‘Excuse me, is this the Maple residence? I have a package for a Miss May Maple!’ A deliveryman called out at the front door of a large house.
A young girl with long brown hair and sapphire blue eyes answered the door. Her hair had long bangs on either side of her head and she wore an orange and black dress with black, lycra shorts. An emerald bandana was tied around her neck.
‘Hello! I'm May Maple!’ The girl chirped out happily as she answered the door.
‘Great! It’s pretty heavy!’ The deliveryman said.
‘You can just place it there!’ May replied.
The deliveryman plonked the box at the entrance and held out a clipboard. ‘I’ll need you to stamp this with your family seal.’ He said.
‘Oh right! I’ll go get it! Hang on a sec!’ May said as she dashed off into another room.
‘Hey! Has anyone seen the family seal?’ She asked.
‘It’s in the kitchen, dummy!’ Another voice said gruffly.
Another girl, identical to May walked out of the same room, just at the moment May left. She looked a little less friendly and wore a small strip across the bridge of her nose; she also sounded a little rougher than the other girl. This took the deliveryman by surprise, as she had the same long brown hair, same bangs; same blue eyes, even the same orange dress and black shorts.
‘Oh! They must be twins!’ The deliveryman said nervously.
‘I believe I saw it in the living room!’ Another girl said. This one walked down the hallway reading a book. Again, she was identical to the first two girls, only this time she wore glasses and spoke rather softly and eloquently.
‘T-triplets?!’ The deliveryman stuttered in shock.
‘Nuh-uh! I was in there a minute ago and I don’t remember seeing it there!’ A fourth girl said shyly, she was identical to the first three. She popped her head out of another room; she had pink ribbons tied in her bangs and a Torchic plushie in her hands.
‘Whaaaa?!’ The deliveryman’s jaw widened.
‘Relax you guys… You need to stress less; it’s just a Seal…’ A fifth identical girl appeared. She had a dazed and confused look on her face. She wore flower hairpins on either side of her head. She suddenly drifted off and halted mid sentence, before saying, ‘It’d be cool to be a Seel, swimming in the ocean.’ She walked off in a daydream.
‘I found it!’ Another voice called out from a door to the deliveryman’s left, it was a very sultry and charming voice, but otherwise was no different to the other voices in the house.
‘I-it can’t be…’ The deliveryman said; he was sweating bullets.
It was yet another identical girl, same brown hair, same bangs, same blue eyes and the same orange dress. Only this one didn’t seem to wear any shorts. She bent over to stamp the family seal on the clipboard. The deliveryman could see her panties; they had a Beautifly pattern on them. The girl turned around and winked. ‘Oh my! I’m so sorry about that!’
She stood up and placed her hands on her hips, ‘Well thank you for carrying that here with your big strong arms.’ She said with a smile.
‘Err…I’m outta here!’ The deliveryman screamed as he ran to his truck out front.
He quickly strapped himself in and pressed his head against the steering wheel. ‘I must be going crazy…yeah…I just need a vacation or something.’
‘Hello Mr. Deliveryman!’ Another voice called to him. He looked up and saw yet another girl. This made seven, seven identical girls. This one waved and smiled at him. He screamed and pressed his foot down hard on the accelerator, and drove off at top speed.
‘…Well that was weird. I wonder why he went all funny when he saw me.’ May asked herself. The realised something, ‘Oh no! Don’t tell me!’
She ran straight for the house and opened the front door, inside there was six other girls identical to her pulling things out of the package. One of the girls, with the bandana around her neck, was eating some snacks found in the box, another with the strip over her nose was checking out a video game cover, the one with glasses was checking out a manga, the one with the pink ribbons blushed whilst cuddling a new Glaceon plushie, the flirtatious one that didn’t wear shorts was admiring a new dress that was in the box and the one with hairpins seemed more interested in the bubble wrap than any of the actual items.
‘You six are in big trouble!!’ May yelled.
‘Oh hey May!’ The six other girls said at the same time.
‘Check it out! We got some super cool stuff!’ The happy one with the bandana said.
‘And we appear to have received a letter as well.’ The one with glasses added, tossing the letter to May.
‘Please don’t tell me the deliveryman saw you all at once!’ May said with an unhappy tone.
‘Fine…we won’t tell ya.’ The one with the strip over her nose said bluntly. The six girls moved into the living room with all of their new stuff. Leaving May with alone in the entrance with the letter in her hand. She sighed and sat in the living room. She opened the letter, it read:
‘Dearest May, I hope this letter finds you in good health. Your father and I have been so busy working here overseas, so we apologise for not sending this letter sooner. Max has adjusted well to life here and is enjoying his new school. Hope school is going well for you, the only reason you’re not here with us is because you wanted to study to get into a good high school back home. I certainly hope you’ve been behaving and studying hard, as well as looking after yourself. Remember you’re our only daughter! Love Mom and Dad.’
‘Sorry Mom and Dad…But…you don’t have an only daughter anymore!’ May cried as she sat in the living room. The six other girls had lumped themselves collectively on the larger sofa opposite her.
‘It’s not our fault we’re now seven girls instead of one!’ The one with the ribbons said sadly.
'Look on the bright side!' The one with the bandana said happily, 'We've always wondered what it'd be like to be a twin!'
‘Another thing! Why are you all lumped there together on the couch!?’ May asked them.
‘Well it’s not like we have anywhere else to go…’ The tough one with the nose strip said.
‘Yeah, you told us not to go outside!’ The fashionable one with no shorts added.
'So all we can do is stay here.' The dreaming one with hairpins said.
‘Well you can’t just laze around the house all day! There are chores to be done too!’ May said.
‘That reminds me…’ The one with glasses began, ‘Do you not have homework to do tonight?’
‘Uh…!’ May said awkwardly. The six other girls pounced on her and carried her upstairs to their bedroom. ‘This won’t do at all! You have to study hard so we can go to same high school as him!’ They said in unison.
They plonked May onto the chair at their desk. Two of them gathered the textbooks. One grabbed a desk lamp, another grabbed pencils and erasers; another tied a study bandana to put over her head. The last one kissed her on the forehead for luck.
‘Good luck with the study! We’ll be downstairs!’ They all said as they left.
May sighed as she sat at her desk.
‘My name is May Maple. I have to be the unluckiest Junior High student in the entire world. My problems were already pretty bad with studying, getting the courage to tell a boy that I like him and living alone at home without Mom or Dad. But my problems got multiplied, by seven! And if you’re wondering, no, we’re not septuplets! We’re not even sisters! We’re in fact, all the same person! Only two people know of our secret, Professor Oak who lives next door and our best friend Dawn. It wasn’t always like this. Our problem first began on Valentines’ Day…’
