"Grandpa please dont die!
"I have to die don't you guys worry about me I'm going to a better place."
"but dad the last episode of Pokemon is tomorrow!
"What!!? You got to be kidding me!"
"Yeah grandpa they are going to show who got married with who tomorrow! Please dont die!
"Damn you cruel world!!" (I go limp as the sound of a machine stops beeping and makes a constant sound. I'm now in heaven somewhere kicking Satoshi's ass.)

Wait, I looked at the quote, and it's actually more geared towards the characters. Why? When Mr. Hidaka references to, "the boys," he means Ash and Brock. So, all he wants to do is keep their personalities refreshed.

I hadn't noticed that before because I thought "boys" meant the fanboys, but now that you mention it, it makes some sense. I think he should have said "boy" because the girls never appealed to Brock as eye-candy, certainly not Dawn.

Wait what you guys are saying is they are eye candy for the clueless Ash?
.............................
I'm confused if all this is for the lucky bastard why don't they have Ash make a move already.....

.................
I'm a little more than certain that he meant fanboys. I mean, come on...
In fact, the regarding of them as 'eye candy' isn't all that surprising to me. It only bothered me in the sense that it was made to sound like that's all that they're there for, and that their respective character development wasn't as important as Ash's.
But again, I seriously doubt he was referring to Ash or Brock >.>

I suppose the reinterpretation of the quote does make a bit of sense... But yes, I'm with timoteyo7 and cascade88 on this one. Ash + eye candy != useful combination. It really does defeat the purpose of it all if he doesn't acknowledge it.
Which is why my hunch is that Hidaka was referencing the male audience over the characters. However, I'm still considering the character-referencing option a plausible possibility. I just find the other more likely.

yeah I think he was talking about fanboys if all this was for Ash and Brock I don't see any reaction from those two.... and Ash would probably be deemed a perv if he thought of them as eye candy. Ash acts like he has no hormones whatsoever which is kinda unrealstic since he's going through puberty (I think)

This was the question.
This was the answer:
If you simply stare at the question and then the answer, it would seem that the boys he was talking about are Ash and Brock.
But here is an interesting question. How big is the difference between the dub and the original Japanese script? LuciferIX said Pokemon was also for mid-teens too, in Japan, so the script and dialogue might be more mature, and the characters might have even a subtle response in the dialogue. In that case, then it makes sense that the writers could have "eye-candy" as part of a reason for changing characters.

...he was not talking about Ash and Brock.

You're very adamant about that Miranda, lol.
I think that its actually a bit in between. Each new girl would be 'eye-candy" for Ash and Brock, its just that they just don't notice them for various and obvious reasons. But it is also for the male watchers to slightly ogle.
Either way it can easily be taken both ways. You just have to look at everything that can be inferred from it.

I don't know...... the script may be different but what about reactions? (Blushing, etc) It still doesn't make sense to me... why give them "eye candy" when the writers don't even have Ash and Brock aknowledge it. This is all to confusing to me...

^ I did say subtle differences; small references that may not cause blushing, etc.

And maybe they mean eye candy not in the original sense of the word. Like I said, maybe they're introduced to freshen up the character's personality.
