*blinks* That still doesn't prove it's advanceshippy >> I mean, what if she thought she would never see him again? That could have been the reason she came up and traveled to see him. Some people are really close to their friends. Her visiting him really doesn't prove to be shippy in anyway. She visited, and that's it...
Okay, let's relate this to Misty again for one moment, her coming to Pallet after Hoenn to visit Ash, does that make her visit pokeshippy? No. Nor does May coming to Pallet prove to be advanceshippy.
Again, I think you're reading way too much in to this. There's nothing advanceshippy about her visiting Ash. >>;;

There's a difference between Misty's visit and May's visit. Ash has not seen Misty in a long time, but May has been with Ash throughout Hoenn.
There no reason for May to visit. Ash and May have barely been seperated between the end of the Hoenn and the very beginning of Battle Frontier.
It would be paranoid for May to think that she will never see Ash again. If she is so paranoid about not seeing Ash again, then that would mean that May is "worried" about Ash as more than a friend.

Well, I don't think that May coming to visit in the first place is shippy, but like I said, her eagerness to want to travel along with Ash, and likewise, his eagerness to have her travelling with him again kinda is. It's cute anyway. Because ya know, if May visiting is shippy, then so is Misty visiting... Hehe, there actually was a good amount of shipping in that episode, it just so happened to be Orangeshippyness. But yea, I think this hint has been just about debated as it can be (imo). Are there any other hints for us to debate? If not, I guess this argument can continue on then, lol.

Again, I still don't see how that can be proven to be advanceshippy, she visited him, big deal. I think you guys are looking in to this way too much, her visiting Ash, early or not, doesn't mean she's in love with him or likes him any more than a friend. Sure she had the chance to go and visit him later if she wanted to just like Misty, but that doesn't mean just because she chose to visit him now it's an advanceshippy hint.
In fact, I've never even heard of anyone thinking it was a hint before now >> Just like people don't think Misty visiting isn't a hint for pokeshipping

To simplify everything; the reason that many consider this a hint is that May wanted to continue following Ash on his journey even if it meant not necessarily participating in contests at the time. She didn't know that there would be contests in Kanto before she left for Pallet so there is the assumption that she was about to put her dream of becoming a top coordinator on hold just to be able to travel with Ash for a while longer. So its not just the visit itself that institutes the hint its the implications and possibilities that she could have missed by following Ash that flesh this one out
That is the basis behind why many consider this event a hint. Obviously everyone has their own views on what is considered a hint and what isn't so there are going to be differences in their opinions.

But don't you remember how surprised she was when he told her about all of that stuff in Kanto? I don't think it was ever her intention to travel with him, instead she came out to visit him.
And if May really was planning on travelling with Ash without caring about her contests, then wouldn't she have gone to Sinnoh with him instead of going to Johto?
I know people consider different things as hints, but the purpose of this debate is to rule somethings as AS hints and others as not. If we all just said "Well, okay, because this is a hint to so-and-so we'll leave it that way." this wouldn't be a debate anymore, would it? :/

True, true.
But a reason that she didn't follow Ash to Sinnoh was because Drew told her that Harley and Solidad both went to Johto while she received no such information after Hoenn. After she completed in the Hoenn Grand Festival she had no clue what happened to Drew and Harley. Besides, after the loss to Solidad any chance of following her to beat her wouldn't be one that May would turn down.
As for her surprise on the information and the discussion that she was only there to visit vs. travel with him its hard to say. As far as I remember nothing was said on the subject before the contests were brought up so there is no evidence to prove or disprove either side of it. But as for the visit why would she travel that far to visit Ash after she just saw him about a week or two ago? Misty had a reason due in part to the length that they last saw each other, but May's is no where near as good. Even going by your thinking that could also prove to be a slight hint in that she wanted to travel that far just to see Ash again so soon after they parted. The only real question to that would be how long she would have planned on staying in Pallet with Ash.

She didn't expect contests to be in Kanto. May knows that she must travel alone if she is to show Ash that she can stand on her own two feet, so to speak. She even said it herself that she wants to go to Johto alone because she wants to become stronger and beat her rivals without help. May wants to impress Ash by showing that she can travel alone and compete in contests without help.

oh, LuciferIX, aren't you from ff.net? Sorry for the randomness, but I remember your username from somewhere. Um, anyway, back to business...
Okay so, I went back and I watched the episode to see what happened. And I realized something: Ash telling May about Kanto without her knowing about the contests isn't true. This is what happened in the episode:
So, in the tea scene, Ash begins to tell May about Battle Frontier as he heard it from Scott when Delia says: Ash, May's already told me she wants to compete in the contests in the Kanto region.
And then Ash goes: So May, if that's what you're going to do, do you wanna travel with us?
It seems that May was already planning on traveling through Kanto, with or without Ash. And it also seems that in order to get to Kanto, you have to pass through Pallet, therefore, on her way through May visits Ash one last time before heading out on her own journey. Of course, she doesn't travel alone because Ash asked her if she wanted to travel with him.
Seems like this hint is ruled out :/
But did she mention anything like that? Everything she does doesn't have to be directly linked to Ash, what if she wants to become stronger for her own sake without having to impress anyone? She could do that.

Why are we talking about the hint from Mays POV? I thought this hint was about Delia? It's like fighting for something that wasn't really there. But heck, I'll defend it anyway It's a Contest. Isn't that ALL they do. Not really. Rather Vermillion. (place with the 3rd gym). Pallet hasn't been shown as all that much of a sea-port. But I stay by the shot of the so close to kissing. Not nessesarily a hint but S---- But a bit of randomness, remember how the Battle frontier was a big seceret. Then, Ash tells the whole world. It's like the writers setting up something great. Then blowing it up.

Why are we talking about the hint from Mays POV? I thought this hint was about Delia? lol, we moved on from that. Wasn't a hint. It's a Contest. Isn't that ALL they do. You took what I said out of context. I didn't mean the actual contest themselves, sure, she's going out there to impress the judges. But I find it hard to believe that May would go to Johto to impress Ash. >> She has her own life, she doesn't have to go out and do everything to link back to him. Yeah, but why not make May go through Pallet? It is technically, the beginning point of Kanto. Actually, you know what? Never mind, I'm not going to debate this point anymore. The writers put May in Pallet for whatever reason they did (though it isn't considered a hint in the opnion of the rest of the Pokemon fandom,) and it doesn't even make sense to debate something that no one is even sure of. Last I checked a hint was something that everyone accepted, not just a few.

Last I checked a hint was something that everyone accepted, not just a few. Well actually, there is no universally accepted hint for any ship, with the exception of maybe canon ships, where the couple is already married (like Norman and Caroline). Granted, yes, usually for something to be considered a hint, more than just a select few have to agree to it, but that said, as Matt pointed out before, everyone is going to have different points of view in what they consider to be a hint or not. Like me, as I said, I don't think that Delia blushing is a hint. I'm sure that there are some that do though. *shrugs* What I'm saying is, there's no way that anyone will ever be able to get everyone to agree on just one thing, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. In the end it truly all comes down to difference of opinion, and that's just the way it is. That said, I do agree that May is travelling by herself not to impress anyone, but to prove to herself that she has it in her to make it on her own.

Though she thought that she could not travel with Ash again, when she was given an opportunity to do so, she was more than happy to take it. A reminder of the first Hoenn episode. Traveling with Ash maybe a secondary goal because whatever Ash planned may not fit in with her plans, but when the opportunity arises, she would love to take it.

I can't remember May ever saying anything along the lines of that or showing anything that could mean that. I don't believe that could be proven since we don't know what goes on in May's head.

You said it yourself that May thought that she would not be able to travel with Ash when she made her plans for Kanto.
But, given the opportunity to do so, she'll be more than happy to take it, as shown in the quote. So traveling with Ash became a secondary goal.
And that opportunity came when Ash asked May if she wants to travel with him, and her response is clear.
Thus, traveling with Ash became another motive for May to go.
