-The fact that I'm actually posting this here may or may not be a good thing. You decide. -Nothing much to say here but it's a sequel of sorts to "Acquaintance Party". Oh, and again there are some parts that are real, while there are some that are thought up. Good luck finding out which is which. XP
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon.
Part 1: Sister Knows Best
They think they've done good for the sake of their friend, but oh, were they wrong. Ash Ketchum has been in a deep funk ever since "that magical night", all because he met the girl of his dreams. And he's got his friends to bla-, I mean, thank, for that.
--At the End of that "Magical Night"--
"Well, Ash," Richie said, braking the convertible right in front of the Ketchums' driveway, "this is your stop. See you tomorrow, of course?"
"Huh? What?" Obviously Ash wasn't listening. He was instead just staring off into the distance, before he realised that they were in front of his house. He lazily jumped out of the car, and said, "Oh, yeah, sure, whatever. See ya."
The other teens watched as Ash disappeared inside his house, then turned to Richie. "What, everyone still blaming me for ruining their moment? Sheesh!"
--
Ash plopped down to his bed. As usual, he was home alone, but he doesn't mind. He went upstairs directly to his room, and after a glance at the clock(2:40 AM), he plopped down to his bed. Without even changing his clothes, he drifted off to sleep.
His sleep, however, was interrupted almost immediately by a late night phone call. 'Ugh, who calls at this time of the night?' He deicided to let the answering machine record it, so he doesn't have to get up from bed.
When he did get to answer it at 9:00 AM, he found out the late night caller was Jeanne, Ash's very own college sister. "Hey, Ash, I was wondering if you could meet me for breakfast tomorrow at Pop's. I want to hear all about your Acquaintance Party."
Ash groaned. "Breakfast? She was expecting me to meet her for breakfast after a late-night party? Some sister, she doesn't even care for my welfare!" He did, grudgingly, accept the breakfast date. After a quick shower, Ash hopped onto his red-and-blue bicycle, and rode it to the college's favorite hangout for teenagers.
The titular proprietor of the fast-food joint, only known to everyone as "Pop's", was quite surprised when Ash walked into his store. "Why, Ash, I wasn't expecting you here so early because of the party."
"Blame it on my sister, Pops. Is she still here?"
"Well, it's about time you arrived," a voice from a far-corner booth piped up. "Being late means you had quite some time at the party, huh?"
"Never mind, Pops." Ash grudgingly trudged over to the booth, where his sister sat.
Jean Ketchum, the older of the two siblings, was a nursing major. She was a graduate of the same school Ash is attending right now, North High. She was the female eyecandy of her time there, catching the hearts of nearly every male, including Brock. As stated before, she's not on friendly terms with her father, but still maintains good contact with her little brother.
"Pops, a round of cheeseburgers here please," Jeanne called. "And the breakfast special for me."
Ash stared at her scornfully. "I hate you," he muttered so that only she can hear. "How am I supposed to return to sleep now after eating all this?" he added, as Pops came to their table with their orders.
"Just go ahead and eat," Jeanne suggested, taking a sip from her cup of coffee. After Ash gave a huge bite into a burger, she asked, "So, how was it? Your first Acquaintance Party?"
"It was fine, for a 'complete waste of my time'."
Jeanne raised an eyebrow, while slicing her eggs. "Oh, really? Well," she added, "meet any special people during the party?" When there was no answer, she grinned. "I thought so. What is she like?"
A nerve twitched in Ash's temple. 'How could sisters be this nosy?!' he thought. "What's it to you anyway?"
"It's just that I want to make sure you end up with the right people. Now, I repeat my question: What's she like?"
Ash grumbled something incoherent before answering. "She's a year younger than I am, and- Er-"
"And?" Jeanne repeated. "And what?" No answer. Jeanne sighed. "You have got to be kidding me. Don't tell me that my own brother, a fan of mystery novels and observationist, doesn't even remember what a girl he met just last night is actually like?!"
More nerves twitch. Ash swallowed an entire burger in one bite. "Don't complicate things sis. It's not like she's anything special." He did turn his face away at the last word, making Jeanne even more suspicious.
"I knew it. My little brother's in love!" the girl declared.
"Sssshhh! Don't say it out- Erk," Ash said.
Jeanne's grin went even wider. "AHA! I knew it!"
"Now I really hate you, sis," Ash muttered under his breath.
--
Thanks to his sister, Ash is now wide awake to return to his house and sleep. After saying goodbye, the older Ketchum headed back to college for her morning class. Ash, meanwhile, still lingered by Pops', which by then was still void of customers thanks to last night. That moment, he began to contemplate on things: Is he really in love?
'Nah, it can't be, can it?' he asked himself. "Sis is just playing with my head, right? Hey, that's got to be it! There's no way I'm in love!"

I knew this looked familiar. Oh well, rereading it isn't a bad thing. I just hope that this can continue, I completely forgot that it was still ongoing.

^I got sidetracked by Megaman Zero, then my new adventure Manhunt, but I'm not making the same mistake long ago when I didn't finish my stories! -Once again, I have to put up that stupid name Disclaimer that was found at the end of movies(credits) and I posted earlier in Acquaintance Party. So here it is:
All names, places, etc., yadda, yadda, yadda, are completely fictitous. If you share the name of some of the characters here, it's all just a coincidence, okay? Got it? Good!
-I wonder if I'll get sued for something or another for mentioning real video games here. XP
Part 2: Ash's First Date? Maybe...
Our hero headed to the nearby cybercafe, which is basically a tradition for him every weekend ever since he moved into town. It is a haven for video game addicts of all ages, and, with the soda shop right next door, it's basically Ash's home away from home.
At the cybercafe, Ash has pretty much earned a name for himself, as the "one who never quits a game until he finishes it". However, this title was put on hold, because of Ash's renewed fondness of multiplayer online games. As he set foot inside, the patrons took one look at him, and began talking to each other in hushed whispers.
The teen ignored the whispers directed at him, and headed to the proprietor. His name was Edel, and he, in fact, was incidentally Pops' younger brother. Like his sibling, edel was quite surprised to find a North high student(although Ash is one of his regulars), largely due to the Acquaintance Party.
"My usual spot, please, Mr. Edel," Ash said, dismissing the question the proprietor threw his way about his early arrival.
Typing into his computer, which is the server of the entire cafe, Edel quickly announced, "Number 7, Ash. And, of course, the usual three hours?"
"Yeah. Thanks." Ash proceeded to PC 7, ignoring the murmurs directed towards him along the way. He logged in, and started playing his favorite, Warcraft: DotA.
Minutes into the game, a new customer arrived at the cafe, though Ash doesn't care about it. The PC right next to him, no. 8, started lighting up, meaning the newcomer selected that spot to use. To his astonishment, the person turned out to be May! And the latter showed mutual surprise at seeing Ash as well.
"Ash?"
"May?" Forgetting that their PC timer is still running, the two youngsters could only stare at each other.
"Hey, you two know each other?" Edel called out to them. "Anyways, both of you'd better snap out of it, time's running you know."
"Sorry!" the two shouted out in unison, causing the proprietor to raise an eyebrow in their direction. They returned to their "business" right after, Ash on with his games, and May logging into the Internet.
"Um, so, how'd you sleep last night?" Ash asked suddenly.
"I slept well," was the girl's reply. "What about you?"
Ash shrugged. "Not so much, all because of a pesky sister..." May managed a small smile of amusement, and, although Ash intended his comment to be sarcastic, couldn't help but feel content for making her laugh.
For some reason he couldn't explain, Ash's player character kept dying on him. Maybe he was a bit too distracted? Because of this, he decided to log out even though only an hour passed of his playthrough. He payed for his rental, and he couldn't explain why, but he didn't leave just yet. May, who only logged in for an hour, son finished her time and joined Ash at the counter to pay her own tab.
"Um, Ash," May quietly said as Edel's cash register ringed for her money. "Care to join me next door for something to eat? It's getting pretty near lunchtime, and-"
"Sure," was Ash's quick reply.
May walked ahead, out of the cafe. Meanwhile, when she was now out of earshot, Edel teasingly told Ash, "It's not exactly a good thing for girls to ask guys on dates, Ash. It should be the other way around..."
"Thanks for the reminder," Ash retorted, before following May. Outside, he found out that she was still waiting for him, without even entering Pops' soda shop yet. Ash clumsily led her inside, "slightly" by the arms even.
Coincidentally, the booth May chose for them was the same on where Ash ate with Jeanne earlier. Ash ordered his usual servings(a plate of cheeseburgers and a side of fries), followed by May's(four large bowls of ramen and noodles); plus "bottomless" shakes for each of them. The two could only gawk at each other at the size of each of their own orders.
"I can't believe you're going to finish all that, Ash."
"Funny, I was about to say the same thing about you..." They both laughed, albeit sheepishly. To clear off his nervousness, Ash hastily bit a large portion of a burger he randomly picked from the top of the pile.
For a few minutes, none of them spoke. Whilst May sipped her ramen, she also curiously watched people come in and out of the shop. Ash, however, watched her, wondering about something. When May did notice this, she asked, "Why are you looking at me like that, Ash? Is there something on my face?"
Ash shook his head, and pointed to May's chopsticks, which she uses to eat her ramen. "I don't think I'll ever understand, or learn, how to use those things," he remarked.
"Oh, it's not that hard. I could teach you, you know..."
"Uh, no thanks," Ash replied, appalled at the thought of someone younger than him giving him lessons, even of any sort of subject.

-As usual, everyone overlooks my fics, and ideas. Part 3: SearchingAsh found himself wanting to spend the whole Saturday afternoon with the girl he met only last night. Half of him told him he would rather spend the rest of his time at Edel's cybercafe, but the other part tells him that he should get to know May better. Likewise, May somehow feels the same way, omitting the former thought, of course. It was at this point that things return to normal, as North High students began filling up Pops' sweet shop. Among them are Ash's friends, Richie, Gary and Misty. Brock was also there, but not as a customer. He was working part-time as Pops' assistant proprietor. May couldn't understand it as Ash led her out of the shop, out of the sight of the latter's friends. "I'll tell you once, don't ask me again," was Ash's answer. "They're not my friends, from my point of view." "Well, the way you guys interacted last night, I would think otherwise," May spoke up. This was only followed by a "Humph" from Ash as they ducked out of sight of everyone and into the college quad nearby. Since the college(which, I will remain unnamed, forever) is like a small city, the quad is much like its city park in comparison. Several college students, who were either studying, eating lunch, or just hanging around, littered around the park-like area. When they passed some female HRM(Hotel and Restaurant Management) students, all heads turned their way, then whispered to each other in excited voices. It was only then that May realised that Ash never let go of her hand ever since they left Pops'; that was what the other students were whispering about. "Um, Ash, you never let go of my hand," she whispered, turning slightly red. "Huh, sorry." Ash suddenly let go, but he turned his back on May. He, too, was red in the face, but he didn't want her to know that. May softly, and uneasily, rubbed the part of her hand where Ash held her. "So, what do we do next?" "I'm not... Exactly sure..." Ash scratched his head, not really sure where to go ahead, literally or not, with this. Once again, it was May who made a suggestion. "Um, I just remembered something. I have to research my project in National history, so I have to go to the library. Do you mind?" Ash cringed. The library is the last place he wanted to go to during a weekend, but he did, however, agree to accompany her. The library is right next to the quad, conveniently and coincidentally. Inside, May checked in her library card to the librarian, and led Ash, by the hand, to the History section. "Maybe, since you're a sophomore, y ou could help me with the subject, Ash," May said. "Not exactly," was the reply. "I came from another school, and transferred to North just when I was starting my second year. I'm pretty sure that subject matter differs between schools." Whilst listening to Ash, May picked a very thick volume out of the shelves, and began leafing through it. The subject she was looking for mustn't have been there, since she put it right back. "I'm not so sure. I also transferred to North High just this year as well. My brother, who transferred alongside me, is a 6th grader, and he was able to pick up some of my study material from that year level." "Huh, so I guess I was wrong." Just then one of the librarians turned in their direction. She put a finger to her lips, muttering the words "Silence please." The two apologised, and May returned to her search. Ash, even though he was told of the material May was looking for, wasn't helping, just standing around, and always shooting glances at his watch. In what seemed like forever to Ash, or thirty minutes from his wristwatch, May finally found the volume she was looking for. The former was hoping, and probably praying, that May would check the book out of the library, ending their trip there. Unfortunately, she didn't, and decided to complete her research right there. More bad news comes to Ash. When the two were just sitting down for May to do her research, guess who just entered the library? Gary and Misty, and they immediately saw the other pair, since they walked right over. While Misty went ahead to take some books out herself, Gary sat right next to a scornful Ash. "What are you two doing here?" the latter male asked in a hiss. "I was about to ask you the same thing," was the silent retort, as Misty returned with a piece on World literature. "Ash, I never thought that, of all places, you would hide here." "I'm not hiding. I'm helping May with her, er, homework, right, May?" "It's my project, Ash, not homework," May whispered, without even looking up from what she's reading. "Please keep it down you guys," Misty added, "or we'll all get thrown out of the library." Ash and Gary kept silent, whilst Misty and May continued on their research. Ash decided to help out May after all, so he won't garner suspicion from Gary and Misty. He started by finding a volume with the similar subject matter as May's, then started reading through it. -- Finally, at 4:00, May was ready to go home. As they stepped out of the building, both boys are now seen carrying written papers on the research that the girls conducted, Ash with May's and Gary with Misty's. "I swear I'll get Brock someday or another for this 'babysitting' job he gave me," Gary said out loud. The material, which consists of charts, maps and excerpts(the latter two were researched off the library's internet access), was anything but light. Even though they were now outside, the librarian from the inside looked scornfully at them before the doors closed. "May, how will you be getting home, by the way?" Misty asked, ignoring Gary's complaints. "I don't see a car around here or Pops'..." "I walked," was May's answer. "I always do on weekends, especially on cool days like today. And I'll just walk right back." This answer provoked Gary and Misty to give Ash shifted looks. The latter got the idea. 'Great,' he thought sarcastically. 'They want me to take her home, again. Anything else?' Ash was about to voice his thoughts when a red convertible similar to the Harrisons' parked right in front of the library and the kids. In the driver's seat is a green-haired boy not older than Ash and co.. He kept glancing at any/all his car mirrors, looking like he's "teen of the year" or something. "There you are," the boy called out to May, without even adressing her companions. "Your dad thought you shouldn't be walking home the way you usually do, so he sent me. Hop in, May." "Right." Turning to Ash, she hastily took her research off his hands, and dropped them to the backseat of the convertible. "I'll be seeing you guys at school Monday, okay?" Before May could even finish her sentence, the car drove off, leaving the trio in a cloud of dust. "Who is that guy?" Gary asked rhetorically. "He acted like we aren't even here!" "Settle down, Gary," Misty calmed him down. "We don't know him, and of course he wouldn't know us. To him, we're just regular students out of the library, nothing else." Gary grunted. "I don't like his cocky looks. What do you think, Ash? Ash?" The other boy wasn't listening. Instead, he was staring after the car, even if it was long gone by now. "Yoo-hoo. Hey, Ash," Gary joked, waving a hand in front of Ash's face. "Earth to Ash. Come in, Ash." "Huh? What-?" "I was asking you about what you think of that guy who picked up May. Kind of cocky, isn't he?" "Y- Yeah, I guess..." What Ash didn't tell his friends what he didn't like the looks of May's friend, either. CONTINUED

Why do you say that Dryuu? For me I've already reviewed these chapters and am currently reviewing the ones posted on ff.net. Besides you are one of our best authors here (the Arceus Awards shoes that one), why would we not care about your fics/ideas?
Besides its funny to read how the filter works here. "wristhingych" was the better of the two, and Gary's little comment at the end got filtered too.

Why would we not care about your fics/ideas? -Not in the fiction, but in the boards in general. I even posted WHICH chapter of WoL that I spent my birthday in, and it, too, was completely ignored. Besides its funny to read how the filter works here. "wristhingych" was the better of the two, and Gary's little comment at the end got filtered too. I've gotta fix that. Part 4: DistanceDuring the entire ride from the library to the Maples' manor, May didn't say anything. Her "driver" noticed this, and asked, "What's up with you, May? You didn't say a thing ever since we left the library." "Sorry, Drew," was May's reply, but she wasn't even listening. She was staring back at the direction of the library, even though they were long out of sight of the building by now. Drew narrowed his eyes. "Those are sophomores I saw you with. Are they causing any trouble you? If they are, then-" "No, Drew. In fact, they helped me finish my research. And, one of them is, well..." Drew didn't like the tone of May's voice when she was slightly talking about Ash. -- "No kidding? He just stood there and did nothing?" This was Gary, calling his friends Brock and Richie in their home, at night. The one who answered the call was the older Harrison, and he was quite surprised that May knew of another guy. "Yup. I doubt he's going to do anything about it. Besides, I'll bet that guy knows May better than we do. Maybe he's even her boyfriend!" "I doubt that Ash would do anything about it, yet," Brock replied. Saturday passed into Sunday, and nothing else uneventful happened. Next thing Ash knew, it's the day that he dreaded the most: Monday. Ash rode Mr. Briney's jeep to school as usual, among other students using his service. Briney found Ash's behavior disturbingly quiet, in contrast to the other passengers, who are all talking noisily inside his jeep. In front of North school gates, Ash was the first to get off. Coincidentally, the Harrisons have just turned in to the school driveway, and parking lot. Gary jumped off even before Brock could actually park, and ran right over to Ash. "Hey, Ash, where've you been?" the brown-haired teen asked his friend. Before waiting for an answer, Gary added, "We haven't seen you since Saturday afternoon. What have you been up to?" "Nothing much." Ash isn't paying much attention, even though everyone else appeared, all riding in Brock and Richie's car as well. One, they're going to be late for first period; and, two, Ash doesn't feel like talking right now. Without even saying anything, the absentminded teen turned towards the school, not even waiting for anyone. -- North School is composed of three interconnected buildings, over an expansive grassy field. The one-floor building to the north of the area is the cafeteria; directly opposite it is the two-story Elementary(and Preschool) Department, with the school gates in between. Standing next to the latter building is the 3-story high School Department, with a short "bridge" connecting to the former right next to the flagpole. The large school auditorium takes up space to the east of the high school department. Since North School is a private school, the auditorium houses many facilities catering to many sports: basketball, softball, soccer, and even swimming. All the year levels, from pre-school to seniors, in the school are divided into two sections each. Ash, Gary, Misty, and Richie, all in the second year/sophomores, were divided into the two sections, with the former and latter pairings. Ash entered his classroom, thinking that the worst is over. However, that was not the case. Upon his entry, his classmates who are already there took one look at him and started talking in whispers. Ash ignored their stares and walked to a seat at the corner of the classroom, even though there was already a fixed seating arrangement. The whispers persisted even when their homeroom teacher, Professor Elm, arrived. The latter was used to this kind of, er, disrespect, from his students. However, even though he tolerates their behavior, it's become a sort of running gag that he oftentimes wishes that he should have chosen his family's business of real estate. -- First period passed into second, then everyone's favorite "subject": recess. Still nothing interesting there. Fourth period arrives, and then the fifth, and finally the second favorite subject arrives: lunchtime. Ash wanted to have lunch by himself, in the shade of the oak tree at the far-east corner of the school, right next to the soccer field. But, Brock wouldn't have any of it, insisting that Ash eat with him and his friends this time. Grudgingly, the loner joined his so-called friends at the cafeteria for lunch. They chose one of the larger, rectangular tables and Ash, as per his nature, chose the corner farthest from the others as much as possible. There was no objection from the others about this, however. Ash ate his lunch in silence. He ignored the buzz flying around the cafeteria, which, unbeknowst or maybe not, to him, is all about him! What's sure is that Brock knew about the rumor running around the entire school, and it seems that Gary and the others do as well. "Hey, Ash," Gary whispered, but Ash is too "far away" to hear him. "Ash," Gary repeated, only louder, but still no answer. The latter was getting frustrated. He edged closer, and stomped on Ash's foot. "YEOWCH!" Upon impulse, Ash stood up, clutching his toes, nearly knocking the tray of food from someone passing by behind him. Gary slapped his own head in disbelief, while everyone stared. "Sorry, it's just that I-" Ash quickly turned around to apologize, but the person turned out to be May! "Er, May, I-" he started to say. By this time the commotion Ash made had caught the attention of everyone, even those who were eating outside the cafeteria! May rubbed herself in the shoulders, getting nervous from the stares everyone is giving her and Ash. The latter, however, was a little irritated at such, especially when May might get ridiculed because of him. "Um, May, why don't you join me-" This was followed by a simultaneous clearing of the throats by Gary and the others. Ash gritted his teeth at their response, but he continued. "-I mean, US," he said with a tone of sarcasm at the last word, "here at the table?" May didn't look Ash in the eyes as she gave her answer. "Sorry, Ash. I'd like to join you, but I have to meet my friends." "Oh, okay," Ash said. He tried to hide his disappointment as he sat back down and could only watch as May went outside, still carrying her tray of food. "Not another word," he muttered to Richie, who was about to say something. CONTINUED

The depressive Ash chapter. Just goes to show you how much he's actually fallen for her. Not in the fiction, but in the boards in general. I even posted WHICH chapter of WoL that I spent my birthday in, and it, too, was completely ignored. Well I didn't respond to it after you said it here simply because of the length that it was since your birthday. I thought that I apologized for missing it. Oh well even if I didn't, sorry about missing it and happy belated birthday. I'm still surprized that I missed it in the chapters. But looking back I now see why I missed it. I must not have actually went to your profile after reading everything that chapter. I most likely got caught up with the rest of the chapter that I forgot to look at the reason that it was supposed to be a special chapter. Again I'm sorry for missing that, but it was a more subtle mentioning at the beginning of the chapter. You might have gotten more people responding if it was at the end. But it was still my fault on that part, not yours. There's nothing you can do, its an automatic filter that will change anything that has a specific letter order in it. The song that I gave for the soundtrack needed to be modified slightly so that the filter wouldn't touch it.

-Dang, I've been so busy formulating the plot of my new adventure fic that I almost forgot about this one! Don't worry, I'm finally going through with this story until the end!
Part 5: Starting Over
Thisty minutes of lunch period was spent, giving the students another hour of relaxation(afternoon classes begin at 1:30 PM). Students, primary and secondary, are seen littered around the school field.
Ash lingered around the soccer field, of which is his favorite sport. He dribbled the ball around the grassy field, then delivered a powerful side kick to it, straight to the netless(nets are only installed during games) goal. It missed. Hey, Ash wasn't exactly a whiz at that time since he just started, okay? (And, chronologically, so was I back then.)
Coach Lt.(he always wanted to be addressed as his rank) Surge approached from his office behind the auditorium. He watched from the sidelines as Ash continued to dribble around the soccer field again.
When Ash decided to take a break did the coach approach. "That was quite a kick you have there," Surge commented. "Tell me, why didn't you try out for varsity last week?"
"I'm not a good player then, Coach," was Ash's reply. "And I'm not a very good player still."
"Nonsense. Anyway, you're right, and it is a little too late. However, maybe next year you should really try out." The "Coach Lieutenant returned to his office, leaving Ash to himself.
'Yeah, maybe next year,' Ash thought, his right foot resting on the ball.
"Hi, Ash."
"EEP!" The latter was so startled that he nearly jumped. The newcomer was May, who was watching earlier from the cafeteria's hut extension, which was also adjacent to the soccer field.
"Um, sorry if I startled you," May continued, albeit uneasily.
Ash turned around to face her, almost clumsily slipping on the ball underneath his foot. Embarassed, the youth tried getting up, and was even more embarassed when May tried offering her hand to help him. "Thanks," he mumbled, "but no thanks." Ash did manage to get up by himself. He didn't notice that May was looking at him curiously as he brushed dirt off his own clothes.
"Are you alright?" the girl asked, a little worried that Ash may have scratched himself.
"I'm fine," Ash assured her, as he continued brushing himself. "Really, I am."
"Oh, okay." May looked away, rubbing her shoulders in a nervous stupor. "I've seen you running around the field for a while now. Aren't you tired?"
'What's with her and these questions?' "I told you, I'm fine." However, deep inside Ash felt like he would scream at himself, since he thinks what he said was a wee bit rude.
"Well, I was going to ask you to join me and my friends at the Hut, but, I guess you want to be alone." May walked away, leaving Ash ready to tear at himself again. But, it was too late, and Ash could only watch as May returned to her friends.
"I hate me," Ash muttered, and angrily kicked the soccer ball towards the goal again. It hit the steel border instead, and bounced hard, back at Ash! The teen tried dodging the ball, and the worst he got out of it was being grazed in the right arm. "Agh!" he shouted, grasping the part where the ball hit him.
May, who turned back to see the source of the scream, quickly ran over to Ash's side. "Ash, are you okay?" she asked for the third time.
Ash was grabbing the part of his arm where the ball hit him, wincing. At this point, he has caught the attention of everyone within twenty feet of him. Ash winced even more, and tried to get up. Giving the other students around him, who were staring back at him, a cold shoulder, Ash made his way to the clinic, located in the ground floor, between the Elementary and High School Departments.
"A simple scrape, that's all," Nurse Joy said, tying up Ash's arm in a bandage. "Nothing for you to worry about." Her voice wasn't directed to Ash, but instead to May, who accompanied Ash to the clinic.
"That's a relief," May said, but Ash felt completely otherwise; he was downright miserable.
Nurse Joy, being someone who can sense "certain things", said out loud, "Hm, looks like I'm out of medical supplies. I'd better go get some more from the stock room. I won't be gone, long..."
This left May and Ash alone in the clinic. May stood by the door, unable to say anything. Ash, meanwhile, tried avoiding looking at her, with little results.
At that moment, however, they were saved from further embarrassment when Brock rushed in. "Nurse Joy! What happened? Is he okay? I'm ready to give out my contact number and- OWW!" Someone pulled him from back outside by the ear, prompting the shout of agony.
"The only number you'll be needing is 911, when I get over with you, if you know what I mean," Misty said. Being accustomed to her boyfriend's womanizing, pulling his ear has sort of become a habit of hers.
Aside from Brock and Misty, the rest of "Ash's friends" filed inside. From the looks on their faces, Ash could tell that them seeing Ash and May alone in the clinic they felt like they interrupted something. The room is now filled with an eerie silence.
"Lunchtime is almost over," Ash said, breaking the silence. He stood up, holding his bandaged arm like it was made of glass. "I'd better head back to class." He passed between Richie and Brock, who was still massaging his sore ear. "See you later, May," he added, without even turning to face her.

-The person Lt. Surge is portraying is also a war veteran(also the school CAT commander, and, strangely, Home Economics teacher.)
-Not much, but I promise to pick up the slack. I plan on finishing all my stories this time!

Part 6: Suspicious
Ash's shoulder injury was in no means a hindrance to the boy, like it was anything to be worrysome about. He carried on his school life, but even after the wound healed, he kept the bandages around it, as a sign of something he doesn't even understand just yet.
Richie, however, said, one day while looking at the bandage, "Just to make himself look cool, I'll bet..."
However, the real reason Ash kept the bandage on, was to remind him(painfully) of his treatment to May that day. In other words, it will keep reminding him not to do the same stupid mistake again. However, he never even got a chance, since May seems to be avoiding him from then on.
Much to Ash's surprise, and shock, three weeks after the Acquaintance Party, was the start of the first of the school periodic exams. According to Brock, the reason it was early is because there were three periodic exams, as opposed to only two from the school Ash was from.
"It's to keep us on our toes with education," Brock told him one recess, "or so the principal kept saying."
"Hah, that's reassuring," Ash said with the heaviest of irony and sarcasm he can muster.
Nevertheless, complain about it as much as he can, Ash still couldn't help it. The exams are still on the way, and to Ash, it means wasting so many hours that he should be using at Edel's arcade.
This posed more of a problem for Ash's "friends" than the latter. Since it would be quite a chore, them having to keep an eye on him to make him study. This was done by study groups, alternating between Misty's, and Brock's and Richie's as their base. It as logical, since their houses are the largest.
On the first night of the study group, on Tuesday, after Ash's soccer accident, he wasn't trying very hard to concentrate. This was, quite obviously, largely thanks for guilt to his treatment of May.
"Get over it," Misty said. "May's a nice girl, she's bound to forgive you."
"Yeah, and you can build up your relationship from there," Brock added. then, he added, dreamily, "And then I can get points with your sister for helping you and-"
"Points in your grades are what matters here, casanova," Misty retorted, pulling at his ear again.
---
May, being one of the top students of her class(or so what Ash heard from other Freshies) was too busy in studying. So he doesn't find it strange not to run into her on occasion, anymore. However, this didn't bother him one bit; whether he was busy himself, or he couldn't bring himself to facing May, who knows; no one can really tell, or care.
However, one time in the afternoon, during dismissal, when Ash was applying for his 1ST library card, he accidentally ran into someone, who was carrying a large pile of books. When the two collided, the pile toppled to the floor, revealing May.
"Ack! Sorry!" Ash exclaimed, which prompted the school librarian, Ms. Fench, to hiss a "Sssh!" at him. "Sorry, May," he said, in a lower voice, as May knelt down to pick up the fallen books. Ash also stooped to help.
Moments later, the pile of books weren't in May's hands, but in Ash's. He doesn't show it, but they are in fact quite heavy.
"Sorry about that Ash," May said, looking at the effort the latter was exerting. "I should have borrowed a trolley to take it to the parking lot."
"I'm the one who should be sorry. I bumped into you, and the noise I caused made the librarian throw us out," Ash spoke up. He looked at the pile he was carrying. "I know exams are due for a week, but don't you think you're overdoing it?"
"Well, I don't want to fall back on my grades, do I?" May retorted, although she was being friendly.
Ash shrugged, and shifted his weight a little to ease the lift of the books. After another minute of walking, Ash asked, "Don't tell me you're going to take all these all the way to the jeep stop?"
"No, Drew will be waiting for me at the parking lot."
"Oh." Ash felt, and looked, like something inside him stung, really, really hard. Passing the school guard's station and office, Ash caught sight of Drew. From May's angle she didn't quite see him yet, but Ash did, and saw something else.
Drew was talking animatedly, almost TOO friendly, perhaps, to another female student. Ash scowled in their direction, as well as at the smile Drew is giving the girl. Unfortunately, May wasn't able to see the girl, as Drew and the other girl promptly gave a friendly farewell.
"Well, it's about time you got here," Drew said out loud. "And I see why,and what, held you up..." He fixed Ash with a stare the latter didn't quite like.
"Sorry," May said timidly. She turned to Ash. "Thanks for helping me with my books, Ash. Drew'll take it from here."
Ash could tell that the latter was hesitant from taking the books from Ash himself, but didn't show it. Ash turned to leave, but May said, to his back, "Thank you, Ash..."
"Yeah, sure, whatever," Ash said, without even turning around. At the same time, he felt like he wanted to hit himself, again, for that comment.
Ash watched as May and Drew drove by in the latter's car. Deep inside he was wincing, quite ashamed of himself. But he can't help thinking maybe Drew has something more to be ashamed of.

-Yeah, my Ex was the valedictorian of her batch. And no, she wasn't exactly described as a stereotypical nerdy bookworm, considering her looks.
-I really make Drew sound bad here, don't I?
-Ash's last line is my catchphrase during high school years. Actually, it still is.

Looks like Drew's a player... This is not good... Anyway, great chapter.
