t hold itself up in the air any longer, and began t collapse, landing upon the blood covered earth, in a blast of dust and smouldering ash.
Ash opened his eyes as he could feel the smoke making its way inside of them. He closed his eye lids as he rubbed out the stinging pain that the smoke caused in addition to the continuous coughing, as it made its way into his lungs.
He began to feel a fresh gust of wind, as he opened his eyes to find the smoke being blown away.
He looked up and saw another Charizard descend, and land as its rider slowly disembarked off of his mount. In an instant Ash knew who it was.
“What happened?” Ash asked his friend as it was the first thing that came to mind.
“We surrendered.” He replied simply, “No more death, no more war. Everything’s right with the world now.”
“But” Ash began to ask.
“No, no buts. I’m sorry Ash. But there isn’t room in this new world for you. I’m sorry, if only you could accept the new way of life.” He pondered, as his Pokémon continued to blow the smoke away.
It saw Ash’s Charizard slowly get up, as it walked up to the other Fire type, and stamped its foot onto its head to ensure that it stayed down.
“Ash, your family will be looked after. As long as they don’t resist.”
“What have you done?” He shouted, realising the danger that was implied towards the ones that he cared about the most.
”What’s best” The other Sentinel answered simply. In desperation Ash looked for a weapon upon the ground. He saw a gun. That lay in the hands of a dead child, he ducked down in order to retrieve it taking his apparent friend off guard.
The trainer rolled, firing the gun towards his former friend as it exploded in his hand, causing him to fall upon his back.
He held his hand, feeling the intense burn from the misfire, then took a look at Mark, who continued to stand. He looked towards Ash clutching his heart, as he fell over backwards. Adding onto the number of people that lay dead upon the floor.
The trainer turned to Charizard. He saw the fire type, grab the leg of the other as it swung Marks Fire type onto the ground. Ash’s Charizard used its powerful wings to lift itself up. Ash’s Pokémon held its foot onto the other Fire type’s throat, as it began to struggle for air. Ash’s Pokémon then opened its own mouth as it launched a Flamethrower into Marks Pokémon. Launching its flamethrower right into its face, as the rest of its body stopped squirming. And the fire type’s life followed that of its trainer, and was sent to the void that it came from.
“May” Ash thought in an instant, as he turned to his Pokémon as it roasted a member of its own species. “We gotta go. May, and the kids. They need us”
Charizard stopped its flame thrower as it allowed its trainer to mount himself back up onto its back. Once in a stable seating position. Charizard looked around to see the smoke that had been blown away rising once more, as the Pokémon let out a small cough. It crushed the ashes of the bodies that died underneath of it, it surged all of its strength into its wings, and launched itself into the air.
The Pokémon launched itself into the air as it launched itself out of the black smoke, travelling faster and faster, turning south. In the direction of the sun, and of the Orange islands. The direction of a home that needed defending.
Charizard continued to gain altitude as it began to fly higher than some of the largest skyscrapers. Knowing that they would be shot down, and the higher they went the easier, and quicker their journey would be.
As they looked down to a completely different world underneath of them. They didn’t care anymore about the countless families. The men, women, and children.
They just cared about home, and the precious lives that theirs protected.
----
May looked out of the window. She could feel that something was wrong. It wasn’t the first time that she had gotten this feeling. It had come time after time. But at each moment it had been proved to be wrong, or misleading.
Yet it continued to linger as she looked out into the peaceful sky. She was Ash’s wife, she would always wonder. She would wonder whenever Ash would be called to defend the thousands of innocent souls in the world. She would wonder if her husband would come home victorious, and ready to see his children once more. Or if a truck would come up with a letter from his Comrades beginning with the words: ‘We’re sorry’
She began to hear a distant sound.
Not the sound of a roaring Charizard but the sound of tires, making tracks as they ran up the path.
The Mother ran out of the house, as an unfamiliar smell began to fill her nose. As she stepped out of the door, she witnessed a sight that filled her heart with fear.
“Mrs Ketchum, come with us, and you won’t be harmed” a person sad to her. Behind of him Sam and his younger sister were held unconscious by two guards. She looked around to see the entire coral, burning down. As the sounds of crying Pokémon weren’t anywhere to be heard. The fact came to May how they didn’t cry because they were all probably dead. Ash’s stories of horror came flooding into her mind.
“No” she whispered.
“Don’t fight, and we can ensure that you and your kids will be safe.” He said plainly, as the mother only saw one course of action to take.
She got into the back of the truck with her two children on either side of her. Sleeping peacefully. After being forced to by the guards administering a drug to them.
‘Kate, please be safe’ May thought, as the truck began to make its way.
----
Ash continued to fly. He could fee Charizards every breath. Their thoughts were one and the same. They flew as one, aiming for one place. Wanting to protect the same things. The things that they cared about most.
----
May felt as if the truck bumped on a rock or something. She felt a pain as the bump passed. A great stinging pain that struck her in the middle of her heart. Slowly ripping her apart inside.
It made her feel like collapsing and crying onto the floor.
Yet she didn’t know why.
May stayed strong, she wouldn’t waver.
But a piece of her heart had just been ripped out, and she didn’t know why.
----
Ash continued to ride upon Charizard, as he felt the same pain strike him. Through their link Charizard lost his rhythm of flight as the Fire type began to fall, and fall. Ash let tears run out of his eyes as the intense wind passed by him, as he saw the ground coming closer, and closer.
They impacted back into the earth as they continued tearing up the ground as they went on. Slowly dragging on until they came to a complete stop.
Ash lay on the ground as he looked onto the barren landscape.
He couldn’t stand up. The great hero felt like dying right on the spot.
But he couldn’t.
He had to save his family. He had to save them.
But were they still alive?
He looked to his Charizard that also just got over the force of the impact, it was ready to keep on flying. Or at least its body was, the mind of the mighty beast was in the same state as its trainers.
Insecurity, pain, suffering, despair, anguish, agony, anxiety.
They both let tears stream down their faces. But they had to carry on.
They had to.
They looked into the sky, searching.
Wondering if the they would see a sky made out of Diamonds once more.

- For some reason the battle scene at the beginning just didn’t seem to suffice for how I normally write, I don’t know why, it just didn’t seem good enough.
- Just so you know, this isn’t my personal thoughts of how they’ll act as parents, I just thought that they’d not have it so easy, and it carried on from there into this uncontrollable plotline.
- This chapter in all honesty wouldn’t have even been posted on normal circumstances. It just wasn’t good enough. If I didn’t challenge myself, I would have stopped this half way and thrown it into the fail pile. Never to be looked at again. I seriously feel that I’ve failed myself with this...
I’m not even sure about writing the ending of this cause it sucked so much.

By Xaotl Omega, A.K.A. Xaotl

F.Y.I.
