I'm just going to write something briefly here. It's about the difference between a 'one-sided pairing' and a 'mutual pairing'. There is a distinction to be made between the two, and I think it is very relevant to the issue of shippings.
A one-sided pairing is pretty simple. It's where one of the two people have feelings for the other, but there is no indication of them being returned. This should be obvious: one person having feelings doesn't at all imply the other will return them.
A mutual pairing is where both people have shown signs of liking one another in a romantic sort of way. A pairing involves two people, so you can't let just one be a factor in your arguments. Where am I going with this?
I am thinking of Pokeshipping in particular. It seems like the bulk of the arguments for this shipping relate to Misty: the 2nd movie, her song in the old soundtrack, the episode in the orange islands where that gym leader liked her, the one where she said 'he isn't like anyone I've ever met' or something to that effect. All of them involve only Misty. This is not evidence of a 'mutual pairing', only of a 'one-sided pairing'. Again: one person having feelings doesn't mean the other will return them. In fact, I would say several strong points of a one-sided pairing are still trumped by a single reasoned point supporting mutuality.
What evidence is there of Advanceshipping being mutual? I think I need only point to the hints section for people to see references to movies, the show, and a season where Dawn is now the primary female lead yet there are still hints. I'm sure someone could find some for Pokeshipping if they tried, but the number and the context of them are what define how much stock we should put in them.
In closing: HOT EMERALD OUTFIT IS HOT.

Dude... God, you are just perhaps one of the greatest debaters on the board. If you had a Seribii account, you would be just the thing we need there. I bet you could even out-debate Cybercubed at the rate you're going at. First the NarutoxShizune argument, and now this. I'm impressed...

Thanks! My ego has now grown in size This might sound odd, but I've never been to serebii or their forums (though I've heard about them here and there) Though, I joined a Pokemon community on livejournal that I think may have been made by them...

(in cuss words) ahem. Pokeshippers have NO evidence of Ash having any feelings back other than missing all of his friends, and he won't forget them in the japanese BF opening. (this would also include birch, tracy, delia, and oak.) So, yes, I totally agree with Pokeshipping as being "one-sided." Another (mostly) one-sided ship is Abilityshipping, but since Anabel was not featured for so long, you really can't tell. Advanceshipping and Contestshipping are probably the most famous (and most popular) "mutual shippings." Obviously, May does at least like Drew just a smigen (ducks behind my bunker) and it's moderately obvious that Drew was a sort of (gulp) affection toward May, POSSIBLY. The same goes for Advanceshipping, but with Ash and May as more recurring main characters, you can see why there is such a scramble. But that doesn't mean that CS's are still battling for ground. plus, we have DP on our side. (unless you count Harley and Drew watching May do that contest a CS hint.) Oh, and Nadir? EMERALD CLOTHES WERE HOT. lolz.

I agree that as far as competitors to Advanceshipping goes, Contestshipping is the more likely rival. I can also agree that Drew may like May, and that she might even like him a little back. I don't really care for Drew, but I won't let that color my opinions on the plausibility of their pairing. (The series should throw Drew and Misty together )

I'm not all that big on Drew. It's like they're making too big of a deal from a character that dosn't make much of a impact on the series.
I'm too comfortable with Advance to even think about other ships. I'm not in the mood, but just to say Pokeshippers have had the 'lure' bieing mentioned as a hint. and contestshippers continue to use the BF saga.

They have the lure. Which is really one sided in my opinion. We have the ribbon, two halves of one whole.

Oh, god. No. NEVER allow my Gary to get tainted by that beast of a red head. He deserves a much better woman than HER. ;O [/spasm]
But, yeah, anyways. Do carry on. >.>;;

^ Oh brother.... Misty should be with Tracey. I've seen hints of that but Misty is probably more interested in Ash. I wouldn't be surprised if they make an episode of her revealing her feelings to him someday.
and did my eyes decieve me or did I read a debate over NarutoxShizune?

Well, if Misty were paired up with Drew (incredibly unlikely, but it would be awesome in my book), Misty would be well away from Ash, and Drew would steer clear of May, leaving our favorite pair free to run the homestretch. Two birds, one stone. ;D

^^ Agreed. The Blue Badge of Courage is enough to support it. I've read some Orange Island Ships and come to think of it, the pairing's actually quite cute.

I never really liked Misty that much anyway. I don't see what's so great about her...
Though if I have to pair her with someone, it'd be Tracey. I think it works a lot better than any other pairing.
