I often get into debates with my friend. I say he would have my friend says he would have done worse. What do you guys think?

Of course he would be better, those pokemon are hardened veterans.
Though I don't understand why pikachu seems to be always weak in the beginning of each region.

I suspect that is because this is a new pokemon Pikachu never encountered before. He feeds of off ash as well and these new pokemon are unfamiliar. So both have to get a feel for them before they can be able to go 100%. Pikachu seems weak because he is holding back scouting out a pokemon he never battled before for his weaknesses and learning his strengths. One of the few ways that you can see he is the most battle hardened of Ash's pokemon. He is the calmest and has the most experienced. I could be just over reading that but think about it in the mid area he is back in form which would be the same for Ash. This shows that he has to get a feel for the new reigon along with Ash. They are true oartnerts in every sense of the term.

I agree that he would have done better with using his veterans but he shouldn't have kept the entire team with him. Maybe only taking a couple besides Pikachu. We can't forget that partially because of him making a while new team he gained a few good ones, namely Sceptile and Swellow. If he would have brought his entire team then he would have had no reason to build up the rest of them.

I'm not saying like bring a whole team but bring a few of his veterans like aside from Pikachu like come with this line up: Pikachu Charizard Either Snorlax or Totodile Leve three spaces open

True, but bringing either Charizard or Snorlax had their problems. Totodile or Cyndaquil would probably have been better choices. They both have room to grow and both are extremely experienced in battling.

True. about Totodile or Cyndaquilr. I would have like to see Charizard because he is one of my favorites. Anyway it is still pretty obvious to most that he would have done better.

I don't really see much of a good argument against it. It seems fairly obvious that he would do better.

Hmm, I get it now. Thanks, Wolf. Pikachu is just "testing the water" in the new region; which might explain his poor performance.

Yep. He and Ash although they don't show it learned one thing from Johto. It is best to hang back and get a feel for the trainers and the pokemon of that region.

Well, I definitely think he should've brought another of his Pokemon, mainly Charizard, Pidgeot (if available), Haunter (if available), Butterfree (if he's available and not dead), Primeape (if available), or Noctowl. I can see them getting pretty handy.

If Butterfree wasn't dead? Where did that idea come from?

According to some people, once a Butterfree mates, it dies soon after. Yes, I know it's tragic, but that's what I hear.

That's what happens in real life, but not necessarily so in pokemon.
I think you mean that if butterfree doesn't mate during the first mating season, it will never be able to mate forever. Which is why Ash released his butterfree.

Ya the only time that they mention how long a pokemon lives is with Ninetails. But you never know, death isn't a grand topic in these animes.
