Heracross is a very dangerous Pokemon in competitive circles. All types have at least one Pokemon that can be considered difficult, useful or fearsome.

Yeah, slap a Choice Scarf on it, and Hera's pretty much unstoppable. Unless it's against a Gliscor of course...
But seriously, two 120 base power STAB attacks, and a great movepool, coupled with a monsterous Attack stat, makes Heracross a force to be reckoned with.
He's the one of the main reasons I was considering puttin Bug as my type, along with Yanmega.

What about Scizor?

Scizor is a decent offensive wall, but Fire type Special Attacks will rip it to shreds. With its poor speed and average Special Defense stat, it will have a lot of trouble with fire attacks.

Actually a decent physical Fire attack would still have a good chance of KOing it it you didn't put any EVs into Def. The combination of lower speed and the Double weakness don't really bode well in his favor.
To make him more useful you would need to increase his speed with BP or something. If you can make him faster, then it would make him more useful because you can U-Turn out before they try something.

Well, Fire is Scizor's only weakness, but it can get Agility and Swords Dance, as well as the great Technician ability. It is in the OverUsed tier after all.

Don't forget that, like scizor, heracross has a double weakness to flying type too.
I am sure that MOST flying type pokemon have a great speed stat too, so heracross could be in potential trouble when facing a flying type.

I think most of you are missing the point of "Zerging". Cheap, weak, and plentiful. Not weak because they suck like in gen. 1, but because they are lv. 25 at a lv. 40 something gym, and with a cpu, pretty weak. I realize a team of bugs isn't the death sentence it was in gen. 1.
Praetor was probably the only one who got that... the Zerg comment, I mean.

Heracross is pretty beefy, if it's equipped with a focus sash and Stone Edge, it could wreck some flying types. Gliscor would annihilate Heracross with little effort, as would Skarmory and Staraptor to name a couple.

Praetor was probably the only one who got that... the Zerg comment, I mean. Two things. If its a lvl 40 gym I'm usually busting through it with lvl 45-50 so the Jr. Trainers bugs would just be like flies hitting the windshield. In the game it would make me lose PP at most. And why would Praetor be the only one who got the Zergling reference? Sure they are cheap and weak, but with the right knowledge they are easy kills. Personally I prefer mass Hydralisk when using Zerg. But besides that its easy to see where you are coming from, especially if you are going by anime battle standards (but then again if it was that then there would be no Jr. Trainers).

Heracross gets his @$$ kicked by my Scizor with one Aerial Ace. Sorry but he's little of a threat to Scizor.
Which backs my understanding that Scizor is a better choice than Heracross.
Damage Chart for Heracross: 4X Resistance: None 2X resistance: Grass, Bug, Ground, Fight, Dark 1x Damage: Normal, water, electric, Ice, Poison, Rock, Ghost, water, steel 2X Damage: Psychic, Fire 4X Damage: Flying No Damage: None
Scizor damage chart: 4X Resistance: Grass 2X Resistance: Normal, Ice, Psychic, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel 1X Damage: Water, Electric, Fight, Ground, flying, rock. 2X Damage: None 4X Damage: Fire No Damage: Poison
Now Max Stats: HP: Heracross wins by 20 Attack: Scizor wins by 10 Defense: Scizor wins by 50 Speed: Heracross wins by 40 Sp. ATK: Scizor wins by 30 Sp. DEF: Heracross wins by 30
So max stats is a tie, since Scizor wins due to the Weakness and Resistance chart.
Any objections?

^ I don't think that was the whole point... It wasn't a Heracross versus Scizor discussion...
It was simply to say how useful Heracross was as a team member.

My final post about this Hera/Scizor thing is this:
Does Scizor have two 120 base power STAB moves?
Thought not ;D
