I should have put it up yesterday, but I didn't have access to a computer until now. Honor your national heroes here. My country's national hero is Dr. Jose P. Rizal, born June 19, 1861(the reason why I should have put it yesterday) and executed December 31, 1896. Through his two novels, the Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, he was able to unite the Filipinos against the oppressive Spaniard colonists. He is also famous for coining this proverb: "Ang Kabataan ang kinabukasan ng ating bayan."(Youth are the future of our country)

I'm ashamed that I didn't put this up myself. Jose Rizal is a hero, and the inspiration of the Philippine revolution. Rizal may have united the people of the Philippines to revolt, but he was still a pacifist. He also spurned the ideas of the current leader of the revolution, Andres Bonifacio, at the time he(Rizal) was still alive knowing that the Filipinos are still unprepared for war.

Did you guys just have a holiday about him or something?
From the what I can surmise from Ryu's first sentence, it sounds like I'm right.

June 19 is Rizal's birthday, and a national holiday here in the Philippines. To make matters for me worse, it's also the date for Laguna Day/Festival, my and CJ's home province. Whether the two holidays are coincidental(considering Rizal's hometown is also in Laguna) or not is beyond me; I'm no history buff.

How is it bad that two holidays are celebrated at once? You're being sarcastic, I hope.
We celebrate several holidays about famous people in American history.
Presidents day -- The day that celebrates birthday of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's birthday -- two very famous and important leaders. Takes place on February 3.
Martin Luther King Junior day -- It celebrates the birthday of a famous civil rights activist -- Martin Luther King Junior. He fought for rights for all colored people in the U.S.

I'm not sure, because I never asked why there is a Laguna Day, having transferred from Manila when I entered high school. But I really think it's just a coincidence that Rizal Day and Laguna Day are of the same date.
