This, I gotta say, is one of the craziest back-and-forth ships in anime in general. If you've seen any episode, you know what I mean. Anyways, discuss about it.

That would be an understatement. Having the girl be in complete control of a timespace is one unique choice of a girlfriend. At least Kyon is guaranteed to go with Haruhi if she reshapes everything.
And considering the timespace issue as well as the fact of how hyper that girl is, its no surprise that her name would be first on the shipping tag.

This pairing made me a little sad, because Kyon cared so much for Mikuru.

True, KyonxMikuru is pretty popular still. Heck, I even like it. But, this is the ship that the writers are sticking to the canon. However, that ship does have its moments, and it also ensues in a lot of humor as well.

Its been so long since I've seen the series that I forgot about the other characters. And now that I think about it, I actually liked the idea of Kyon with Mikuru more than Haruhi. But Kyon was almost somewhat forced into being with Haruhi, even if he would have chosen her in the end over the others. It was either let that timespace be torn apart and start anew, or stay more with Haruhi than anyone and yet keep all of his other friends and his current life.
