There will be other ships in the story as it progresses.
Rated M for later chapters.
Chapter 1
We meet once again
Ash awoke the next morning to the sound of Dawn with Piplup getting her hair ready for the next contest that day. They were just outside of Floraroma Town and Dawn was anxious for her next ribbion.
Ash looked over at his sleeping companion, Pikachu, and it looked as if he were having a dream. He quietly got out of bed, careful not to wake Pikachu up. Brock was still sleeping, dreamin of the Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny that would have him.
He walked over to the balcony that overlooked Floraroma Town thinking 'I wonder what May's up to...'
At Floraroma Town...
A girl was waking up in the hotel room that her mother was proud to pay for, as she was here for her first contest out here in the sinnoh region. She had already gotten into the Grand Festival in Hoenn, and grabbed first place at the other contests there. She wanted to prove her worth out here in Sinnoh.
"It's just a good thing that I didn't have to lug my little brother again, like last time."
Her little brother was busy with her dad and the gym. He had grown alot in the short time that she had won the Grand Festival, and her dad was thinking of getting him his first pokemon early.
Just then, there was a ringing from the room phone and the girl answered it.
"Hello?"
"May, darling! How are you?" It was her mother.
"I'm fine, mom. Today's the contest. Watch for me on TV!"
May heard her mother start to cry over the phone. "You're gonna be a star, I know you are." Then, she blushed. "Oh, I'm a poet and I didn't know it."
"Haha. Just watch for me, please."
"Of course, dear. I'll be rooting for you all the way." Click. She had hung up.
May did as well and sighed. There was one person she wanted to be in the stands and that was Ash. He was a very great battler, and an even greater friend. She had always wanted it to be more, but was always too scared to admit it.
"Huh. I just want Ash to be here to see me and cheer me on."
Back with Ash...
Ash returned to his sleeping bag and woke Pikachu up, elliciting a few shocks to his hand that told him 5 more minutes of sleep. "No, buddy. We need to head out. Dawn's contest is soon."
"Did someone call my name?"
A girl walked out of a tent just next to the boy's sleeping bags. It was Dawn.
"Yeah. We need to get to the contest hall before your time to register expires and you can't enter."
"WHAAAA! Piplup! We need to go!"
"Pip? Pip pip piplup!" Piplup hopped out of the tent and was ready to go within a matter of seconds. "Pip."
"We're ready to go, Ash."
"Alright. On to Floraroma Town!"
They made it in time for the registration to just be closing.
Nurse Joy scolded them. "You should learn to arrive earlier so this doesn't happen."
Just then, there was another girl shouting and it sounded familiar to Ash.
"Wait! I need to register too!"
Ash turned around to see a sight that he hadn't seen for a long while. "May?!"
She noticed Ash and ran even faster than what she was going. When she reached the counter, she held out her coordinator pass and said "I'd like to register."
"Okay, then." Nurse Joy said with a confused expression. She typed a few keys and said "Alright, you're registered."
At that, May collapsed on the ground from exaustion. Dawn held out her pass and Nurse Joy registered her as well.
Ash went to May and lifted her head. "You're always late for a contest, and now you know it's not because of me."
"Very funny." May said.
Brock walked to May. "It's good to see you again, May."
"Wait, you know her?" Dawn asked.
"Yeah. She was with us when we were in Hoenn, along with her brother. Speaking of which, where is Max?" Ash asked.
"He's back at the gym with my dad. He's learning anything he can about Pokemon by watching Gym Battles." May said, looking relieved.
"Hmm. So, you're going for the Grand Festival here, as well?"
"Yep. I'm gonna be the top coordinator from Hoenn out here in Sinnoh."
"Well, you're gonna have to beat me, the top coordinator from Sinnoh." Dawn said.
"Well, we'll see who beats who in this contest." May said.
Ash moved over to May and kissed her on the cheek. "It's good to see you again, May."
He then hugged her. Many thoughts were racing through her head. 'Does he like me? Does he have the same feelings that I have for him? Does he wanna go steady?'
Ash released the hug and smiled. "Now I've got two people to root for."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Dawn piped up with. "You're gonna be rooting for me all the way, aren't you?"
"No, Ash. Root for me!"
"No, me!"
"No, me!"
"Me!"
"Me!"
The two ladies locked eyes, with a flurry of sparks.
Ash slowly backed towards Brock, who had taken to wooing over Nurse Joy. Croagunk had stopped it just as Ash had arrived over to him.
Here's how it went.
"Oh, Nurse Joy! My heart for you is being torn in two! And the only cure is for me to go out with you on a date!"
Croagunk stepped in.
Poison Jab.
"UGH! Then again, natural medicine is the way to go."
Just as Brock started falling, Ash caught him. "It's okay, Croagunk. I've got him."
"Croa... Croa..... Croa......." With that, he hopped off.
"Thanks Ash." Brock said, still unable to move.
"Your welcome. Brock, can you help me?" Ash could not believe his own ears. He was asking the one person in the world he shouldn't be asking about girls.
"Sure. I've got nothing better to do until the poison wears off."
"Well," Ash started until...
"ASH!"
Ash was startled as the two shouted out his name at the exact same time. "Yes?"
"Which one of us is prettier?" They both said.
'Oh man. What do I do? The only way.. Wait. I have an idea.' "You're both so pretty, it's too hard to decide. You're both equal."
"THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH, MISTER! WHO'S PRETTIER?"
'Okay, that busted through the roof. What do I do? I like May more, but if I said that, Dawn would surely hit me, and if I said Dawn was better, then it would ruin my chances at being with May. Oh, what am I gonna do?'
He fell to his knees, feeling ashamed, and shouted, without him meaning to at all "I like May more! I love her!"
May was shocked at what he said. 'He does like me. Not just like, he said he loved me.' She just swayed on the spot, looking as if she might faint. Dawn, however, whacked Ash upside the head with an empty Pokeball.
"OOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!" And that last word was all that they got out of him, for he collapsed.
Later that day...
When Ash came to, he was surrounded by his friends, and they were in a hotel room.
"Hey. What time is it?" Ash asked.
"It's 7:43 PM." Dawn said, checking her Poketch.
"WHA...! I missed your contests!" Ash exclaimed.
"Actually, you didn't miss mine." May said. "I opted out."
"Wha.. May?" Ash asked. "Then who won?"
"Well, it was either me, or Zoey. And her Glameow had evolved into a Purugly. It was just too strong. In the end, I lost." Dawn said, looking crestfallen.
"Ambi. Ambipom." Dawn's Ambipom came over and put her two tail palms on her shoulder to comfort her.
"You're right, Ambipom. I'll just work harder for the next contest! And I'll be even stronger than before! And next time, I won't get beaten by that ugly puss bag." She was referring to Purugly. She then yawned. "Well, it's getting late. I'm gonna turn in. G'night, Ash."
"G'night Dawn. G'night, guys." He then rolled over in his bed, letting sleep take him.
The door closed, not having all of the occupants leaving. May sat still, not wanting to leave Ash alone anymore. She sat there in the chair.
What am I gonna do? I want to be with Ash, but what about Dawn? What'll she do?
Wait. Remember he said he loved you? Dawn was there to hear that. Maybe she backed off now, hearing that.
Maybe. But what about Ash? Maybe he was just caught in the heat of the moment. What if he doesn't really like me that way?
Well, why don't you go ask him? There's no sense in pondering if you can just simply ask him.
To test this out, May got onto Ash's bed, which jostled around, waking Ash.
"Huh? Wha? May? What're you doing here still?" He said, sounding kinda groggy.
"Well, You remember earlier today, when you said that you loved me? Did you mean it?"
Ash was trying to wake up more. The last time he had talked without being fully awake, he was hit upside the head with a frying pan. As soon as he wa awake, he got up and asked "What do you mean?" being as polite as he could. He didn't really get her question.
"I mean, what you said earlier. Do you really love me?" May asked, she had a somber look on her face, as if she was preparing for bad news.
Ash was taken aback from the question. Even more so for her face from asking. He then made up his mind to tell her straight up. He hugged her. "Yes, May. I love you." He then kissed her on the cheek again.
May wasn't contempt with just a cheek kiss. She wanted more. "If you really love me, a simple peck on the cheek isn't very convincing."
"Huh?" Ash said, stumped. "Then what'll prove that I love you?"
And suddeinly, without warning, May grabbed Ash's head and brought him into a kiss. On the lips.
Ash's feelings were that of surprise, but was soon gone and he returned the kiss. He held her head as she did his. He had never done this before, and he didn't want to screw this up. It seemed to him that May had more experience in this than he had.
To say the truth, May had about as much experience as Ash. Maybe a little more, seeing as she watched Soap Operas with her mother before she started Pokemon Training.
May released the kiss with a sigh. "Well, that was different than the Soap Operas made it to believe."
"What? You've never kissed someone before?" Ash asked.
"No, and don't sound like that. I know you haven't kissed anyone like that before, either."
Ash just did a sweat drop. "Well, you kinda got me there."
May smiled. "Well, either way, it was pretty good for our first time."
"Yeah."
And with that, Ash collapsed on the bed in sleep. May grabbed the blanket and covered Ash up. "G'night, Ash." She pecked him on the cheek. She then left the room.
