-This contains spoilers for Megaman Zero 4, like anyone cares.
Premonition
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Megaman Zero.
"No... This isn't over yet!" Weil emerged, barely in one piece, from the very hole on the floor that was created from the explosion of his armor.
"Weil!" Zero shouted, getting desperate.
Weil laughed maniacally. "I told you... I can't die! Nobody can stop Ragnarok now!"
A loud rumbling could be heard underneath Zero's feet. The screen started to show static, but that doesn't stop Ciel from seeing Zero's surroundings quickly turn into wreckage because of the entry to Earth's atmosphere.
"Z-Zero, there's no time!" Ciel shouted to the screen worriedly. "Get back here!"
"No," Zero responded, sounding calm even through the situation he's in. "There is a way. If I destroy Weil's core, the explosion will take Ragnarok out with it. If Ragnarok is blown apart, then it no longer poses a threat!"
"But, what about you?" Ciel asked.
Zero's words prompted more mad laughter. "Are you even capable of it?" Weil taunted. "The Reploid hero... Protecting justice and humanity! I am one of those humans you have sworn to protect! Do you have it in you to defeat me?"
Just then, two electric wires from Ragnarok plugged themselves to the back of Weil's armor. More and more wires appear and plug onto Weil, with the scientist's armor growing exponentially with each wire. A flash of light, and Weil's armor has now become a huge, mechanical monstrosity, with his human body sticking out of the center.
"I never cared about justice, and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero... I have always only fought for the people I believe in. If an enemy appears in front of me, I won't hesitate, I will destroy it!"
"Zero!" Ciel cried. "Zero!" she repeated, thinking he might not have heard her.
"Ciel... Believe in me!"
"Zerooo!"
---
Ciel woke up, a combination of tears and sweat trickling down her face. She sat up on her bed, and a quick look around reminded her that she was in the mobile unit of her group of freedom fighting Resistance.
'What was that horrible dream?' she thought, a hand to her chest, breathing heavily. Ciel got off her bed, which is more of a bunker, and straightened her hair. She looked at the clock on the bedside table. It read 2:36 AM.
The young scientist sighed, as she sat back down on her bed. "Zero, I hope it was not-" Ciel's voice trailed off when she heard a voice from the bed next to her.
"Sis, why are you awake?"
"Sorry, Alouette," Ciel apologised. "Go back to sleep, I will, too." With these words the little girl known as Alouette did go back to sleep, but Ciel didn't. Her mind is still troubled about that dream she just had.
Instead, Ciel stepped out of the trailer. The group may be out in the desert, but the air is a cool breeze. Ciel walked to the very back car of the trailer, to Cerveau's laboratory, right next to the briefing room she frequents. Before Ciel could head inside the lab, though, she stopped when she heard voices, belonging to Zero and Cerveau.
"Hm, your systems are doing just fine, Zero. There's no need to worry," the latter said after examining Zero's body, who was just resting in a capsule for the time being.
"Right, Cerveau. Sorry I had to disturb your sleep at this time of night."
"Well, I couldn't say no to a favor for someone who have done so much for the Resistance. You may be the Legendary Reploid, but still you shouldn't overdo it, okay? Everyone here is still concerned for you, especially miss Ciel."
"I know, I know," Zero said quietly.
"Um, excuse me," Ciel spoke up, finally entering the lab. Both Zero and Cerveau were mildly surprised to find her there. "Cerveau, can I speak to Zero? Alone?"
Cerveau looked from Ciel to Zero, then back again. "Of course, Miss Ciel. Besides," he added, faking a yawn, "I think it's time for me to go to sleep anyway." He closed the door on his way out, leaving the two by themselves.
Zero straightened himself from his lying position, his eyes on the girl. "Something you wanted to talk to me about, Ciel?"
"Yes." Slowly, Ciel made her way across the room, then taking a seat next to Zero. "About Weil..."
"We'll try to find him before he causes any more trouble, Ciel," Zero assured her. "Then we'll make him pay for his crimes. I swear to that."
The two remained silent for a while. Ciel felt uneasy about trying to tell Zero about her dream, but at the same time also felt that he's the person to talk to this about in the first place. "Zero, I overheard what Cerveau said to you earlier. He's right. You have done so much for the Resistance, and to Reploids and humans all in all."
"I'm only doing what I believe is right, Ciel." These words quickly flashed a portion of the dream into Ciel's mind. Zero, however, didn't notice Ciel's change of facial expression.
"Zero, I-" Ciel began, but immediately cut herself off. "Zero, you- All these missions that you go on... They get dangerous by the minute, and, well-" She blushed lightly. "I'm really getting worried for you..."
Zero said nothing, and instead leaned back to a lying position again. "I know you are, Ciel, but you said it yourself before. I am doing this for Reploids and humans alike. And-"
"But still-" Ciel interrupted, so suddenly that Zero was startled. "But still," she repeated, although her voice was a little lower, "you're a valuable member of the Resistance, not as a soldier, but as a part of an adoptive family we're all in. And, if something happens to you, I don't know how to deal with it, Zero..."
This time Zero didn't really know how to answer. Ciel, however, didn't give him a chance. "Zero, promise me... That you won't put yourself in any more danger... Please..."
Zero sat back up again. "Missions for the Resistance will always be full of danger, Ciel, remember that. But," he added, and Ciel suddenly felt Zero's hand hold hers, "I promise, I will always make it back to you. I swear..."
"Zero," Ciel said softly, resting her head on his shoulders. "Thank you..."
END of this story, but obviously not theirs, yet...
-I felt a little weird writing the last part, knowing that Zero would be breaking that promise in the end. Poor Ciel... Anyways, kindly leave reviews and thank you.
