This episode (77) was basically a large appeal round. First up was May with Wartortle. It had brief cameos of Max, Norman and Caroline watching May on TV, then it cut over to Ecruteak City in Johto, where Drew and Solidad were sitting to watch, Harley was watching from a near a doorway.
May impresses the judges with a very good appeal using Wartortle's Aqua Tail.
Jessalina used her Wobbuffet in her appeal but failed to show it off very well. Charging at it whilst it was using counter, she demonstrated remarkable acrobatics, but failed to show off Wobbuffet's capabilities in the appeal.
Zoey used her newly acquired Finneon. It demonstrated some very powerful moves including Aqua Ring and Silver Wind.
Ash was next with Buizel and demonstrated both amazing power combined with amazing technique, using Aqua Jet at high speeds, a powerful Sonic Boom as a launcher and then finishing off with a very powerful Water Gun. Paul is seen watching Ash perform in the contest on a huge TV screen on the street, only for him to dismiss Ash's activities and walk away.
With each appeal, Dawn gets more and more nervous, worrying about her hair and appearance, afraid to go out because of her last two experiences.
Piplup gets annoyed at her hesitation and Bubble Beams her in the face. She is encouraged by May, Brock and Zoey to do her best. She high fives Ash on the way out and she goes through with her performance.
She tells the others she is going to use Ambipom again, so that the two of them can redeem themselves from their loss at the last contest.
Ambipom shows off itself very well, using moves like Double Hit, Swift attack on the water and using a double Focus Punch to create a shockwave that causes the water to fire up into the air for a dazzling effect. Wallace is very impressed and Dawn feels more confident than she was beforehand.
Ash, Zoey, May and Dawn all pass the appeal round. Jessie on the other hand, shatters to pieces leaving James, Mime Jr. and Meowth sighing.
Waiting for the second half of the 1 hour special to be uploaded.
Not much Advanceshipping Hints in this episode, but it was good to see May and Ash looking very sharp. Dawn and May are getting a lot closer and are really starting to look more like very close friends.
Note: Wallace apparently is according to the story a former Gym Leader and Hoenn Champion. I wonder who is the current champ? And there also appears to be like, millions of Wallace fangirls at the contest. lol
NOTE: Who wrote this on Bulbapedia? It's the most confusing thing I've ever read.
From May's Venusaur's Page:
"Like Ash has Sceptile, a starter Pokémon from the region that co-starred in Generation III with his home region that evolved to its final form while in his care, May's Venusaur is from her own region's Generation III co-star that she evolved to its final form."
Uhhh....what?
It'd be so much easier to say, 'At the present time, May currently owns a fully evolved Gen III Fire Type Starter (Blaziken) and a fully evolved Gen I Grass Type Starter (Venusaur). Mirroring Ash who owns a fully evolved Gen I Fire Type Starter (Charizard) and a fully evolved Gen III Grass Type Starter (Sceptile).
Or something to that effect.
