-This fic has absolutely nothing to do with my other Megaman fanfics. The events of this fic happens between an undisclosed time between post-Zero and pre-ZX. That way, Ciel's age will remain ambigious (sp?).
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Megaman Zero, ZX, or its characters.

A long time has passed since the mad dictator and war criminal Dr. Weil attempted, and was fortunately stopped once and for all, to destroy Area Zero, the last location of nature on Earth. Now, nature begins to spread around Area Zero, essentially healing the once-barren Earth.
With the destruction of Weil's Ragnarok space station, the centuries-long enmity between the two races, human and Reploid, has finally dissolved. True peace is finally achieved. However, the price is heavy, as the hero who made it all possible, the legendary Maverick Hunter Zero, dies onboard Ragnarok, fighting the mad Dr. Weil, as the station exploded. After this deed, he is forever engraved in everyone's hearts as a true hero. No one will ever forget the sacrifice Zero made for the good of the world. No one...
Even when Ragnarok exploded, pieces of it fell through the atmosphere, into the ground below. A small expedition of scientists set out to find these pieces. There are different reasons for this expedition, but the one most prominent motive was that from the leader, Dr. Ciel. She hopes to find proof that will either prove or disprove the death of the hero who died on Ragnarok. Unfortunately, the very first findings in their expedition was, in fact, proof of Zero's death.
It was in the middle of a crater created by one of Ragnarok's remains found by the group. Amongst all the debris, Dr. Ciel saw the shattered remains of Zero's helmet. She knelt down to pick it up, and cried silent tears as she held it close to her chest. Little did anyone knew, the sighting of Zero's helmet was just a sign of bad omen that will soon befall the group.
Not far from the crater, a part of Ciel's team has found the remains of the Ragnarok's very core. The members of the team that found it, didn't tell Dr. Ciel about it(they wanted to leave her alone for a while when she's still mourning), until it was too late.
It turns out that unlike Zero, Dr. Weil survived, or, at least his consciousness did, in the core, which the madman fused with to combat Zero. Weil manipulated the young man who personally found the core, the man who will soon become known as Serpent, effectively making him go Maverick. In order for Weil to keep his own revival secret, he had Serpent eliminate all the members of the expedition.
Only Dr. Ciel survived, thanks to a timely warning by one of her assistants. Ciel got away(her assistant hadn't been so lucky), taking Zero's helmet, and a portion of the Ragnarok core, in her escape. Weil decided that even if she was able to warn others of his return, no one will be able to stand up to him now.

Ciel was rescued alone in the desert by members of her "Guardians" organization. By then, she came to the realization similar to Weil's conclusion. With Zero's death, and the world at peace, who will be able to stand up against him?
The answer lies in her own hands: Zero's "remains", and a piece of Weil's core. After a careful and thorough study, Ciel realized that Weil instilled his memories into the Ragnarok core, thus making him continue living per se.
After more study, Ciel was able to produce a clone of sorts from the core. This clone fragment makes use of stored memories and data and bestows it onto any "Chosen One" who wields it. She named it a Biometal, after the confirmed fact that either human or Reploid can use it.
Ciel gave some thought on to whose memories would be installed into the relic. Only one person quickly came to her mind: Zero.
Interestingly, Ciel was able to salvage some of Zero's combat data from the helmet, and install it into the Biometal. Upon installation, the Biometal took the colors mostly associated with Zero: red, black and green.
That was several days ago. Now, in the middle of the night and alone in her room in the Guardian Base, Ciel began to contemplate whether or not what she's done was right. Zero, after centuries of tireless fighting, should have stayed the way he was: retired.
'Do I have the right to take him away from his eternal rest?' Ciel asked herself as she gazed at the Biometal on her table.
Dr. Ciel fell asleep while still working on perfecting the Biometal. After what seemed like an hour's sleep, Ciel woke up, astonished to what she's seeing before her.
Bathed in a mysterious white glow, was the form of the legendary Reploid himself. In actuality, this was just an image projected by the Biometal from Ciel's worktable. However, he looked so real that Ciel even tried to fling her arms around him.
"Ze- Zero," Ciel croaked.
As usual, Zero's face was impassive and unreadable. "Long time no see, Ciel..."
"But- But how?" Ciel asked.
"Let's just say that you downloaded more than just my combat data from my helmet." Zero nodded at the last piece of his body beside the Biometal.
"I'm sorry, Zero, I know I shouldn't have-"
"Don't say anything anymore. You are trying to do the right thing. There's nothing to be sorry about that..." Zero paused for a moment. "Weil's threat hasn't left this world. Whether or not there will be someone to stand up against him this time, no one is sure.
"But I'm sure of one thing: I will continue to fight against Weil, and I will help anyone who wishes to do the same."
"Zero..." Ciel felt like crying again. She picked up Biometal Z, and held it close to her heart, just like she did with Zero's helmet before. "Thank you..."
The "spirit" of Zero somberly watched Ciel fall asleep on her desk. He saw tears trickling down her face as she slept, and he walked over to gently wipe them with his own hands.
As the spirit disappears back into the Biometal, he softly said, "Ciel, you worked really hard to make this peaceful world possible. And I will do anything I can to protect it. Just, keep believing in me..."
END
-Sorry if a good portion of the story has no dialogue in it. But in the end I managed to produce this just the way I want it to.
-Although it pains me to say so, I absolutely believe in the canon established in ZX. Ironically, that series was the only one I haven't played yet, alongside Starforce.
